But they won't get anything, this isn't about value its a power move to send a message to the player and any future player who may try the same stunt.

No way any team is taking on that contract.

The only way a trade could be pulled off is if ayuik agrees to a restructure, which is possible but it'll probably get real ugly first.

Yeah to that point, my one criticism of Peters on this front is he didn't hide in his press conference that he'd be into signing Aiyuk with all of the his personality checks out fine with him. Between that and the leaks that this team is interested, I don't blame the 49ers to be annoyed that Aiyuk has sort ot got himself out of his contract so he can play with his BFF.

I'm glad CRod found a good deal. He was a tough runner and glad he's getting to cash in a bit. Tender would have only been 3.5M so he's beating that nicely.

To counter that, Lynch publicly stated Aiyuk won’t play another down for them. Not a great look to let him rot for long.

That’s not true. I don’t have it on front of me but he is a highly effective runner on a down to down basis. He’s averaged 4.6 ypc without the home run type of runs inflating this number

He also lacks as a pass catcher but he certainly checks the box as a rusher and pass protector

The fact that we could replace Brian Robinson with a 6th round pick who was on the bubble in his first camp and then was just as good or better just shows how easy it is to acquire a RB like Rodriguess or Robinson.

I have to get to watching Cross.

As for Downs he can do it all. including playng free safety. I don't put him in a box. With Flores scheme the way I understand if I am right, the safeties interchange. 2 deep and then one, it changes which one, sometimes charges closer to the box.

Downs seems like the perfect chess piece for Daronte scheme. He would really open up the flexibility and disguise that Daronte wants to do here. One of the vikings beat reporters said Harrison Smith was one of the most important positions in Flores' defenses. We don't have that guy here quite yet.

What I love about Downs is he would be the true leader and foundational piece for us to build a defense around. This is often overlooked but with Bobby potentially gone, we lack a true alpha leader. Our best is probably Payne and he's likely gone next year. Downs is the guy who will make every other position player better and help mitigate our lack of defensive talent.

I would be stoked if we are able to land him here.

I like the idea of bringing Diggs to DC and seeing if DQ can bounce back his career again here. I feel better about our pass rush situation to take on a guy like Diggs who can be a playmaker for us.

I cant remember through all the madness of this thread, but you're not a Jennings fan?

Nobody's trading for Aiyuk they're just punishing him for his antics by delaying his release during FA period when teams are spending the most money. Works out fine for us bc we can see how the rest of FA and draft plays out then get him on a prove-it deal whenever he's available. Maybe we save a couple bucks on the contract if we have other guys in the room by then.

Kind of dirty by SF but he did them dirty too so oh well

My only issue with the 49’era hanging on to Aiyuk, is that they voided his guarantees, and he could have contested that, but didn’t. It was reported to be something of an understanding/handshake deal that they’d just release him.
