AP has a track record of getting contracts that feature splashy headlines but once the details are sorted out, they end up looking a lot more team friendly than originally realized. I am thinking the contract was agreed to because it is going to give Terry a lot of the guaranteed money he was after sooner rather than later and after two seasons it is structured in such a way that gives both sides to re-visit the terms. Don't think for one second that just because Terry got what he wanted in the short term, that AP didn't work hard to make sure the team is protected for when Terry is hitting the third year of the contract at 33ish years old. It doesn't mean he won't see the entire life of the contract as a Commander, but the nature of the business suggests this contract will have a lot of wiggle room to lessen the blow after the first couple seasons.

He has a track record of splashy headlines? Who? I mean, he's only been here for 2 off-seasons and we don't really have any splashy signings, and he even said he wasn't directly involved in the contract negotiations in SF, he said he had awareness and was close to them, but he certainly wasn't running them...
 
Perhaps AP does not have the direct history implied earlier but I do agree with every word of that post. This headline is for the agent, I too expect when the curtain is pulled back the deal will look a lot more team friendly by year 3. "Up to $96 million" can mean any number of things, most likely he will never see that figure.
 
Sheehan just kicked in with what he heard. Terry wanted according to what he heard north of 35 million (#2 piad receiver) and 80 million guaranteed.

North of $35m/year and $80m guaranteed is nutso. A 30 year old very good but never elite WR wanted more than a 26 year old who is quite possibly the best receiver in the NFL.

I personally don’t think throwing a Hall of Famer out there as the bellwether is probably all that valid, lol…
 
My expectation:

1) We already know the AAV (fake numbers) are close enough to DK which has been reported ad nauseum that’s what he (or his agent) were after.

2) I expect his total guaranteed amount will surpass (even if just slightly) the $60M that DK got offsetting the “losing” of the AAV battle but actually making it a better contract for Terry and the team than DK/Steelers.

3) I also expect with the $30M signing bonus that the remaining $30M+ of guarantees will mostly be done by the end of the first year of the extension, and definitely complete by the 2nd year (with the exception of any proration with signing bonus).

4) All that considered, I expect this is, at most, a 2 year extension through 2027 that allows the team to cut ties after (similar to Jon Allen) with no guaranteed money after 2027. Conversely, it allows Terry to renegotiate a deal during that same timeframe.

5) Ultimately, I think this is a win-win where Terry gets a big chunk of change, a PR win for some of the number values while still being team friendly on the last couple years if there is a decline.

When details come out I expect this to look more like a 2-year/$61-65M (guarantees) extension.

She also said McLaurin wasn't going to get more than 30 APY and that the team caved, but we don't know the actual APY is yet do we?
 
Hartman is Hartman, we knew he stunk before preseason started :)
