you could argue there is a track record that the better teams tend to shy away from them. Philly puts up with Brown, but KC shipped off Hill, Buffalo shipped off Diggs, Green Bay moved on from Adams.
It's clearly not everybody, i'm not stating that there's only one way... but there has been a trend of teams not continuing with premium, high priced WRs.
Of course there is a cost factor when you're paying your starting QB that likely pushes a good number out because they want top of the market money, but Philly and Cincinnati find ways to pay at the position so there's data points in both directions.
