The All Things Terry Thread

Thrilled this is behind us. I honestly stayed away from commenting on this thread. Business aside, too many people here have deaminized the guy for my taste. I can't fathom how a guy that has been a true pro, productive, and often clutch for us, can be seen as just a greedy piece of shit for wanting to get as much as he can from the team he's dedicated his career to. Just my opinion...

I gotta say, I’m really glad I stayed out of this thread until now lol…sounds like it was quite the echo chamber in here over the last 100 pages.

Pretty arrogant thing to say. Sometimes a rational bunch of people can just agree on something, doesn’t make it an echo chamber.

Edit: am I misreading your tone here? Most people use the term “echo chamber” to derisively describe group thought that they disagree with. It seems some are more charitably interpreting your comment as describing the circular nature of the conversation. If so, alright, can’t disagree with that!

I don’t see it as arrogant at all. (Maybe that in and of itself is arrogant though.)

2000+ posts that mostly ended up being regurgitations of thoughts posted over and over and over again.

Why does a player give a shit what the deal looks like?
why do people get "quick-release" racing steering wheels for their cars when their transmission is shot? optics. i also think, part of it, is the agent and making their clients feel like they did their job.

Thats so they can get out quick if the car is on fire.

This is essentially the deal I was expecting. Happy this is behind us. Given how much Terry has put up with from Snyder's disgracefulness to all the lousy pre-JD QBs, I think people need to cut him some slack for pushing for one last big payday.

I was oddly obsessed with this thread and was part of the echo chamber.

I'm not sure why.

I need to see a therapist.
We're still Redskins fans after thirty years of what Snyder put us through. Ain't one of us who don't need therapy.

Given another couple of weeks we would have collectively written Hamlet. Or at least the plot outline …

I agree. I think for some his image is going to be tarnished forever.

For others, I don't think they will know or care the details and will just keep buying #17 jerseys.

I think for others, Terry has MORE than earned the benefit of the doubt and has not done nearly enough this offseason to destroy everything he’s done for—and been to—this franchise over the last 6 years.

How long do they let Terry victory lap before they leak the real deal?

We are just emotional. If people can use that excuse to defend Terry -- why doesn't it apply to us?

it's okay. we were, in certain aspects, on opposite ends of this drama. i would've preferred if things didn't happen the way it did too. it's over. now it's time to hold terry's feet to the fire and he'd better produce. these are just superficial/ego numbers, right now, and i'm confident AP didn't really pay 31-32 mil per year. even i, as a terry defender, thinks that would be stupid. i trust AP made the real numbers make sense. either way...let's beat the giants week 1. please!

Yeah if that’s what he meant by “echo chamber” then that’s impossible to disagree with. I read it in the way I usually see the term used, which is to negatively describe a group of people in a bubble forming dumb opinions among themselves lol. If that wasn’t what he meant then I didn’t react accordingly. I edited my post to reflect that!

I don't think it was so much that people thought he was a greedy piece of shit (though maybe a bit delusional, if some of the reports are to be believed), but more that his behavior was petulant and firmly planted in diva territory. In his public comments he came off as whiny and immature. And he apparently never saw the irony in acting that way while simultaneously saying that he essentially deserved more money for being such an awesome guy.

Though I don't think we should necessarily be surprised, because he more or less acted the same way during his first contract extension negotiation. But we sort of forget that because it was over relatively quickly, since Dan apparently stepped in and told the FO to pay Terry whatever he was asking for.

I think it's perfectly reasonable to always assume the worst when it comes to Califan007

:movefast:

Also, your perspective on Terry and Peter’s would probably change a bit if you immersed yourself in the Micah-Jerry-Cowboys debacle for the last month or so like I did lol…compared to that, the Mclaurin/Peters issue was like they were arguing over which fork you’re supposed to use at a fancy dinner party.
