The 2026 Draft Thread - 1st Round - 7th overall

I liked the Newton pick at the time. I was fine with the injury, they heal and it let a higher rated prospect fall to them. It was just a miss and it happens every draft.
Yeah I like rounders to be available for the whole off and pre season events so they are up to snuff come the beginning of the season. I'd be willing to take a chance with later picks if the right scenario arose. There were some really good players at need positions we could have grabbed. At the end of the day, neither of these guys are really starters and that's what sucks

Think we are now positioned to truly go BPA.

Good job by the FO to get things done!

If this doesn’t scream 2nd rounder I don’t know what does-

I recall the Sinnott pick being almost exclusively loved at the time.

I was willing to give it the benefit of the doubt. I typically do. On ES I did a long assesement of TEs most years including that one -- I recall I had him as a third rounder. I liked him, didn't love him and my complaint about him was he wasn't a good seperator. I was two rounds two early. I graded McCaffrey as a 6th rounder. IMO I was slightly wrong about him, to me he's a 4th round type talent, he hasn't blown me away but he's better than a 6th.

I recall most on ES were pretty stocked with the Sinnott pick on day two, granted a round early perhaps.

Hasn’t kicked on, making the ‘reach’ appear greater.

I'll freely say I loved the Sinnot pick. I saw him do really good things for Kansas State, I knew he had great hands and was productive, and then he blew away the combine.

It seems to me it has become clear that Sinnot....how do I say this nicely...is lacking something between the ears. He just has not picked up the nuances of how to play NFL TE. How to attack a zone, etc. Coaches comments and the lack of targets from Jayden reveal they don't trust him to be in the right place.

That lack of football intelligence is not something we as fans can pick up on well from game tape or combine stats. We don't get to sit in on interviews. Unlike some others here, I'm not someone on here trying to establish a scouting resume, so I have no problem admitting I was way off.

If 10 people post that Tate is a really good WR prospect, but BayouBrave posts 10 times that he is not, each post more emphatic, does it mean he's just an average WR prospect?

He's a one man hating Tate machine. :) But looks like he has one helper. But lol I do think he's speaking it into existence. If we get another 50 posts or so more about how Tate isn't it, I think I am going to buy that Tate jersey even before the draft --feels like he's just making it happen.

It might be. The lesson for me is if a dude doesn't seperate well, as I expressed on ES, that's a big red flag. I saw him as a YAC guy and a good blocker. All of that was correct. But the seperation skills have doomed him IMO.

I loved Laporta before the draft, if I recall he was a year before that, and I recall being blown away by his seperation skills and Sinnott is no Laporta. But it should have been a much bigger point of emphasis from me.

But I am not judging Peters based on what we think here. We are watching these players on youtube clips. they are interviewing the players, watching them in person, interviewing their coaches on and on. They should be able to do better than we do here.

It's one big disadvantage we have, these guy dive so deep into their personalities, interview person after person about said player. The makeup is so critical to success.

That's why the rare times when a players intangibles are so hyped that even fans like us have a sense that these guys have the drive and the right personality -- Terry was one of those examples for me, I read so many things about him that indicated he's a special dude.

In this class, Downs, Tate, Styles, Love seem to have that profile, as to being workaholic, smart, driven people.

Yep his blocking was certainly a stand out.

I mean, I think I’m remembering correctly, but Sinnott was a ‘commander tag’ draftee. Feels like he should be excelling by now.

The issue with being this way is its kind of easy to look back and see who didn't have the production in college and who didn't have the NFL level physical measurables, and point out one of the two was missing so what did you expect but failure? Meanwhile, if they had both, then they're a first rounder and the discussion isn't happening. 🤷‍♂️

Yeah. I am guessing that was because of his movement skills combined with his blocking. Not a lot of college TEs these days are great blockers. But they were wrong. Peters said he learns more from his mistakes. I can see that to some extent in this off season. So maybe he learns from his dud 2nd round picks.

Johnny Newton -- lesson? Undersized DT who relied on his quickness, yet needed surgery on both of his feet. In the future take that injury seriously? Especially in the context of an undersized DT who relies on quickness.

Ben Sinnott -- if an idiot like me can see he doesn't seperate well, so should they. Seperation skills clearly matter a lot. And it feels like the missed on his personality. I hear he's a good guy but hard for me to imagine he's that driven if he struggles to be at the right spot in games.

Sainristil -- baller, but undersized. So he can be bullied. And doesn't have ideal size for outside corner.

And they bypass Cooper Dejean who looks carved out of stone to play the secondary -- size, athleticism, with a reputation for wanting to be great.

I think DQ was equally as culpable with that one. Fell in love with Sainristil.

Not buying that. If production isn’t good in college with exceptional athletic measurables…why would one expect that to be different against professional competition?

I have not considered Sinnott a failure (yet), just a disappointment. Maybe that is primarily due to Kingsbury. If he doesn’t exhibit a jump in productivity this coming season then it’s on the player or the evaluator.

Speaking of ES? I told a certain OCD controlling mod to go fuck himself and boom I was gone! Intentionally.

I'm so happy for this board you don't know. Thanks to all of the owners and people who started it, as well as all the people that migrated over here. The knowledge intelligence and experience that I see on threads like this are far superior to mine.

Much love y'all ❤️

I guess I’m weird. I kinda got along with everyone from both forums in the ownership/mod groups. I know some things happened between both sets, but I wasn’t involved. *shrug*

Anyways, ES is dead.

As far as round 1 draft goes, I’m interested how the back half of the round shakes out. Not that it matters much for us without our 2. But i might have a slight second of regret if a guy like Germie is there at r2p7. But I’ll get over it. Because Tunsil
