I had seen earlier they worked out Felton again. Well Edmonds may be decent in pass protection and knows Kliffy so I guess it makes sense.
 
I see comments supporting McCaffrey and Sinnott but they are mostly hopeful rather than realistic based on the play we see on the field.

One poster actually said a couple of pages ago that Sinnott was a very good special teams player. Did we not watch Sinnott miss a block on punt protection in the opener?

No coach that I have heard has complimented Sinnott on being a core teamer for us the way Reaves or Butler are.

As far as McCaffrey goes it’s not his fault he was picked where he was.

At the same time I think late in Round 3 is a little bit early to start taking players that not only have to transition to the NFL but complete transitions to a new position.

Bobby Beathard used to take these guys in the 6th or 7th round.

Most draft bios I read had Luke falling somewhere in the 5th - 6th round as a prospect.

And after seeing his strong measurables but raw skills and limited sophistication at the position I would have waited until the Hampton pick to take him.

Day 3 is all about guys with speed or size or strength that are looking to lock down a position at the NFL level.

Going to need a heavy dose of running backs against the Raiders even if JD plays he probably won't be 100%. Limited reps this preseason by JD and our top receivers and no reps in preseason games for Mariotta in addition to a very limited number during training camp.
If Bates is out that going to really hurt in the run game considering we may have to lean on the run.

The roster spot available now belongs to Jalyn Holmes, another 29 year old from the practice squad.
 
Preston seems like the perfect replacement for Wise.

At least judging by PFF scores, and remembering him playing in Washington, is a good run defender.

Wise for example who this team touted to the media as a big solution to playing the run, didn't have as good PFF run stopping scores, they were mostly meh. And his reputation listening to some of the NE media wasn't that he was some super run stopper. I know he's big for that position and that's their claim for why he will be a big part of the solution.

But at least on paper and somewhat based on rep. I think its an easier sell that Preston is better against the run than Wise.

Wise with 5 sacks, 20 pressures last year. Preston with 5 sacks and 18 pressures according to PFF.

They paid Wise peanuts to sign in FA. I don't get the hype on their end as to how much he solves their issues versus the run, felt weird. At a minimum on paper Preston looks like a dude who can duplicate Wise's production and might be ironically better against the run.

Im curious if he would be an easy replacement schematically though. I don't have All 22 anymore, and frankly i admit I don't have the time to break down film like I used to, but would Prestion be able to do what was asked of Wise? They absolutely have a different body type, and a different skill set. Could Preston play that same role, or is it apples and oranges? I'm genuinely curious.
 
You must jump on the scraps before they too are eaten up! I was always a fan of Preston and was sad to see him leave, he should okay
 
We should have made this signing, or one like it, during camp. And I honestly don't know why we didn't pursue Za'Darius Smith with a little more urgency. Instead, the Eagles swooped in and got him.
 
Let’s recall though that Smith was traded to the Steelers for a #7 round pick and was not offered a contract by Pittsburgh with any guarantees to come back this season at age 32.

It is amazing to look at this roster and even guys on the practice squad (promoted Jalyn Holmes) and see older well travelled vets.

I guess recent signee Tay Martin at 27 is considered one of our younger developmental prospects 🤩

Egg on my face....I didn't realize he had been traded to the Steelers in 2024 and then released this year. Other than that I have followed his career extremely closely. lol
 
Does anyone think we should be less Gay and get the Youngho? I mean should we drop Gay and sign Koo?
 
On the kicker front, if they do eventually bring in another kicker, it needs to be someone that has done well kicking on grass outdoors. Gay spent most of his career kicking in domes on artificial surfaces. His worst year was his rookie year in Tampa, on grass. Kickers I’m sure love kicking on artificial grass and in domes. They get outside and the grass is torn up, wet, soft, divots, not to mention there is wind that swirls you have to deal with. The teams has to find one that is used to kicking in those conditions. Koo isn’t it. He’s kicked indoors most games in his career. Gay is the same way. I’m not writing him off, but I also wouldn’t throw him out for someone like Koo.

Very goof points. I was more making a joke but I was remembering in Fantasy Footblaa a couple years ago Kop was money. But thr indoor thing makes sense a nd looking at Gay and Youngho's stats they are pretty darn identical.
 
NFL insider Ben Standig reports the Commanders are meeting with free agent S Darnell Savage on Monday.
The Commanders’ meeting with Savage comes a day after the team lost safety Will Harris to a fractured fibula. While we don’t yet know the extent of Harris’ injury, the decision to meet with Savage this early suggests he will miss significant time. Savage was released by the Jaguars last week after appearing in the first two games to start the season in a backup role. He’s a seven-year vet with 82 games of starting experience under his belt and could immediately fill a key role if called upon.
