The All Things Terry Thread

When Terry said he didn't want to "reset the market" I believed him. I also grew to believe that he meant he wasn't looking to break the receiver payday record, but that he wanted to match it.

He wanted his salary to equal the top in the biz. The team wanted to pay him good/premium rate.

the deal is done. I think we can stop stewing on these rumors and wait for the concrete numbers to come out. y'all continuing to work yourselves up for no reason.

I was just having fun with it, I am very excited and have moved on from what came before and am just pumped that Deebo and Terry will be on the field together with no asterisks or dark clouds. I think the period of time to get excited about that prospect from when Deebo was signed to when it became clear there was a Terry issue was vanishingly brief. Tunsil and Deebo can fundamentally supercharge last years offense and now we can look forward to it, no strings attached.

I personally don’t think throwing a Hall of Famer out there as the bellwether is probably all that valid, lol…

Especially since plenty of other HOF level talents fall to the age monster around then as well. So even among HOF guys (which Terry is not) that cliff is still very real

I love how there's always someone who comes into a thread and says "You guys should stop talking about what this thread is about"

You should probably stop talking about people needing to stop talking about things that they should stop talking about.... or something like that 😉

Equally delusional to offer him less than 25M…

Don’t both sides this shit man. $24M gives room to make concessions and end up at the generous $28M spot. It was also what his closest age/production company Sutton got (Terry is better). $40M is so flat out insane you can’t even really engage with it. It’s 20% more than the appropriate starting range.

The question is not this year, it’s 2-3 years down the road.

Right now I think Terry is the clear answer.

In 2 years? That’s more up in the air
A player like DK lives on his athleticism. In 2-3 years down the road he'll be less athletic and the flaws in his game will be even more pronounced. He'll be far more hampered by losing a step than Terry.

Eh. Maybe. He will just be turning 30, so it's unclear if his decline would have started, and Terry would be turning 33.

That's a pretty big difference in WR aging.

I didn't say stop talking. I said you guys can stop stewing and getting re-agitated by the same rumors we've basically heard and debated about the entire time. if getting your blood pressure up makes you feel alive, be my guest.

I just checked Spotrac, and the details are not up yet.

I actually think this deal is actually more of a 1 year extension with a lot of fake stuff after that. I'm interested to see how close my guess is to the truth when it comes out:

  1. $30m signing bonus
  2. Guarantee this year's salary
  3. $1m Salary for 2026.
  4. That means the $30m signing bonus is essentially Terry's salary for next year up front, which would be the franchise tag amount of $28m + $2m.
  5. If they guaranteed this year at $18m + next year at $1m + Signing Bonus of $30m, that gets you to $48m guaranteed.
  6. I think they guarantee $10m of is 2027 salary, or something like that to get him to $60m total guarantees, but all guarantees essentially run out after 2 years and they should have an easy exit ramp after 20206.

MAYBE the exit ramp is after 2027. But I think it's 2026. DK's exit ramp is after 2 years.

This is what how I interpreted Breer’s interview yesterday if reading through the lines a bit. Could be wrong. Hope not.

Wouldn’t that mean a $15M dead cap hit? My money (both of my cents worth) is on an after 2027 exit.
