The All Things Terry Thread

The tweet says "with upside can earn up to 96 million". Screams incentive laden which is logical. If he thinks he has no problem being productive in his 30s then he shouldnt be afraid of incentives.

It actually says with upside can earn OVER 96 million, not up to 96 million…makes it sound more like the “upside” would make him match or exceed Metcalf’s $33M/year but is rooted in $32M that doesn’t need upside to receive.

My guess would be as someone else mentioned, a heavily backloaded contract in year 3 with the ability to part ways with Terry after year 2 so it never becomes due…right in time to pay Daniels.

Ive never understood this.

Why does a player give a shit what the deal looks like?

If i was asking my boss for a raise and he was like no we cant give you the raise you want but here's what we'll do. We'll give you half that and we'll tell everybody you got all you wanted and more but actually they'll get the truth in a couple days, how's that sound?

I'd be like ummm ya no thanks.

I guess vanity is important to some people but ive always wondered why its so important for them to see this large number on paper when everybody is going to know the true deal in a few days anyway.
Yeah, but DKs deal is heavily backloaded to make his APY 33m, but no one really has talked about it. Everyone is talking about DK making 33m APY so it kind of works.

My other thought on this is why in the name of all that is holy did this take so long to get to? Literally NOTHING changed from the day after season was over until now.

I'm guessing, and we'll see when the details come out in the next couple days, but I'm guessing Terry finally saw reason. I wish he had seen reason earlier.

As you know, Reason is my last name.

Absolutely. So to the post of do we feel better about Terry now? I don't. I don't hate the dude. I never did. But I don't like him (the personality) the same way.

He was a distraction this off season and it might factor into the beginning of the season. We got two games coming up fast. they might have to slow play him in both to avoid a soft tissue injury.

It'll prob turn out to be a 2 year deal with a large chunk of the money in the 3rd year that he's never going to see. So he's likely gone after 2027.

Me, too as to the backloaded part. That's how Metcalf's contract is structured ironically.

Let's just say Ill be wearing my Kerrigan jersey all year and not touching my Terry one.

Awesome!! I was never worried. The whole hold out, whine, complain, claim disrespect, and ask for a trade act is just standard negotiating procedure these days in the NFL. I’m continuing to give Terry the benefit of the doubt that it was all an act, and the real Terry is the hard-working, non-diva professional we’ve come to know the last several years.

John Keim did say, and highlight, up to. So we will see which verbiage is more accurate.

Oh I see now as to the "insiders" getting it wrong. Schefter said this morning they aren't close to a deal.

The locals though seemed confident that it will get done though simply because the time was up.

As for Schefter, that is a rare miss from him. But I was expecting either a deal very soon or Terry would have to play on the current contract. As Sheehan though loved to say including this morning, Terry needs to get a deal now because next year it would be harder not easier to get one.

I just got a text message from a family member that said Terry just signed a 3 or 4 year deal for $117. The internet has no clue about this signing and I reckon neither does the person that sent me the message. Got my hopes up darn it.
Looks like another Facebook guess, no source listed from Redskins Nation...

It’s the top 5, which would be:

  • 1. Cincinnati Bengals WR Ja'Marr Chase: $40.25 million
  • 2. Minnesota Vikings WR Justin Jefferson: $35 million
  • 3. Dallas Cowboys WR CeeDee Lamb: $34 million
  • 4. Pittsburgh Steelers WR D.K. Metcalf: $32.99 million
  • 5. Philadelphia Eagles WR A.J. Brown: $32 million
So yeah, the franchise tag could be in the $30s.

If people ar esaying 4 year 117 deal that makes sense. His cap hit for this upcoming year is 25 million, then he signed a 3 year 92 million dollar extension 3+1=4, 92 million +25 million equals 117 million. It looks like people are just adding on the last year of the current contract..

Glad it’s done and I suspect that ‘up to’ is doing a lot of work in getting the headline number to $96M. Be interesting to see what the breakdown is for guarantees and how many years this deal is really for.

But the important thing is he’s back and we can start to focus on real football!

Taking some time for the details to leak but that's common

Glad to see this done. Time to mend some fences and raise hail.

Strangely, this is very close to the numbers I guessed at a month ago. I wonder how much of it is guarenteed and how much no one expects him to ever see?

This is a reasonable, non-emotional, assessment of the how the process works.

Preseason games happened lol…maybe Quinn and Kingsbury talked with Peters and said “this ain’t gonna work without him.” Or maybe Harris pulled Peters into his office. Or maybe this was the plan all along, wait till right before cutdown day, call around and get a feel of a decent-enough WR could be had, then bring out an offer that was in Peters’ back pocket the entire time. Or maybe Peters wanted to see just how much he actually could get for Terry in a trade in case some team was willing to fork over an offer too good to turn down. Or maybe this was Peters’ offer all along and Terry finally caved and came down from his $67M/year demands lol…

Yeah I'm very happy that a deal got done, but I also won't ever see Terry in the same way again (not that he gives a crap). He acted like a petulant diva throughout the process and basically showed his ass while proclaiming that he should get more money for being such a great guy. To me he's no longer a cultural cornerstone of the team, just a good player we brought back.

I also am curious what the full details of the deal will be. The initial rollout and announcement is a chance for the agent and Terry to save face by leaking the entirety of what he could possibly earn, without people being able to nitpick over how much of it is actually backloaded and he may very well not even see.

Because materially anyone rational would agree that there isn’t much difference in your life between $28M/yr and $32M/yr. But if you’re a prick who wants to puff up your chest about being paid among the best to show you’re considered among the best, then the perception of the deal is almost more important than the actual deal, reputationally.

It has no real life equivalent because we don’t live in the same world as these guys at these wealth levels
