This Week, We're Rooting For...

Smack the Giants around handle our beeswax at home and let's go

I did not, nor would I ever root for Dallass to win, but it's nice to go into the final game of the season knowing if we win, we're in.

Upon further review none of you guys better be rooting for the GB Detroit game to end in a tie. 3 way tie and we lose out

Bear with me here..I may lose the respect of a couple people but I *DO* want Detroit to lose tonight. Now, in my mind, I *AM* not rooting for Dallas. I'm not watching the game. I just want to see the score with Detroit being on the losing side. And please believe me, I hate Dallas as much as the next guy...but my heart just could not take playing the Giants, and assuming we win, having to wait until the Sunday night game to as-yet determine our chances.

Of course I want to make the playoffs. I've read.. and I understand those who say "we don't deserve it the way our defense plays", etc etc etc.

The comment I made in chat Saturday still goes. Our offense DOES deserve it. I'll echo Knight's comment that there's really not too many teams who really want to We are what... 3rd ranked in the NFL on offense? There's really not many teams who really want to play this offense.

That being said could our defense then go out in the playoffs and totally embarrass us? Absolutely. But could they POSSIBLY step up and play a game close? Yes (and they have). I'm not claiming that we're a better defense than any other team in the playoffs... but the old adage "that's why they play the game" ....

Plus I'm selfish... and before you start feeling bad for me for what I'm about to say... PLEASE don't... but suffice it to say that 2015 ended up terribly for me (other than the Redskins) with my dental issues; I wanted football season to go on forever to take my mind off reality. And this year.. with my arm surgery and subsequent permanent nerve damage, once again, I just want to escape and engulf myself in football -- Redskins football -- to get my mind off my problems. Call me immature, all me having no common sense -- but football, specifically Redskins football, has always played a very important part in many important relationships in my life -- my family (specifically my dad), my husband, .... that I can easily bring those good memories to the forefront during Redskin games and actually put a smile on my face (win or lose). Call me emotional, sensitive, mushy, silly, whatever... but it's the truth. So the longer the Redskins play into the season, the happier I am. And the more distracted I am away from my real problems which again, may make me seem irresponsible but hey... I'm 63 and I've earned the right to be irresponsible for 3-4 hours once a week or so <grin>.

So...for those whose respect I've lost because I want Detroit to lose tonight, I truly apologize. I still respect you a whole lot regardless and you're certainly entitled to your opinion (even if it is wrong ::grin:::... I love ya anyway!!!)... I'm not sitting here rooting for that team with a star on its helmet... just occasionally looking at the score.

Now.. won't it be nice, after we (hopefully) beat the Giants on Sunday to be able to relax and ENJOY the evening? Think of it as starting our 2017 season on January 1, 2017... We control our own destiny from day 1 :)

Now, don't have too much of a hangover come 4:25 on Sunday... and hopefully I'll see a lot of you in chat while we cheer our team into the playoffs.

HTTR!!!!!!

Edited to add: Interesting that the local news here in Wheeling, WV started out with this very issue.. the Cowboys-Redskins rivalry and what tonights game and the Detroit loss meant and how it was very uncomfortable for Redskins fans... I just thought it was ironic that this little town in Pittsburgh territory would lead off talking about the Redskins-Cowboys rivalry. <grin>

No one is gonna lose respect for you. At the end of the day and the beginning we are all redskins fans. We do what we think is best for the redskins to make the playoffs. While I would be disappointed if we didn't this team is making huge strides and to be in the playoff conversation 2 years in a row for us is great. If we make the playoffs anything can happen. I'll be praying for your arm to get better.

SO, who do we have to root for this week. :)

Frankly I don't care how we get in the playoffs, by hook or crook if necessary.

The NFL is responsible for the entire scenario which is play all 16 games of the regular season and see who's left standing at the end to make the playoffs.

Our first SB win was based on a strike shortened season with a crazy playoff format.....remember?

If we win our last game and that dreaded tie thing doesn't come to fruition then we're in. Game on.

We all want to see progress, this is what it looks like folks.

It ain't always pretty and we're injured some but this team damn scrappy and should still give fits to anyone we face from here on out.

EFF MARA!

So then, by virtue of our performance this season, the Washington Redskins enter the final week of the regular season, not in complete control of their own destiny, but in damn good shape.

We need a win, and a winner in Detroit.

It's that simple.

Hey this is our playoff game coming up. Sort of feels like one now.

Great thoughts Docsandy. I'm with you all the way, this year was my worst ever, personally speaking health-wise, so I could use a little Redskins love my own self. I'm your age too and never seen so many doctors now who have no answers. But I've always got my Redskins. ;-)

Gotcha micks113.... totally understand. In my mind, this IS the first playoff game for us.....after all, starting this weekend... we win, we play again... ..... And after that awful Monday night game, I'm totally surprised we are sitting here saying "we win, we're in"....

Win and we're in.

OK

Well, this is about the third time the Football gods have tried to give us a shot at the playoffs and the previous two, we've spit the bit.

Third times a charm ? Boy, I sure hope so.

While a tie in the GB/Lion game is unlikely, it's not impossible. If they make it to overtime, they both know they're in. Might change the way they play it. Who knows.
But I remember, years ago, when all we needed was for the Cardinals to not give up 40+ points, or something like that, to Chicago. They went on to laying down and giving up the points, and we were eliminated from the postseason.

So, it's win, and we're most likely in.

Not, win and we're in.

Heh, some of the pundits are 'thanking' Dallas for letting us in.

Just love the media sometimes, any scenario they put together in their minds must be fact.

Dallas didn't want to play Romo to prevent a media circus .... the ol' QB controversy.

Dallas (according to the media) should not have risked Dak, Elliot, Dez and the other key starters for fear of injury in a meaningless game but in playing the game for real, they left open the possibility of facing either of the Skins and Giants. Giants beat them twice and the Skins played them close.... why would Dallas want that?

Soooo stupid those Cowboys are.

Now they're saying that the Giants will 'let them in' by not playing their best guys for the same reasons and there is no 'hidden' agenda involving the QB,

Plus...... the Pack and Lions will now play for the tie assuring that they both make the playoffs, it's the only thing that makes sense.

Must be fact. :scholar:

I can't see GB and Detroit colluding to end in a tie - because it would be clear to all that they had colluded to end in a tie in order to game the system in a dishonest way. The league would absolutely hammer them if it even looked like that's what had happened. The media firestorm and PR hit alone would make it almost impossible to pull off.

I agree Boone.

My concern is if it happens to go into overtime, both/either team could go into a "not to lose" mode.

Bear with me here..I may lose the respect of a couple people but I *DO* want Detroit to lose tonight. Now, in my mind, I *AM* not rooting for Dallas.

Moral equivalency.

If they make it to overtime, they both know they're in.

Just simply by making it to overtime, doesn't mean they're in.
There could still be an outright winner from overtime, and the other team is out of the playoffs.

And if you're suggesting they go into collusion to form a tie, I doubt they do that, because the winner of the game still gets the benefit of a division title, a home game, and a higher seed. So there is still clear incentive. And mathemetically, it's highly unlikely they even get to overtime.
Bottom line is, teams play to win. Dallas could have easily laid an egg last night. They had every reason to. But they played like it was the Super Bowl. Even at the end, ahead 42-21, with every reason to take Dak out of the game, they kept their star in there.

There's no way GB and Det make a conspired attempt to tie a game.
And even if they did, it's almost impossible to intentionally tie a game, after 4 quarters.
It's just a weak-minded mentality that I don't believe these players and coaches have.
