This topic has clearly resurfaced, appears to have significant momentum behind it, and by all accounts will be seriously considered in the coming days and months by the Harris group. When Jason Wright voices the possibility, you know it is not just wishful thinking by fans. So here we go again.

Let's use this thread to put forward possible new names. I'd like to get a laundry list of possible names you like and then we'll try and narrow it down with some polling.

I am not ruling out a return to 'Redskins' but I think that is an incredible longshot. Setting aside the 'societal pressures' we now experience with anything remotely controversial, the NFL and our sponsors clearly applied significant pressure to change it and I think trying to undo that history would be very difficult. I think that would be at the top of most lists, but for purposes of this thread, it's not realistically on the table.

The only limitation on preferred names is that it has to realistically have the potential to garner acceptance from the majority of the fanbase and be more widely accepted by fans in contrast to 'Commanders'.

I will start, with that in mind, by listing the names I think would've met that criteria based on fan sentiments from the first go round, and will update this post as folks make suggestions. These don't necessarily represent my preferences, just what I have seen repeatedly advocated for...

Warriors
Wolves
Redwolves
Hogs
Warthogs
Skins
Sentinels
WFT
WFC
DCFC
Burgundy and Gold
Legends
Brave/Braves

WARTHOGS.

shortened down to Hogs
Have 2 A10 warthogs fly over every hole game

Put this up as a fun way to connect with the kids in the crowd

I've always liked that one. Alliterative, easy to make a badass logo with, lots of swag potential. Not to mention, they have a fierce, nasty disposition. I think 'Hogs' sounds silly only because it was never a 'team' name anymore than 'The Fun Bunch' or 'The Smurfs' would make a suitable name being for a specific unit. 'Redhogs' is just an 'R' word too far for me as there is no such thing as a 'redhog' (at least with Redwolves the creature actually exists).

For me, it has to be something that has some time ins to our history/heritage. With that in mind...

Washington DC Football Club (with the DCFC abbreviation)

Washington Burgundy and Gold

Washington Legends

Washington Brave (intentionally leaving out the "s")

No ‘s’ or not, no way they go with ‘Brave’ imho as it will be made out to be NA-themed (hell some argued wolves and warriors should be out for that reason).

I think as usual, some 'imprecise' language by Rivera has sparked a lot of the 'bring back Redskins' talk. I guess it's possible that Harris is so determined to return the team to its roots he goes there, but as Rick Snider said this morning, the biggest barrier is corporate sponsors bailing - which is how we got here in the first place. As a fan, as much as I hated the name change, I don't want to have to contend with the controversy on an ongoing basis. Move forward with something fans can embrace at least at some level.

I'd be way more than happy telling the overly sensitive woke crowd they lost and they can shut up. I'd actually love it.

Never got the name "Washington Legends"

What's the symbol? A rotating montage week to week of George Washington,Ben Franklin,Jefferson etc?

Or Sonny,Riggo,Baugh etc?

That's as off the wall as Commies,imo.....

I feel the same way on that one DP. I think because it's been a hell of a long time since we had any 'Legends' of any kind on a DC football field, it would almost open us up to mockery. I don't really understand what it refers to either, and that's my primary issue with Commanders. If we're going to go with a more 'vague' name, I prefer 'Sentinels' only because there is an aspect of government, our military, the Supreme Court, and the law that is centered in Washington DC that represents protection and being 'on guard' against threats to liberty and justice that at least makes some sense.

We're getting mocked now. Might as well be the name we like if it's going to happen.

Do you really expect them to back to Redskins? Forget what you want. Will they go back to it?

I can’t imagine that’s a serious likelihood.

Expect? Nope

Went? Absolutely

They very well could go back to it though. This country is now bucking back against cancel culture and making it known they won't be bullied. I'd love someone like magic who has a transgender son/daughter to change it back. He's black, he is an AIDS advocate/survivor, and he has a kid with pronouns. It doesn't get any better for our odds than that one.

A good owner could work with Native Americans to get them to rally behind the name. I know that was tried at one point, but I don't think there was any follow through on it. Plus, being who it was, it was seen for what it was, just an attempt to get criticism off of him. Once that criticism got too much, he ran the other way and changed the name. But if they really wanted it back, they could do it. Now, I have my doubts that they will, but that's how they could get it changed back.

I moved to an Indian reservation in 1984 in northern California as a child. When I arrived I saw so many people with Redskins gear on I thought they were fans. My cracker ass was quickly told they hated my team, they were niner fans, and this had nothing to do with football.

Call them the Red Hawks or Red Wolves and have a trendy, marketable logo that can sell lots of merch, so we can lower the price of the $15 hotdog by a few cents

We aren't going back to Redskins. We aren't going back to WFT as the team would be the only one in the NFL without a nickname or mascot/logo worthy of merchandising and gaining ad revenue.

One thing we can do as well is change the college-issue type uniforms with the tracer set wide 'W'.

The worst part of the uniforms has been the black alternate. Washington looks too much like the Steelers in those uniforms.

You could work in a cool black with red image if you take Red Hawks or Red Wolves and make it distinctive.

What makes the Chicago 'C', Cleveland orange and other basic helmets around the league is the history attached to those uniforms and helmets.

Those teams if starting out as expansion franchises today would not select those colors or helmet logos.

The 'W' in Washington really only has relevance to the baseball team from the perspective of history.

I'd be fine with almost anything to get rid of the reminder of Doofus Dan with the current name. Nobody wanted that name in the first place. With all of the polls did anyone ever see Commanders chosen by anyone, ever?

While Wright says a name change isn't on the team's current to-do list, both Harris and partial owner Magic Johnson have publicly floated the idea of a new name. Head coach Ron Rivera also answered questions about a possible change — specifically when it comes to the idea of switching back to the old "Redskins" name.

Jason just needs to go away. If two of the owners talked about it, just shut up with your unwelcomed opinion. How does he even have a job here?

He has a job because Danny boy needed to take cover and the new guy didn't want to shake things up too quickly, I guess.
