The Jayden Daniels Tracker

Jayden will be the one on the apology tour on this one. Outside of a few Skins fans, no one is defending him on this issue. It was just so incredibly short sighted. Mom thought Jayden was untouchable and mom thought wrong. I’m sure it’ll all sort itself out and he will get his number retired eventually. But very bold to burn the bridge of an established legacy already.

Really? I don't care.

Make plays, win games and stay healthy is what I care about.

It’s a little embarrassing, but if he plays well, then fans will forgive and forget pretty quick, we’ve certainly seen much worse than this from many NFL players.

Ummm?

IDK, the more I digest it…I get it.

I feel like most schools would hold onto the Heisman # for more than a few years, before handing it over to some cornerback.
Is it just some cornerback? I honestly don’t know, but I assume he must be pretty good if they were willing to make this concession to get him there.

I already forgive and forget. Yes it’s a bad look, but it’s really not that big a deal. I’d rather have a good quarterback getting bad advice than a bad quarterback getting good advice.

Apologize for what? That he hurt some college fans' feelings now that they can't buy Jayden LSU gear, or see his poster on a wall?

The whole thing is stupid and getting joked about, but he has done nothing that warrants an apology to anyone.

A football player decided he doesn't want his name and face endorsing someone's product. Tragic.

lol bro, ok. I’ve been Jayden’s biggest champion, but he just burned the bridge (which I believe he can fix) with his only lasting legacy. He tears his acl or ends up another RG3 , God forbid.. he has nothing to fall back on. Take your burgundy and gold glasses off. It’s a terrible look. He needs to punt his mom to the curb. The only folks defending him are his legal team and Ryan Clark who is an absolute clown. You want mama Jayden involved in the negotiations when it comes to re up Jayden? I don’t. He needs to grow up and hire a real agent. The whole LSU team was rocking 5 jerseys at practice yesterday. He looks like a clown in all of this.

Do I think this story will impact his play? Absolutely not. But his mom is walking drama and needs to be kicked to the curb asap. Jayden is that dude and can be our franchise QB and be the elite of the elite, but he needs to hire a real agent.

His mom got him here, why would he turn his back on it? He's already done more than the best 1% of the planet is capable of. He's not going to separate from his mom, so thats now just part of the deal. She's going to do what every mom on the planet would do, and that's be his biggest advocate. The team, ANY team, that wants him to be part of their future is going to have to understand she's part of the deal. If you want him to step away from her, i'm sorry, but it aint gonna happen.

BayouBrave86 - I know you have been a big Jayden fan so I am surprised to see you write he should kick his mom to the curb. I guess you mean it as wishful thinking? You wrote a lot there about something I see as extremely unlikely. Maybe Jayden getting hit with lightning is as likely.

I wonder if there's more money involved also. Giving that number to another player, creates the NIL deal for that other player to financially benefit. Jayden can no longer claim the financial gain of that number association. I would imagine he still got a cut of jersey sales / number related revenue that pointed back to the #5 because they were still using it with his NIL on billboards / gameday programs / school ads. Now that money goes to the new kid wearing the number, because it's no longer Jayden's. Possible he not only feels disrespected, but he's also not happy that they're going to keep advertising him, while taking a chunk out of the NIL he's entitled to? Of course, all of this is my own speculation that he's still getting a cut of the #5 money... I admit I have absolutely zero idea about how that NIL stuff actually works, and what happens after that 180 day period of usage.. I'm assuming he's still getting some financial compensation but he might not be?
I’m not sure this is about money. I pay a lot of attention to the details in what people say in their public statements - and the word disrespect has been thrown in with the timing where it feels like the main thing here.

I truly think he is a bit confused at how his Heismann is “less than” others. It is kind of an established practice/understanding at LSU, win a Heismann, have your number retired, no one touches it. So, I think the whole saga has probably been very perturbing from a pure expectation standpoint. Now, again, I find it all unnecessary but that’s just me.

You know - this is supposed to be a football thread about Jayden Daniels as an NFL player. I have no interest in the Jayden LSU controversy so I wish if folks want to discuss/overreact to that someone would start a separate thread.

Here you go.

If you guys want to talk LSU scandal and Jayden, please do it here.

Daniels has one of the biggest diamond crusted crucifix necklaces on during the game I have ever seen.

I have no problem with faith and all that, but I really don’t think it’s a great idea to wear any necklace during a football game.

Did Daniels not play but 1 possession? After last years rust to start the season I would have thought he'd be getting more pre-season in.

He played three whole plays, and that'll be his entire preseason.

Quinn better be right about this approach. We get thrown into the meat grinder immediately when the season starts against some really good teams.

Two years. We had two years of slow starts, but in our playoff season, we didn't start against divisional teams. Much more expensive Ls to swallow to start the season this year.
