That's all great in theory, but if another team picks up Minnifield and he can play CORNERBACK in the NFL at a pro level for a number of years, that extra spot for special teams will seem like a luxury item. I know every ST coordinator says they have a 'system' of X number of running backs, X number of linebackers and X number of defensive backs on coverage units, but I really have to question what Jerome Murphy might bring to this team IF any of the regular corners goes down and we actually have to play him at a regular position on the field.
I think you can expect Minnifield and Nixon to be claimed off the practice squad during the season. It's a reflection of the improvement of the team that better players are becoming candidates for the PS each year.
Both Minnifield and Nixon at one time or another were rated as guys that could go between the second and fourth rounds. Teams know these players.
With his knee issues, I doubt Chase gets much interest. Nixon may very well, but as I said above, they'll do everything they can to keep him.
