TRADED: Brian Robinson to 49ers for 2026 6th

I still want to see better than McNichols and Rodriguez as the top backup options.

I think we are likewise thin with Deiter and Chris Paul inside. We are a little too comfortable with guys who are familiar with system but are not strong performers when they have to come in and play.

BRob himself is not a strong performer so what exactly are we doing here, valuing the fact that he has a level of name value? He’s not a guy we’ll miss, doesn’t want to be here bc we won’t let him be a mediocre bellcow, and doesn’t fit our scheme

Robinson isn’t better than Rodriquez and doesn’t play teams and is an active detriment to what we want to do on offense. Seems like an easy call even if we don’t have the perfect replacement yet

For me as a fan, it’s just exciting to have people in charge who want to move on from players that I can easily see with my own eyes are mediocre. Dotson and many others and, to a lesser extent, Jon Allen. It’s a relief. They aren’t always nailing the attempts to replace them right away, but the very fact that “hey we know that guy and he’s okay” isn’t enough anymore is in itself energizing.

That’s why there’s overall enthusiasm to move on from a player like BRob who was a starter last year even without a stud to replace him, imo.

hit or miss guy, but does hit:

This is exactly the type of team that I could see convincing themselves that BRob gives them an element they’re lacking (Achane is hurt but I mean power to go with him, because Wright stinks) when in reality they already have Ollie Gordon who will probably be better. But teams like more certainty when they’re desperate

All of this trade speculation and energy over getting a #6 or #7 round pick for a guy that started last season here?

I guess they really want him off the roster and or want to save that $3M because I don’t think McNichols or Rodriguez is at Robinson’s level if the team suffers injuries to Merritt or Ekeler.

I agree in the sense that our running back situation does not look great, but I disagree that BRob is any better than the others.

CRod, McNichols, and BRob are all JAGs. Ekeler is a great player but aging. JCM is unproven but has potential. And you can only keep three or four of them, so at least one has to go.

If you look at last season, CRod averaged 4.9 ypc, Ekeler averaged 4.8, McNichols averaged 4.7, but BRob only averaged 4.3. Add to that BRob’s contract (in his last season) and limited upside (same pedestrian production over three seasons), and you can see why we’re trying to trade him and keep the others.

This is probably the sort of deal we’re looking at, lots of them going down across the league right now:

I'd call it a victory if they can even get a 7th rounder for him.

i love all the media talk about how he's a really good power back but this team simply wants more explosion. IMO he's not a really good power back -- he's a pedestrian power back at best and below average on every other front except pass catching where he's just OK.

But he looks the part as to being a power back. And he has some moments as a power back. So I hope other teams buy that narrative.

I've mentioned some culture things I've heard and digested about Brian that I don't love. Nothing about him being a bad guy -- it's just delusional-arrogance theme things. To that point, Standig mentioned in a recent podcast he's heard some things about Brian that he didn't want to share at that time. Who knows what these things are but the way he said it coupled with just random things you could pick up about Brian -- I think there a good chance there is a culture part of them wanting to move on from him.

BRob was 28th in broken tackles with 10
Ranked behind guys who had a lot more carries.

As far as broken tackles Robinson had 10.
Rodriguez had 1.

So, Rodriguez had one broken tacle per 35 attempts.
Robinson had one broken takle per 18.

I wouldn't sleep on Demetric Felton.

I also don't think B-Rob's playing style is suited for the offense. He may be a 'better' RB, but we would be asking him to be a square peg in a round hole. Did you see the cut-back Rodriguez made to break free? B-Rob isn't doing that. A TON of gap movement and basically a zone choice type run scheme. There will be a hole, its up to you to be able to change direction and get to it.

Not that PFF is the be all and end all but its another data point

A player swap would probably be a better trade than a trade for draft picks.

On some team, there's a sixth WR, backup LB or 3rd TE who might be better than what we have or someone we might have an interest in developing.
