The 2026 Free Agency Thread

I hate this stupid narrative that seems to float here without any backing:
1. Ayuk stinks - he has been one of the top receivers in the NFL when healthy the last few years
2. he is a cancer - dumb narrative as every player on the niners seems to only have good things to say and Peters does as well. His issue was ONLY with the Niners Org (shit happens, we dont really know what happened under the scenes. We all had shitty bosses before, and sometimes need a change)
3. bringing him here is a mistake - hows is bringing a young stud receiver here on the cheap is a mistake? esp watching WR scrubs get paid mad cash this offseason

Ill take it a step farther... it would be incredibly stupid for Peters NOT to bring Ayuik here if we are his first choice. (assuming he is on track health wise) and i will be extremely disappointed if he is not here next season . Ability to sign a very good WR on the cheap with basically no downside comes along once in a blue moon.. take advantage!

I'd love it. :). But so many draftniks don't think he makes it to 7, that I don't see how they can make him a target.

The only often mentioned first rounders that I think almost for sure will be at 7 are Downs and Bain.
I wouldn’t totally rule out Giants taking Downs. Harbaugh loves him some Ed Reed types.

The Aiyuk dislike is odd. I’m not exactly dancing on rooftops hoping for him but he’s better than every receiver we’ve had the last few years aside from McLaurin and Deebo (and that depends on the week).

Exactly. If he doesn't work out on a 1 year prove it deal, he doesn't work out. Juice is absolutely worth the squeeze here

You mean everyone in the SF building was smiling and thought well of Aiyuk not communicating with the team over his rehab and generally being dismissive of how his team was performing on the field during the season?

And this was after he got paid.

Must be a different culture in SF these days.

Downs, to me, isn’t at all Ed Reed except for the brain.

But I guess this is a draft thread convo.

Here let me make this about FA: no safeties on the radar. :(

Plus, he already told the media that he's drafting Downs. And Styles. And Love. And Tate....

One year prove it, with his best friend. His agent I would guess isn't an idiot. Terry could be let go next season and if Aiyuk kills it, he can get a bigger contract here and play out his career with his pal.

I was worried about his knee but keep reading it is ok, but will see.

Would have liked him to be signed to a 2 or more year deal. Take what we can get, I guess. Shorter deals 1 to 3 year deals are more common now. Glad we got Oweh on a 4 year deal. Hendrickson finally got paid and glad to see it.

I am feeling more and more that Love is out draft target. He is a legit threat in the passing game as well as a runner. He can line up in the slot and catch the ball a ton.
It depends on just how much the devaluation of running backs in the nfl has come back around.

Bijan Robinson was a slightly better prospect than love is and he went 8th but I think the position has become a little more valued since then.

Obviously we're nowhere near where we were in the 80s and 90s but I think teams are seeing more value in elite production in the backfield than they did 20 years ago.

I wanted to see Dallas sign Hendrickson and really screw up their cap for the next 3-5 years.

The other thing to look at is Bijan had more premium talent in his class. But to make this about FA… White would be a good “just in case, but please don’t wind up being our top back” option

Here's the other thing with Aiyuk. We've never been the team that has lucked out into being the destination for a situation like this. It's always been one of the "elite" franchises.
Or the Raiders. They are usually in the mix for any player that has gotten in trouble or had issues with his previous team or the law.

Closest maybe was the fallout with the Eagles and Desean Jackson, but his pay was still good.
