The Bombshell

There are thousands of highly qualified (certainly as qualified as Mrs. Snyder) female executives they could have hired to accomplish a goal of more inclusion and to ensure the culture continues moving in a more appropriate direction. Instead he appoints his wife. Pretty clear to me that that’s about maintaining control and possibly even some paranoia as well since it ensures he has eyes and ears on things at all times, even with a suspension. I don’t like being cynical. But I am cynical.
 
IF this is an altruistic move by Dan Snyder it would be his first.

I believe Rick Snider has the correct suspicion.
 
No doubt there are plenty more-qualified women than Tanya Snyder for the role ... no suggestion otherwise. Fact is, she's the owner's wife. As such she cuts the line. Doesn't rule out the possibility 1) she might do a good job, 2) it's not on balance a "good move" by the organization.

Guess overall I'm not just thinking about this latest move ... I'm trying to take it in context of adding it to all the other "diversity" moves the team has made over the recent past. I've been looking for a comprehensive list but haven't found one yet--if anyone does, please post it? Be interesting to look at that list and try to get a handle on whether or not we think the team gets any credit for "doing the right thing," or if it still all just comprises a cynical knee-jerk reaction on their part to try to put out the fire?
 
I just see it as continued tone-deafness. There are things the team could’ve done to mitigate a suspension other than making a move which is clearly going to raise a lot of eyebrows. Given the choice this is the move they opted for. And I am under no delusion this move was driven by Jason Wright or other executives - I have to believe Snyder himself is behind it.

The problem with this whole scenario is that many of us believe that ‘culture change’ can never really occur until the guy who spent 20 years creating it is gone. And that’s not going to happen unless the NFL changes in some real ways. Not likely.

I will continue to view the corporate speak, platitudes, and ‘culture change’ with the utmost cynicism. I hate feeling this way, but not even Saint Gibbs and his imminence Ron Rivera will change who Dan Snyder is.
 
There has clearly been a focus on developing a diverse culture. (Though I don’t think this move has anything to do with that.)

It is possible to both do the right thing and to be driven to do so solely out of self-interest. That’s where my money lies knowing the historical actions of Dan Snyder.

Thats really well-stated. Probably the best we can hope for is that this puts Snyder in a tenuous enough position that he has to tow the line and alter his behavior if only to retain ownership down the road, not because he’s capable ofchange or being a decent human being?

This is my beef with Snyder in instances like this. Even when he does the right thing (debatable here but similar situations have arisen), it seems he does it for he wrong reasons. I don’t want to crush someone for doing the right thing for the wrong reasons, because ultimately the right thing was done. But in his case, it just never seems to be the right reason. It always seems to be self serving or to try and deflect criticism.

Sad but true.

There is a 22 year (or so) accumulation of evident behavior that clearly defines the man. I don’t believe that somehow he has experienced a ‘come to Jesus’ epiphany, taken a long look in the mirror, and made that change. I think he is desperately swimming against a current and scheming a strategy to maintain and protect his self-interest.

The one positive in my mind (outside of this latest maneuver, which I don’t think applies) is that people have been given opportunities that were previously either not available to them or that were very hard to come by.

That is a very good thing.

I’m so tired of the entire thing. The NFL is a joke.
 
Does Dan have to return the behind the scenes video of the cheerleaders swimsuit photoshoot that he directed to be produced within the culture conditions he has recently learned about?

Is Tanya required to wear high heels and sexually enticing clothing when in the building?
 
She has been designated the team representative "for at least the next several months". There is no date for Dan's return to day-to-day control of the team.

Granted, I still consider it weak sauce. The league gave the team the head's up that this was coming so that Dan could decide who got the "big chair" while he was standing in the corner. Lousy.
 
Whoever wrote Dan’s statement referred to the organization as the Washington Football Club in the 3rd paragraph and the Washington Football Team in the 4th paragraph.
 
There seem to be a shocking number of Washington fans on social media who really seem to believe that Tanya Snyder is the new owner for the forseeable future.

There's no way in hell she is anything but a token placeholder until the firestorm dies down. And it will. Because, ultimately as fans we deserve what we get, and the vast majority of fans either don't care, or are too naive to believe we still have a problem at the top.
