I probably watch more college than most of this board lol, I’ve seen plenty of Ohio State. Tate isn’t a WR1. Again, I’m asking when is the last time a WR in his situation has gone top 10? Let alone the first round. It doesn’t happen. And with all of the holes this team has, they don’t need to be using the 7th overall on a player who has never been asked to be a WR1 in their career. I’m not trying to get into an online fight here. Im just trying to point out that clear cut WR2s don’t go top 10. We could find a WR in the later rounds that could probably make as much of an impact as Tate. I really hope we don’t draft him and then can look at how he does on another team. Nothing about Tate is elite. Unless you’re an Ohio State fan, I can’t understand you wanting to take Tate at 7. He doesn’t show up in big games and he was matched against the CB2. Let’s see his catch ability matched up against elite CBs.
I watch plenty of college ball, go to a game or two live almost every year. But watching a game in real time and actually studying a player are different things unless you elect to mostly focus on a player or two. I did that once at an Alabama-Michigan game where I decided to watch McKinney closely and being at that game I could see what he was doing pre snap-post snap. That was revealing. But if I am just watching everything I just get glimpses of this or that player.
Heck even watching Washington, like everyone here I watch every snap, go to 3 games or so live, etc. For me to zone in i have to watch coaches tape-all 22 after if I want to expound hard on something super specific.
Heck and I am of course an amateur at it. And even coaches, the actual professionals often say they have to rewatch after the game to really have a strong sense of how this or that player played.
So yeah its cool that you watch a lot of college football, too. But I don't trust you, or myself, or anyone here to go for an evaluatiion without actually watching the player, just the player, not the whole game.
If you feel comfortable assessing players that way, that's cool, to each their own. But I trust those who actually watch closely. And they don't have to match my opinion. I wasn't sure about Bain for example but I know KDawg put in a lot of time watching him, so heck I'll at least pause before I say for sure I don't want him considering my opinion often aligns with many of his takes. But its more about I know he's not coming in with a hard opinion purely based on casual watching during the college season and narratives alone.
If I love or really don't like a player, its after diving in. Doesn't make me right or wrong, but its how I like to do it, and I know some others here do the same.
