#TheMovement

Different times Al. There's no comparison to the environment Riggo operated in and the one RG3 walks around in every day. That's not RG3's fault, but it's the truth. I'm betting Riggins would be viewed as a pariah, a player to steer away from, if he were playing in today's environment.

Again, I don't know many fans who think RG3 is a bad guy, a selfish guy, or a bad leader. I do think there are more than a few like me, who are concerned that well-intentioned or not, his need to constantly put himself and his views out there (and I mean, thrusting himself into the spotlight nearly constantly) is going to eventually undo all the good things he brings to the table.

Community service? Honestly - I could care less about his community service. He's not my pastor, my social worker, or my hero. I want him to be a Hall of Fame NFL quarterback. And the only reason I care about his penchant for the spotlight is because I think it has the potential to backfire and become a distraction for his team.

I don't get why it's upsetting to anyone to say 'Man - RG3 talks a lot - I wish he'd let his play do the talking'. Or 'RG3 is constantly in the news' and wonder if that could be a problem? That's not gutting the man, it's not being a disloyal fan, it's just concern. And if less than 6 months after seeing the entire Redskins organization overhauled almost exclusively due to drama and a media feeding frenzy, concern is 'contrived' - I guess I just don't get that perspective.

Boone....but that's not what's being said. they're saying about their QB that he is "an attention whore". slightly different perspective on matters if you ask me.

- he has let his play do the talking. in 2012 he was the most exciting (and productive0 player this franchise has seen in 20 or more years!!!

- what I don't get is the concern you speak to. I have produced a long list of what he isn't doing. Mike has noted all the good things he is doing.

You know what this strikes me as? In a different way....the same thing was said about Arrington. Arrington understood the business aspects of the football entertainment industry and tried to capitalize very quickly on it. RGIII is doing the same thing....even before he was drafted.

The nub of the matter? Aside from doing it BECAUSE HE CAN I think RG is putting into play his business plan. I don't fault him for that.

Since he's been here...aside from his arrested development last season...the only thing that has tweaked my sensibilities was his rush to play too soon. that was not in his or the team's best interest. hopefully the 3 year graduate, 3.6 GPA student, is smart enough to learn from his mistakes.

not picking fights with anyone. I truly don't get it. It's possible old school thoughts are being applied to new school players.

as for community service. part of the measure of the man. many other Skins doing it as well. making a difference and all that stuff.

welllllll....we've exhausted this topic!!!!

here's a positive: I'm happy "hash tag RGIII" is about twitter and not other things!!!

You mean like getting sexts during his wedding?

I can think of more than a few that rival or trump anything Griffin does in terms of self promotion. Peyton Manning would be numero uno. Lot's of guys do it, the amount of exposure they get as a result is dictated by media and their ratings. That's it, other than that if he was as egocentric as you say Boone then his teammates would (I think) be giving off clues to that. They don't and with few exceptions (like talking about his leadership experience and need to learn) have nothing negative to say about the kid. Quite the opposite. He's an extrovert born and raised with this stuff that we use as tools but have not had incorporated into our being. My siblings and kids are already that way, it's just a different perspective altogether. If you walk a mile so to speak you see some hints that he's just an extrovert who is proud of himself and his team and his family and commmunicates that in a way that we find unnatural and more self gratifying than it probably is. Look Twitter in and of itself is an amazingly narcissistic tool. It's why I don't feel comfortable using it and never will, who gives a flying $#%! what I have to say about anything? Obviously a lot of people do care what Griff has to say...nature of the beast my man.

Nice post CT, that puts the perspective of a lot of you guys in terms I can understand. I see what you all are saying a little more clearly now. And I think lots of folks would care what you have to say :)

I am attacking him. The kid needs to shut up and play. He won the division as a rookie...great. He ended that season more concerned with playing the game when he was not capable than seeing a healthy, capable back up come in and protect the lead he got before he became incapable of producing.

He went into the off-season thinking he could be Adrian Peterson...he was a far cry from that. In fact, his 2nd season in the NFL was an abysmal failure.

New coach? New scheme? Don't judge yet?

:bsflag:

I have a 4 year sample size now. This kid is all glitz and glamor. Sure he's uber talented, athletic, but he's a head case...have you followed him in social media?

We'll see, but here we are going in the midst of the 3rd off-season with him as our QB and I am still just as sick to my stomach about what we gave up for a kid who has a lot to prove.

Unfortunately, all of that falls right in line with the Dan Snyder Redskins era :(

I'm just hoping Griffin is smart enough and talented enough that he overcomes the negatives.

no, not sarcasm.

i think it's hilarious you think RG3 'respects his coaches.'

we have the entire post-2012 off season and lead up to the 2013 season that shows he doesn't respect his coaches, and definitely puts his own motives and agendas above the team's.

Thanks Boone. I could be totally wrong and you could be spot on but I think our generation's level of discomfort is reflective of the era we were raised in. To these kids it's just not the big deal it is to us, sometimes I get a look like I'm an alien and I'm a freakin' tech geeky type guy! It's not what you're/I'm saying it's the fact that I need to announce my thoughts electronically or what I'm doing while taking a crap or what kind of sandwich I'm having. It's a whole new "look at me!" world that I just don't get. But the kids raised in it conversely don't see what the big deal is. Major generational disconnect. It's definitely linked to the whole everyone is special and everyone's a winner and gets a trophy trend but it's a horse that got out of the barn long ago.

Sounds good. I'm not going to worry about what you believe as far as that goes

I made plenty of good points and if you want to try and pick one of dozens to try and discredit anything that's your prerogative. I am not worried

Sorry but keepin it clean the only reaction I have to that is "Oh baloney". I honestly find that assertion to be absurd especially when you consider the feedback of his teammates and mentors. That's just nonsensical hyperbole IMO.

So him saying people need to keep their word wasn't a public shot at coaches?

The interview tour he went on with his dad where his dad lambasted the coaching staff while Griffin sat right next to him was respectful?

What about the rumors of him bringing his dad into the coaching office to tell the coaches what plays he would/wouldn't run?

All the shots he's taken since the coaching staff left, was that just more respect?

You don't think he made decisions based on wanting it to be him behind center on the field, not someone else? You don't think that was his motive when he said to trent williams, in the midst of a play off game we were winning, that he was hurt but don't tell anyone?

Don't know what to say. If you haven't pieced these things together by now...

Sorry but shots taken after they were gone and after he was thrown under the bus with several dozen "phantom leaks" that fed into this bunk, selfish diva, attention whore label he's saddled with now. Meanwhile teammate after teammate after teammate refute that and say he's just an enthusiastic worker, good teammate, good leader (although in need of experience and work there), smart and has an undeniable desire to win. His dad could stand to take a step back and has since things boiled over in the media, but I think people expecting Robert to chastise his military father in public over words his military father stated when this kid is still in his early twenties are not being realistic. I know at age 43 I wouldn't do that to my retired Lt. Col Dad. maybe a private argument but publicly? No way. You guys aren't looking at it realistically. Plus they (Shannys) used astoundingly bad judgement and almost ruined his kid's career along with possibly screwing up his long term health and then threw him under the bus with underhanded, spineless leaks to their media buddies. ANY father worth a salt would have screamed bloody murder from my perspective.

And rumors are rumors, until I see the substantiated by the parties involved they remain so especially when teammates cry foul there too. I think it's hilarious that people think a kid -no matter who he is- could walk into the office of the same guy who stared down Haynesworth publicly and shown he is the textbook definition of control freak and Authoritarian and make demands. It's just absurd. Both of his parents were Army Sergeants. Anyone who thinks people of that ilk would approve and participate in the gross insubordination that would require don't know what a nut for respect for Authority military brass and Sergeants can be. I need proof before I even begin to buy that.

Man, this is still such a fascinating topic. Even after everything has been said, the questions remain. Every conclusion is correct when viewed in the light of it's evidence. And whichever side of the fence you're on, you're right.

One morning I'm all "let the man speak"... and the next I'm "Fool, shut up, ferPetesSake!"

Well, I guess I have my soap opera for the summer! lol.

Listening to the radio, and hearing what my arguments sound like from other people, I've realized I'm just an old curmudgeon.

I think there's valid complaints about the side shows with this team, but at the end of the day the guy is just doing his thing on his own time and we're focusing pent up frustration from 20 years of some shows on him. He probably deserves a bit more of a break, given how hard he's worked and played for us. Probably going to wind up being the best QB we've ever had...

So basically, you're telling us we're old! ;)

Boy we need to let the games begin. Football season can't come soon enough. I've said something like this before, but I am going to say it again. Many of the Redskin fans treated RG3 like he was some sort of "savior". One player (even a quarterback) can't bring a team to the Super Bowl. Don't tell me that all of the accolades that he received his first year of playing wouldn't get to someone's head. Especially, when his ego is his "Achille's Heel".

Don't give me this crap that he doesn't care about the team or about winning. He is still a leader and he is currently working hard to generate a positive "can do" attitude that the Redskins Organization has definitely lacked. Coach Shanahan has always been an "Eeyore" and over a period of time he brings everyone down. That is just his nature. In the Seattle game it was obvious that RG3 needed to come out because of his knee. In my opinion, it is the coach's job to pull the injured player and not the rookie player. If I were RG3's Dad I would be majorly upset with the way Shanahan handled his son in so many ways. Personally, I lost what little respect I had for Shanahan after the way he handled his job with the Redskins organization.

Regardless, I look forward to the new season, but still will say it takes a whole team to win a Super Bowl. Last season was not good, but too many of the Redskin fans have put too much of the blame on RG3 in my opinion. If he was going to start the first game of the season he should have been leading the team during at least half of the preseason. If he wasn't ready he should have been benched starting with game one. The way the whole season was handled was a joke in my opinion.

Hopefully, this will be a fresh start for everyone. :lift:

"we define how we play" means that how hard they practice, the effort they put in, the chemistry they develop and maintain determines how well they play. not one mention of them taking over a playbook or deciding what plays would be called.
QFT.

This is exactly the case.

Well done Michael.

Prediction: the Skins will move to 8-8 to 10-6 range this season and SB contenders in two years.

Everyone will be sporting "Movement" tee-shirts and buying into the bigger themes that Griffin is laying the groundwork for - with his teammates.

Is the idea kinda muddled? at this point...yea. but you can see where he is headed. it's about identity, responsibility, preparation, dedication, accountability, ownership, performance, self-determination. this is something new for DC - a key player actively and openly working to shape the team culture. he's just condensing everything into the mini-tags today's generations are comfortable absorbing - easier way of conveying a lot of old time values today's popular culture instinctively rejects.

pretty clever actually.
