Terry said he's going to be the different version of a 30 year old WR. lol, he's barely just hit 30 and he's already the stereotypical 30 plus year old WR -- hurt with declining production.

I am not saying he doesn't rebound. But missing three games just about guarantees a declining productive season. And if some argue if he does rebound for argument's sake, well if he played in every game, then his numbers would be this -- well, that's part of the point of 30 plus year old Wrs durability -- declining numbers not just because of ability but also because of availability.

As I've mentioned on this thread, love Terry. He was my guy even before they drafted him. But I think his off season was selfish. It felt like an attempt to take advantage of their SB window by thinking the team would overpay him to avoid an overhang that would effect camp and the early season. But Peters didn't blink, he took on that overhang -- so Terry ultimately had to blink. But now the team is dealing with Terry's actions by having him sidelined.

I just have the feeling that he is not going to be the focus of this offense ever again in the way he was previously. I may go so far as to say giving him the deal we gave him may turn out not to have been the best decision. Deebo and Bill are clearly our current offensive stars now. I don't see that changing even if Terry comes back healthy and eventually gets back to his usual production level. I am not sure he CAN get back to his usual production level because that has always been driven by the fact that we had no other stars on the offense besides him. I think the combination of him holding out, not practicing/playing, and Jayden becoming comfortable with the guys who ARE playing may result in 2025 being more or less a bust for McLaurin.

I don't know that I'm ready to close the book on Terry.

I agree with skinsinparadise, the off-season was incredibly selfish. However, more than selfish, because I don't really have a problem with anybody maximizing their earning potential, it was unwise, misguided, and eventually unsuccessful. He didn't get what he wanted. And it took him the entire off-season to realize he wasn't going to get what he wanted. He could have come to the realization earlier, but never did.

That cost him preparation time, and good vibes. When you look at the below from Spotrac, he essentially signed a one year extension with a $30m signing bonus and $44.6 fully guaranteed.

That's not even the same as if he played on his 2025 season on his old contract and then got franchised in 2026. He got LESS than that amount in guarantees. That means the negotiations failed from his perspective.

Unfortunately as time passes the context will be lost and it will be forgotten that we decidedly “won” that negotiation despite the entire national media world ignorantly screaming that Terry was a good soldier and we should just pay him whatever he wants, or it would hurt Jayden’s development, etc. Instead people will ignore the fact that Terry didn’t get what he wanted at all, and will still point to the contract he DID sign as a bad one and a further example for why paying 30+ year old WR’s is poor roster building.

We really couldn’t win in this situation once Terry decided to be a selfish asshole about it. That’s what I’ll remember most about him unless we win the SB in the next 2-3 years.
 
It's amazing how badly Terry damaged his reputation. A season ago, no one would have ever imagined he might milk an injury. Now, all the bad blood he created through his selfishness, bad quotes, not standing on the sidelines, and contract dispute has left us wondering.

Six months ago, he was the consumate pro, the ultimate example we wanted our rookies to model themselves after, now...?
 
He may not have had as much leverage, but he had a ton of good will. He squaundered it by overasking and then significantly underperforming. I think it's pretty clear based on his performance pre-injury that he was not in football shape and ready to go. I suspect (which I think may be me being unfair) his injury was due to him not practicing him enough and his body just not being used to doing football plays.

It was such a routine tackle/dive.
 
I'd add to it the odd and sulky behavior from Terry IMO. What's the point for example to double down after the contract was signed that he really meant it when he wanted a trade at the time?

Then add the multiple reports that he likely was asking around 40 million a year. With leaks (and hints from his own rhetoric) that he considers himself a top 3 level WR and it hurts him that this team doesn't feel the same -- and the only way the team can placate him is to pay him like he's an elite WR.

The pouting look on the bench on the sidelines during the preseason. All the veiled shots at the FO during the process.

The irony is if he did what Deebo is doing which is play out his contract and ball and let his play speak for itself - he might have gotten a bigger bag. Deebo is coming into the next off season with more leverage.

If he wanted to show the world that he's not the typical 30 year old where he isn't more injury prone because he's at an older age and his production doesn't drop -- then go ahead and prove it. But he wasn't willing to do that. He didn't want to play out his contract. So now he has basically a one year extension and the team can cut bait. Feels like karma.

The only thing I can think of that makes good sense of all his behavior is maybe Terry and his agent didn't really see him as an elite Wr and a 40 million type of WR -- but they knew the SB window for Washington is now and in turn they might overpay Terry to ensure this season isn't derailed. And they pushed it as far as they could -- took veiled shots at Peters, asked for a trade, didn't show up to minicamp, camp -- not a second of a camp and eventually Peters would give in.
 
Doesn't look like it. From reports, he hasn't practiced at all this week.

I wouldn't be surprised at this at all.

But I'm also not saying he could be doing more than he is to get back on the field. We've had no reporting about that at all.

I said this before and a lot of people disagreed with me: I don't think Terry's overall reputation took that big a hit. The general narrative nationally was "pay him" most casual fans of the team aren't nearly engaged enough to know what he was asking for or how sulky he was. They just know he's been the best player on the team until last year.

I think his reputation took a hit with more hardcore and educated fans. But if/when his name gets announced, he will have the second largest cheer of all the players on our team next to Daniels.
 
what we see playing out is exactly what the team was worried about.. and was proven right. At 30 he is much more prone to being injured and past inj history is not an indication of future health. Now is he playing this up a bit.. possibly, although it would be incredibly stupid because any future team will wonder the same. Then again Terry already showed his spots.. so it wouldn't shock me.
 
Yep Terry the whole if you are 30 and over you are more inclined to get hurt and the production declines is nonsense because you are built differently and Peters is insulting to suggest otherwise
