The All Things Terry Thread

Breer was on Grant and Danny. The way he’s phrasing things, it sounds like this might be a tear up existing deal and replace. He doesn’t have the details yet but he’s essentially saying this year and most of next year are probably guaranteed and then we’ll see what it looks like in age 32 year. He’s making it seem though there would be no 4th year.

FWIW he’s been pretty on the nose of the temper of this thing throughout.

I would LOVE it if we did replace his current year completely. If the three years are age 30, 31, and 32, and the last one is easy to move on from, it’s a masterclass from AP.
I initially wondered the same thing, but when I saw how spotrac interpreted it I felt better. They could be wrong, but they list it as 3 additional years under contract after 2025, being a ufa in 2029.

Hmmm guess we will find out here in a bit.

I would take DK over Terry every day of the week and twice on Sundays.
DK runs sloppy/lazy routes and relies on his physicality. I’d take Terry every day over him. And three times on Sundays.

DK will make plays Terry just can’t and occasionally take over a game. But overall Terry shows up every down not just when the mood takes him.

The question is not this year, it’s 2-3 years down the road.

Right now I think Terry is the clear answer.

In 2 years? That’s more up in the air

For sure. Which is why when we get the details I think this will be essentially a two year $60M deal and then ‘we will see’

For everyone saying "you can't overlook his diva behavior..." Please.
Riggins demanded more money and took a year off when he didn't get it. Did anyone care about that on 4th and one? Is anybody still mad at him? Has Terry ever come to team meetings so hungover that he fell asleep and pissed himself?
So many WRs around the league have been truly horrible, cancerous divas - Antonio Brown, OBJ, TO et al. Everyone needs a little perspective.

Yeah most knowledgible fans, like we have here, understand Terry was simply trying to maximize his last big deal. I too am very interested in the real numbers, "up to $96 million", well we know what that means.

If he lives up to the contract, sure.

If he comes out rusty and the connection with Jayden is off to start the season, no.

Glad for both sides. SuperBowl in the aperture. Terry gets paid, AP is a real GM. Fans will keep arguing because it’s fun and we have nothing else to do…

Turning the page, I’m excited to see this offense. Jayden in year 2, upgraded O-line, Deebo opposite Scary Terry, Ertz, Eckler and Wild Bill… yes please!

Terry had a connection with Taylor Hankie from day one. I think he'll be fine shaking off any rust with JD5
Hienicke didn't have a connection with anybody. He threw his lame duck murder balls late and Terry was the only one good enough to catch them.

I question whether he's the starter or not. They're not saying. They are insinuating the reason he didn't play on Saturday is his shoulder is banged up, or he would have played.

So I can't quite get a read on who's going to start week 1 yet. I honesty don't care that much. I'd like it to be Bill, I think he offers more explosiveness than CRod. But they might use the power/toughness of CRod and then the explosiveness of Ekler, and Bill could be the rotational backup guy.

I could see this playing out in multiple ways, and they aren't really saying what they are going to do. Which, I applaud. No reason to tip off the Giants.=

I think because CRod put in the work to get in shape and work his way onto the team after a poor offseason last year, he’ll be rewarded with the technical starting spot at first. JCM will have the chance for plenty of touches and to take the job, but CRod will get first swing to reward his hard work. This is gonna be a gross RBBC for fantasy purposes, with the high leverage touches going to Ekeler when healthy imo. But JCM has the chance to break out and change the equation

Any contract details out yet?

I heard 30m signing bonus, but that's it.

In his age 31/32 season Art Monk had 86 catches, 1186 yards and 8 touchdowns and made the pro bowl.

Not everyone declines at the same rate. Cliff Branch who ran a 4.3 back in the 1970's and 80's was productive in the league at 35.

Plenty of exceptions to the rule. Only problem is there is no known way to predict who the exceptions will be, that’s why paying guys that age is scary. There’s no way to know, we just have to hope Terry is one of the exceptions

I don't actually think you're entirely right on this.

Schefter, Rap and Rossini all said about the same thing about Terry's ask, that he was asking for DK money. And very importantly, none of them credited the other, so it wasn't just "pick it up and use it." Also, they were careful with their phrasing, they clearly had heard it from somewhere, not just "guessing."

And even more importantly, nobody contradicted it. If that wasn't the ask, Terry's side would have contradicted it immediately somehow.

Almost all of the folks I listen to + Sheehan (who I think I heard say this through skinsinparadise because I no longer listen to him) said it was clear the team put that information out there. My list includes Galdi and Bram.

So, while it's impossible to know for 100% certain, I think it's fair to assume the team wanted people to know what Terry was asking for. And it got reported in the national media, and was never contradicted.

Sheehan said he has heard last week (he doubled down on this today) that this FO had just about had it with Terry and Terry's team.

I'l add Keim to the mix. Just listened to today's podcast. He said he heard Terry wanted north of the Metcalf deal. Keim also used the word "definitely" which is a strong word for him. He is super conservative as to sharing gossip so if he heard this I'd trust it.

He also said wait to the contract comes out. He suspects the defacto figues might end up closer to 29 million, but that was a guess on his end.

He also said he heard this was the final offer given to Terry from the FO -- a take it or leave it one.

And it was less than what Terry wanted. And more then what this FO wanted to give so in essense a typical negotiation.

Maybe. But if they think Bill is more explosive, they might stick him in on first and second downs, Ekler on this downs and known passing situations (second and long?) CRod as short yardage and backup reps.

Who knows. We’ll find out in a couple of weeks.
