The Front Office

Admittedly it's getting harder and harder for me to be able to spin these moves to not be nepotism...

That said I don't know exactly what this title entails...

People are saying the guy who held this title before was Bruce Allen's errand boy so I don't know the actual impact of the move. My brain took me to this person being responsible for scheduling the bus to and from the stadium and operations like that but who knows

Although we never saw any moral or character issues in Carolina (that I know of), we also didn't see many rings either.

I would like to see some fresh blood get a chance.

All the ex Panther hires are past comical at this point and quickly approaching sad.

easy, Eeyore. We won the division last year and people actually think we are heading up fast.

My opinion is I don’t care where they came from, can they do their job. That’s what matters.

Ultimately you're right, this is 100% all that matters. IF this front office and team are more successful than we've been over the last 30 years with any level of consistency then nobody will care.

I know some of you are Jason Wright fans, but this shit really just makes me sick to my stomach.

Jesus - enough with the corporate speak. I don't know what 'fans' these folks are listening to, but if you want to hear your franchise referred to as 'the football team' for the rest of eternity, I don't think we can be friends.

I'd prefer it over redwolves.... honestly.

If we can't be the Redskins, I'd rather just keep this name so people realize how ridiculous the name change was.

Kansas City Football Team
Cleveland Baseball Team
Florida State Football Team

Just so they end up hating it and quitting doing things like this.

Lol. So that's our choice? WFT or Redwolves?

And they can't choose a name out of spite :)

Honestly - I think Wright is scared shitless ... he's gonna drag this out to 2025 before all is said and done. The idea that we need to poll every individual fan and do focus groups - it's just so weak. Grow a pair. And. Pick. A. GD. Name.

I know everyone has their own opinion MikefromOH , and has earned a right to it. That's just mine.

I was recently asked for my favorite sports team. In years past, I would say the Redskins. Now without a name, I just default to the Capitals, then Orioles, then I normally say “Football Team”. For me personally, I’d rather have a nickname and the sooner the better. It’s going to be stupid no matter what they choose. And because everything the Redskins do is seen as negative, it won’t be received well. But I’d rather just get it over with, get all the complaining out of the way now, and just live with the name.

They're the Redskins until I die.

My kids also call them Redskins.

They'll never not be the Redskins in my home :)

It didn't take Abe Pollin years to change the name from Bullets to Wizards.

I wasn't in favor of the move and believe it has backfired on the franchise, but from a business standpoint it moved forward in reasonable time frame as I recall.

In regards to the name itself, let's be honest. Changing the name to Warriors or Wolves isn't much more imaginative than having WFT or Washington Football Club (WFC).

Yes, Wolves would create a market for 7-8 year olds to purchase little stuffed animals. But this team has a long way to go to bring back the fan interest on Sundays as it used to when greater Washington would just about shut down on Sunday afternoon while the Redskins game was on.

Very true BD.

There was nothing like being in or around DC when the Skins were legitimately good. I would have complete strangers strike up conversations with me on the Metro or walking around town if you were wearing Skins gear. It was the one uniting factor in the whole city. Beg borrow or steal a ticket to RFK on a Sunday and get loud wih 56,000 of your best friends. There was nothing like it.

A lot of that died when they moved out of DC (I'm not going to go over what we all know about FedEx again). Snyder has done his best to kill the rest of it. The fact that (as much as I can't stand them) the Ravens are a well run organization and had success as soon as they arrived in Baltimore didn't help. You lost a whole generation of MD fans with that. You also lost a lot of the younger fans in NC to the Panthers when they came along in 95'. I can tell you NC and SC used to be Skins country big time. The older fans like myself could never go with the Panthers when they started play but a lot of kids in the area didn't have the same memories I did, and the Panthers have been in the Super Bowl twice since we last went. Let that sink in.

No NFL name ever brought back fan interest. Winning and building a tough competetive team is the only thing that will do that. Getting rid of Beezlebub as owner would help as he's turned off many fans. But the name will not impact popularity of the team in the long-run or attendance. There will be the anticipated 25% who hate whatever it is (if you are lucky). The only goal I hope they achieve is to select something that's just not patently embarassing or stupid. That's why this whole 'corporate' decision process is so silly. They have literally said things like 'we don't just want a name, we want a name that creates change and inspires people'. What? Good lord, just pick a reasonably respectable name and get it done.

Given who Snyder is my guess is in the back of his mind he still wants to pick a name and mascot that like a little Wolf will end up under a kid's tree on Christmas :D

He has to make back all those legal and media relations fees the organization has been paying to fight off the Tsunami of allegations that began in 2020.

The thing here is that you an have teh best of both worlds, if you follow the European model for Soccer clubs.

Our football clubs tend to have names AND nicknames.

Arsenal are The Gunners
West Ham are The Hammers
Manchester United are The Red Devils
Southampton are The Saints

etc, etc.

I'd honestly be happy (or as happy as I can be) if the team just went with 'Washington Football Club' (rather than Team. Club to my ear just sounds better!) and then if Dan wants his marketable mascot, then give the team a nickname a la the way we do it here.

Georgetown’s mascot of the Bulldog has nothing to do with the name Hoyas.

There are others out there that are well known brands.

The thoughtless play is simply to reach for yet another animal logo/mascot to match most of the other teams.

Another hire for the revamped front office...
