Jayden Daniels Responds to Ongoing NIL Controversy

Washington Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels has sent a cease-and-desist to LSU over the use of his NIL after the school issued his No. 5 jersey to DJ Pickett.

Jayden Daniels has caught the ire of the football masses for the first time in his burgeoning professional career, and it isn't for a reason anyone would have first assumed, with training camp coming to a head and the NFL preseason approaching.

The Washington Commanders' star quarterback finds himself embroiled in an NIL controversy with LSU, the school with which he won the distinguished Heisman Memorial Trophy, as his camp is reportedly "deeply disappointed" and feels "profoundly disrespected" at the university's choice to hand his hallowed No. 5 to a recruit.

The Tigers weren't slow in fighting back against Daniels' cease-and-desist letter, a demand that the school stop using his name, image and likeness. New LSU head coach Lane Kiffin stood by a promise evidently made to sophomore cornerback DJ Pickett regarding the number, but Daniels, attempting to save face amidst the brewing legal dispute, took to Instagram to personally address his priorities.

There are only two real options here...

1) Its not Jayden's fault
2) It's Lane Kiffin's fault

Lane Kiffin may be a slimeball, but Jayden's camp simply misread how to PR this situation. In the grand scheme it's a nothing burger but what is a little concerning is his team (likely his mother) couldn't do PR 101 here and it makes Jayden look bad even if he did nothing wrong. It's an unforced error. Locally, here, he'll be supported but he's getting killed elsewhere.

not him. Until he comes out and says HE'S pissed, I won't believe it bothers him.
I don’t believe it was him either. But even if he was, he’s not going to come out and say it, especially now. And that’s the thing. Everybody knows this so they’re going to assume that whatever his “camp“ a.k.a. Mom says is probably coming from him. With the only other possibility being that it’s coming from her based on her perception of what he’s thinking or what she thinks is best for him.

I have no reason to believe she’s not a good person or a good mother, and she clearly did a great job raising him. But she is not an experienced representative/agent and it shows. The best thing she can do for her son is to step aside, otherwise he’s eventually going to be forced to cut the cord himself.

In the end this spat with LSU is no big deal at all. I agree it’s pretty much a nothing burger. But we all love Jayden, and we all want what’s best for him. And I do think both he and his mother need to hear the criticism that they are getting right now.

I get this sentiment that Jayden should not use his Mom as his agent. Seems obvious.

However my read of:
- his relationship with his Mom
- Mom’s words
- his words on the subject

I mean, I don’t see this happening. At all. I can’t imagine what his Mom would have to do for it to happen. Maybe I am misreading it, but as of now, I don’t see his Mom agent situation changing under any foreseeable circumstance.

I’ll just leave this here where hopefully nobody will see it. I get wanting to protect him from gold diggers. But showing up while he’s on a date in college is, to put it as nicely as possible, bizarre.
