The Name Change Thread

Well, the same can be said for the group the got the name changed too. It's all political in the end and agenda driven.

I can't take that 'NAGA' group seriously. Go to their site and read up on their 'Board of Directors'. I think this is a political group, not an advocacy group, and not a very intelligent or savvy one (and that’s being kind). Honestly, I find it embarrassing they are the face of the ‘name change’ push right now.

110K agree as of yesterday

If they go wolf commanders or space commanders I'll freak the F out.

I agree, and that's with them saying the same sort of stuff I've been saying for years. First thing I did was go to their site and look at their information. It's pretty poorly put together, but not out of the realm of stark amateurs. They don't really seem to have any clout.

What's done is done, and the only way to go is forward. If all that occurs is people correct the idiocy of thinking the name is/ever was a slur, and just give the old teams and such their due, that's all that can really be asked for at this point. Snyder is gone, and while I think commanders is a stupid name and the logo/branding sucks compared to what it was, it's better for the new ownership group to focus on getting a winner on the field, while treating their fans like they actually want them around.

Personally, I think Josh Harris and the ownership group should steer clear of any of the BS surrounding the name change back under Snyder and move on with a new brand 'name' and logo to start fresh.

To me 'Redskins' was the era I grew up with - George Allen years to the end of the Gibbs years when the team only had two losing seasons from 1971 to 1992 and went to 5 Super Bowls.

Everything that came after Joe's departure and JKC's decline due to age was entirely forgettable.

Snyder is down there with Donald Sterling, James Dolan, Ted Stepien, and a host of others in the sports owner's rogues gallery.

I remember a fan was arrested for 'relieving himself' on Art Modell's gravestone in Cleveland a few years ago.

I suppose that's one reason Snyder moved to France. No one cares about the NFL in Nice.

Marine, member of a tribe, from Oklahoma which translates to "red skin". The comments also are amazing

"Commanders team president Jason Wright says that the team will not consider going back to the old team name," JP Finlay of 106.7 The Fan tweeted Wednesday. "'It is not being considered. Period.'"

Fuck Jason wright. I might start a Twitter account just to let him know what a piece of shit he is.

I looked around but couldn’t find it. But wasn’t it Wright who last year said something to the effect of; If fans don’t like the name change and want to cling to the past, those aren’t fans we want to move forward with. Maybe I’m putting words in his mouth based on inference of other comments he made. But I definitely get this feeling when he talks that he wants to cut loose anything from the past, including fans who hold it so dearly. Which is what made this new ownership group refreshing. They recognized the team history, its value, and didn’t try to pretend it happened under a different name.

I'm actually glad Wright put this to bed. Nobody has come out with this same level of absolution about the name not changing, so I think that further states that a change is likely coming.

It never was going to go back. Not in 2023. Regardless of what we as fans believe about it being a sense of pride, and that's how WE have always used it, there is a certain group of people that are effected by the word Redskins. It's not unanimous across all Native groups, that's obvious. It was enough for sponsors to pull money, and i don't think anything can put that toothpaste back in the tube. Even if we were to get the name back, I think it would be temporary at best. The name has changed, I personally dont want to go back, to then have it taken away again. Lets change it from Commanders, to something better, and be done with it for the last time.

And not that it matters, really, but Jason Wright is just the mouthpiece here. This came from the new ownership group.

Great post ST

The very smart new ownership group.

You're glad?

Fuck Jason Wright and whomever he speaks for.

I'm glad it's getting put to bed because it's not gonna happen. Whether it come from Wright, Harris, Magic, or whoever. I have 0 belief it's actually an option so i'm glad SOMEBODY came out and put it to bed.

And no, i don't like Jason Wright.

Everyone just gives up on things too easily here. I'm glad you're happy it's over. I for one was actually hoping we could go back to our original name. I'm not glad to see people were so quick to just give up and act like it couldn't have happened.

I'm not giving up. The 'fight' never actually existed in my mind. The fight ended when the name changed originally. At that point it was never going to go back..

You just said you were glad it's over. I assume all Redskins gear will be gone and you all will move on to whatever the new name is only?

Just wondering how far the being glad it's over part is and if any of your stuff is going on sale.

Nothing is going on sale. That's a pivotal and historical part of my life.

The name changed, but my memories and the things i hold dear connected to it will never be gone.

I said i'm glad it's over in reference to this latest idea that it would go back when personally, as i said, i didn't think it was ever an actual possibility. Am i glad we changed, no.

Still confused, I guess. If you're embracing the new name why hold on to the past?

I guess I just don't like the idea of giving up on something but still wanting to hold onto it. I'm not going to stop fighting or calling them Redskins regardless. It's not in me to do so.

If enough people stand up and say "go back" it could go back. It's the very reason it was changed to begin with. A small mob of loud people protested until corporations finally caved.
