The Jayden Daniels Tracker

Correct me if Im wrong on some of these please...this wasnt a designed run, this was him running to avoid a sack, right?

He gained muscle over the off-season because people said he was "frail".

This is football, and injuries happen.

Some years the injury bug just hits...our I cured list reads like the starting lineup of an expansion team right now...

Y'all need to calm the freak down. This was a bad injury year....seems to be the case all over the league.

We get a good draft pick this year and start filling the holes we all knee needed to be filled.

Totally freaking out here in ATL.
Hugs.

Today is a day for overreacting and feeling miserable or angry. In 2024 almost every bet Peters made paid out. This year, the Commanders just keep rolling snake eyes. I mean look at the way the ball bounces every time the opponent fumbles.

Dislocations suck, they reak havoc on muscles, tendons, and ligiments. That being said, I feel the problem is more a protection issue then Daniels being injury prone. He's been running for his life. Maybe if our line coach, and OC actually tried more then "business as usual," we wouldn't be in this situation. Sure the line is banged up, but top knotch coaches find ways to keep things moving in the right direction. Other injuries compound it, with a receiver corps that's gotten thin, and often can't get seperation making it that much harder on the line. That was a freak accident, and could happen to any player or a person out in the street trying to cushion a fall by putting an arm out. It's a reflex action... Over the years, it's been said many times. You can have the most talanted QB in the league, and not produce behind a suspect line. Just my 2 cents.....

We knew the defense would be bad but nobody expected them to be this bad. Most disappointed in the OL Biadasz is quietly having a shitting year, Cosmi has sucked in his return and the rookie while showing improvement is certainly not the player we envisioned. This is a big problem, players like Biadasz, Luvu, Ertz, Wagner, Lattimore and Cosmi were counted on to be solid players and they have sucked. None of the draft picks other than the often injured Jayden have shown to be players that move the needle.

Agree. Not a designed run, and it was a freak injury. The OL put the QB in danger all night long, it was embarrassing, play was supposed to be a quick throw but JD5 didn't even have time for that.

ESPN:

According to ESPN Research, Daniels was pressured on a career-high 51% of his dropbacks Sunday night, including 61% in the second half. He was hit 14 times, according to TruMedia, the second most he had been hit this season. In Week 2, Daniels was hit 17 times against Green Bay, with one of those hits to his knee resulting in a sprain and two-week absence.

Quinn said Daniels suffered the injury during a play that is usually a handoff or a throw to the flat. Daniels didn't hand off to running back Chris Rodriguez Jr., but nobody was open in the flat and there was instant pressure.

"You don't want to think that way where an injury could take place," Quinn said. "It wasn't a designed read or play to that spot. If we run it 50 times, it's either a handoff or throw 50 times. So, yeah, it's a bummer, man."

I turned it off at the half. I knew after the first 2 series the game was over. Commanders had to work so hard for every yard and the Hawks acquired them with no effort. I just saw Jayden go down as I watched the rest this morning.

What a total disaster this season has become. We just can't have nice things, now it's a very real question about Jayden being able to play in this league without injury.
I waited until halftime, but same feeling - it was a slog for us and a breeze for them. Same against Dallas and the Chiefs. Similar against Chicago. Teams have dominated the LOS. They’ve taken away our run game and our offense grinds to a halt and shoots themselves in the foot.

I said to my wife before the game (she’s big on positive vibes) - “I’ll avoid saying anything negative, but I’m hoping for two things - we don’t get completely embarrassed and Daniels doesn’t get hurt.” Apparently even that was far too much to ask.

Our season’s done (I knew it was after the Dallas game, but whatever), so I hope we at least start playing our younger guys more. Bench Wagner and Ertz to see how McGee and Sinnot perform (I’d have said bench Lattimore, but…). Maybe play Owens more. Hell, I’d consider rotating Coleman in for Tunsil. Maybe bring in some young DEs?

Play ground and pound from under center with Rodriguez as the lead and Bill as the change up. Can’t get much worse, eh?

If the dislocation is a fracture then he's out for the season and needs surgery. If it's not a fracture then he's out 4-6 weeks, no surgery. Either way, it's not his legs and it's not his throwing arm so he should be fine long term

I gotta tell ya, I was scared when they drafted Jayden. I thought, "That dudes a twig. He's gonna get killed out there". And then he played, and I thought he had some kind of magic ju ju around him that kept him from being creamed. But the ju ju is gone. I guess I just don't understand the way the coaching staff is thinking (Maybe that's a good thing). When he sprained his knee, JD5 said he could play the week before he came back, and we heard the whole "Abundance of caution" thing. Fine. But last night they left him out there when the game was lost and we were getting killed. What happened to the "abundance of caution" thing? Regardless, my belief is they should shut him down this year. I hope he comes back stronger next year and I hope he can last for us for the next 10 years. But I'm starting to have my doubts. Get well kid

Just way to many similarities to RG for my sanity at this point. I loved watching JD play last year, he is something special no doubt about it. But this year has been nothing like last year in any way.

I hope he can come back next year (yes shut this season down) and get back some of last seasons magic.

I’m right there with you Sarge in almost all of that.

My only mild disagreement is on the ‘ju ju’. To me it’s more of a mathematical issue. Jayden looked like a matador last night in a ring of angry bulls. 61% pressure rate in the 2nd half? (51% for the game) Good luck to any QB with that.

I'm very angry 😠

I don't really agree with this. I think the problem is teams know exactly how to play us, and that way is stack the box, play man on the outside, and bring pressure every snap.

Our current slate of weapons can't get immediate separation. The OL will get overwhelmed because they're at a numbers disadvantage. There's nowhere to go with the ball most of the time, your QB gets happy feet and starts to scramble. I wouldn't be surprised if JD5 is starting to get jittery because he knows 1. He's going to face a pressure package, and 2. There's damn near nothing he can do about it because he can't beat it with a quick throw because the receivers are not good enough to get separation off of the line.

You can't really run at it, because you're running into numbers.

So that ends up with a lot of QB scrambles and QB hits.

If WRs are not open, the QB has to either run or hold the ball. Both of which lead to hits.

Deebo/McCaffery (now hurt)/Lane/Burke/Moore/Chosen/Martin/whoever are the WRs we've tried the last 5 weeks. None of them can force a defense NOT to play the style I outlined above. And there really isn't an answer. It's why you can't have PS level players as starters.

I actually have a lot of faith in Daniels overall. I think this season just went sideways early because of all the early WR injuries + Terry's hold-in. Because of the hold-in, the offense never practiced together, so week 1 was "fine" but out of sync. Against not a very good Giants team at the time.

Then Noah Brown got hurt (again), Terry got hurt, and there were no answers.

No QB can do it entirely by himself. There has to be a surrounding cast. And a whole lot of the players who we had counted on to be that surrounding cast are now on IR.

I was a little more Maye than Daniels during the draft. Always admitted that. But I think Daniels still could be, and might actually still be, the best QB of that class if he had literally ANY help. He's playing 1 vs. 11 right now, and it's not working. It wouldn't work for Maye, Nix, Penix or McCarthy either.

Absolutely. Some clips below, this isn't me cherry picking, this is just from the first drive and a half. Guys are blanketed. I saw a couple of times if he turned the other way, he might have gotten completions to Ertz. But otherwise he had nowhere to go.

Jayden last year had Terry, Noah, Zaccheus, Dyami, Crowder. Terry is good, not great. The other three are decent-competent but nothing special. But this is a far cry from the crap he's throwing to this year. This year they basically got Deebo and that's it. And even he missed a game and wasn't himself in another when he was banged up.

Jayden has shown he doesn't need an elite Wr corp just give him an ok one. But right now he arguably has the worst supporting cast in the NFL.
