The 2026 Draft Thread - 1st Round - 7th overall

The Love hype will die down, just like it will for Styles.

That said, if it doesn't, Love could go anywhere after pick 1.

They hype is mostly for our benefit, there’s a whole media cottage industry around the draft that thrives off hype. The teams will think what they think, and have probably had those thoughts fairly locked in for a couple months now minus adjustments for new information.

OL official size measurements are in.

Fano isn't going Top 6 anymore...well Will Campbell did last year but he was notably destroyed in the playoffs.

Mauigoa's arm length is a little short for OT but not too bad. He can make it work still.

Markel Bell's wingspan is over 87 inches? Daaaaamn.
Bell is gigantic. And hes a killer in the run game. But he is slow footed in the pass game. He got eaten alive in the Natty.

Jalen Farmer vs Florida – Thoughts
(Kentucky Guard)

Pass Blocking: I watched the full Florida game and came away thinking Farmer is a sturdy, dependable pass protector with some clear athletic limitations. The biggest concern is that he has heavy feet. He does not have the foot speed to consistently mirror an explosive interior rusher in space. If a twitchy defensive tackle gets room to work laterally, Farmer can get stressed. That said, he is not out of control. There were no true full-redirect reps in this game where he had to completely change direction after committing his weight, but on partial redirects (against stunts) he stayed balanced and under control. His balance helps compensate for the lack of elite foot speed.

Where he really shines is anchor. He does play a bit upright at times, but he has a massive lower half and a ton of natural core strength. Even when his pads are a little high, his center of gravity stays naturally low because of his build. It is hard to beat him through the chest. He absorbs power well and does not give up much ground. His hand placement is solid and his grip strength stands out. There was a run rep where a defender tried to long-arm him, but Farmer’s grip on the jersey was so strong that the defender could not get extension. That grip strength and hand control show up consistently. He never got beat on stunts, maintained good spacing, and did a good job finding work when uncovered.

Run Blocking: In the run game, he was pretty good overall, though lateral quickness is the main limitation. There were two, maybe three, snaps where a defender crossed his face. That raises some questions about how cleanly he fits in a heavy outside zone system. To be fair, there were also reps where he successfully prevented the cross-face, but it is not effortless for him. He does have an explosive first step when firing forward, though he sometimes dips his head on that initial step, which can affect his balance.

Farmer has real pop when he connects squarely. His hand placement and grip strength allow him to control defenders and prevent them from gaining leverage. He uses his outside hand well, particularly with lower placement to elevate the defender’s pads and raise their center of gravity. He shows good pacing in the run game, hits his landmark, and does not get over-eager. He had about six pulls in this game. The first one did not go well, as the defender slipped underneath him, but after that he connected on essentially all of them. Once he settled in, he looked comfortable moving in space.

Overall Thoughts: Farmer looks like a strong, technically sound guard with a dependable anchor, good awareness, and real functional strength. The athletic ceiling may not be elite because of the heavy feet and average lateral quickness, but he feels like a player who can start and be steady. His game reminds me a bit of Chris Paul in terms of strengths and weaknesses, though Farmer may have slightly better raw tools. I see him as a third- or fourth-round type. He would be good value in the fifth, but I think he probably goes in the third. If you took him at 71, you would be getting a solid player, just not necessarily great value relative to the board.

This is the first third of the video I watched:

I think his measurements and 40 are solidifying him as a day 2 guy. Its very unlikely he makes it to the 5th round.

Just read that there are rumors Caleb Downs has a possible small meniscus tear. Nothing serious or long term and should be ready for the season, but we probably don't see him run or do drills at a pro day either.

Sounds like a good rumor for a team who wants him to fall to start.

It could be true. It could also not be true.

The web weaves.

4.46 or 4.53, I am high on Tate regardless

I think it’s not a cottage industry but the actual industry as a whole.

That’s not my argument. Terry was taken in the 3rd round, not 7th overall.
Then I don't understand your argument? I thought your argument was that number 2 (or worse) receivers in college rarely become number 1 receivers in the pros.

I think all the teams get the medical reports so they would all be tracking it. I assuming it came out of the medical evaluation.

I don’t know how people feel about this comp but I said the other day he reminds me a bit of a thicker Jamaal Charles. The upright but incredibly instinctive and bursty style. And Love might actually be a better receiver

It's a good comp. I was trying to think of a more recent comp that might be fresher in people's minds. I just watched some J. Gibbs to refresh in my mind his style. He is probably a better comp to Love than McCaffrey. Gibbs with more wiggle, Love better in between the tackles. But on the aggregate, similar IMO.

And Love doesn't look like a poor man's version of Gibbs. If you forced me to bet on it, I think he ends up better than Gibbs. And I was super high on Gibbs before the draft.

Possibly. No one is likely to dispute it even if it is fake.

This is the type of thing that being on the outside leaves us out of the loop on.

It’s probably real.

But who knows.

4.53 official time. That fits the eye test. Good speed, not great speed. But great double moves in open field, body control, he doesn't drop anything, soft hands, stems his routes well, high points the ball well, great ball tracking ability.

It's the long ball tracking ability (so few WRs I watch have it) coupled with soft hands that IMO will make him a dangerous WR in the NFL. Long arms-big hands.

The Tate gas lighting is hilarious. Those other 3 were facing the number 1 corners most of the time. Jefferson/Chase were basically 1A and 1B though.

Downs, Styles, or Love please.

My argument was when has a clear #2 in college been taken in the first round? It doesn’t happen. Tate is extremely overrated. Second or third round sure, but not 7 overall. He has no proven track record worthy of a top 10 pick.
And someone mentioned Waddle..Waddle was Bama’s number 1 before he went down with an early season injury in 2020. He had over 550 yards in his first 4 games and was dicing teams up.
But these GMs and scouts overthink it half the time. It’s much worse with QBs. JJ McCarthy and Anthony Richardson come to mind.

He publicly stated in an interview at the combine with Florio & Simms that he would be working out at his OSU pro day.

I know you really really don't like Tate at 7.

But I don't think this is your best angle. Slot WRs aren't always facing the 1 corners (usually the opposite) let alone those slot WRs playing with great outside WRs like those 3 players. IMHO taking this point on weakens your argument versus helps consideing Tate is the one outside WR of the three. But even if that argument worked, to me it would be shrug, its just narrative. I don't get the impression that narrative is the driving force for drafting a player for a number of reasons and among them context can be in the eye of the beholder. I can go nuts with narratives praising or trashing any player in this draft -- name a dude and I'll do it to prove a point.

I am curious if you sat down and watched some of Tate's games? I got an open mind, if someone doesn't like a player, i am curious what is it after they watch a bunch of games. And that sometimes changes my take. But once i watch a player --a narrative won't change my mind. Not saying you need to change my mind. But I doubt you sway people on or off a player with narratives that don't involve dissecting the actual play.

Interesting. If the rumor is true I wonder if that still happens. I am assuming this came out during medicals so he went to the combine not knowing about the injury. I had surgery to repair my meniscus, but I went about a year before getting surgery. I hurt it training for a marathon. Of course until I went to the doctors I didn't know what the injury was. Basically if I stayed off it (no running) it felt fine. So after I first got injured I took maybe two to three weeks off before starting running. And when I first starting running again and my mileage was low (like 15 miles a week) it felt fine. But as soon as I started ramping up the mileage back up to like 30 miles a week the pain came back. I imagine he knew he had some type of minor knee injury but didn't know exactly what it was.

I probably watch more college than most of this board lol, I’ve seen plenty of Ohio State. Tate isn’t a WR1. Again, I’m asking when is the last time a WR in his situation has gone top 10? Let alone the first round. It doesn’t happen. And with all of the holes this team has, they don’t need to be using the 7th overall on a player who has never been asked to be a WR1 in their career. I’m not trying to get into an online fight here. Im just trying to point out that clear cut WR2s don’t go top 10. We could find a WR in the later rounds that could probably make as much of an impact as Tate. I really hope we don’t draft him and then can look at how he does on another team. Nothing about Tate is elite. Unless you’re an Ohio State fan, I can’t understand you wanting to take Tate at 7. He doesn’t show up in big games and he was matched against the CB2. Let’s see his catch ability matched up against elite CBs.

And after Bain’s short arms, him and Tate are really the only two players we’ve been linked to at 7 that I want no part of. Great with everyone else. And it’s healthy to point out the strengths and weaknesses of all of these players. That’s what this forum is for.
