The down to final 53 thread 2013

They have the luxury of a couple folks returning, so they don't have to make the decision on the final couple of spots right now. I have to think that's all the White thing is about.

I think R44 was talking about Tanard, not Rob.

I was thinking about Tanard. Too many Jacksons to keep up with, plus was in a hurry to get out and do the yard.

It's possible we are working on a trade. BB...have you heard anything about where we are in relation to the cap?

Winfield informs the Seahawks that he has decided to retire.

Tweet from John Keim:

So CB Antoine Winfield is retiring per numerous reports. Once upon a time, Redskins had interest. Former Buckeye had standout career.

We don't have enough clipboards.

I hope one of those 4 qb's can block, tackle, or cover.

We're up against the cap - no real wiggle room.

John Keim again on Minnifield, for those still scratching their heads:

Really sounds like the decision to cut Chase minnifield came down to special teams. Murphy better in this area.

Oh, 1 more w/minnifield. Had he made roster, was told he would have been inactive every week b/c of spec tms play. Hence, desire 2 put on PS

Well, well.

I guess the question now is, what will be the lead headline in sports media tonight, "Redskins Keep Four Quarterbacks", or, "Tebow Dumped Again.?"

That's all great in theory, but if another team picks up Minnifield and he can play CORNERBACK in the NFL at a pro level for a number of years, that extra spot for special teams will seem like a luxury item. I know every ST coordinator says they have a 'system' of X number of running backs, X number of linebackers and X number of defensive backs on coverage units, but I really have to question what Jerome Murphy might bring to this team IF any of the regular corners goes down and we actually have to play him at a regular position on the field.

I think you can expect Minnifield and Nixon to be claimed off the practice squad during the season. It's a reflection of the improvement of the team that better players are becoming candidates for the PS each year.

Both Minnifield and Nixon at one time or another were rated as guys that could go between the second and fourth rounds. Teams know these players.

Its not surprising to me that Winfield is retiring, everything I've read said that he couldn't cover anymore and was essentially done anyway.

RE: Minnifield & Nixon being snatched up, I think the team is willing to take that risk. They were willing with Compton last year, and quadrupled his PS salary to keep him. I think they'll attempt the same with those two.

Plus, losing talented players off our practice squad? "Sounds like one of them good problems." -Avon Barksdale
