The 2025 Free Agency Thread

I was a big fan of Darnell Savage in the 2019 draft. He was good in coverage and a good tackler. I know he had some good years in Green Bay and went to Jacksonville. Dealt with a number of injuries his last couple years. Is a good player for the team to be checking out

He is signed. That was quick. (Savage) I wonder if there was any interest in Justin Simmons

It's odd to me that we have avoided Simmons. Evidently, there's something about him that turns the FO off. Would've thought he would make sense. But Savage is a good player (albeit the injury e situation) and could potentially help us out 8n a big way. We'll soon find out.

We don’t know the FO has avoided him, all the contact isn’t reported. It turned out we had been in contact with Von Miller since before the draft and nobody directly reported on it. There’s lot of reasons these things do or don’t happen

To double down on this...

It's coming out now that Shaduer Sanders made it known to the Ravens to not draft him because he didn't want to be relegated to a backup / developmental position on the roster... It takes two to tango, and for all we know Simmons doesn't like head coaches that wear their hats backwards so he refuses to sign here. Yes, very tongue in cheek, but we have no idea why they haven't come together. The FO may not be interested. The DBs coach, the HC, who knows. Simmons may not be interested either. A lot of factors.

Agreed. Kind of reminds me of the fan-driven pursuit to sign Domenic Reyes as a UDFA. Some folks were 100% convinced that he was a can't miss sure-fire stud at safety.

My guess on Simmons, based on reporting about his prior free agency demands, is that he and the Commanders are not in the same universe on what constitutes an appropriate contract.

True, but it doesn't answer the question. Simmons, IMO, would have been the better option. But I trust the FO to make these decisions. Just odd that they have avoided him when he's the best option out there.

Simmons would have known our ass is in a sling and probably would have asked for even more than he did during FA. He's waiting it out until some team caves and decides to pony up the massive amount of money he's looking for.

Doubt that. At this point, he's not going to get a massive contract considering he's sitting on the couch watching the games on TV.

My guess is the team has a reason for not signing him. What that is about is beyond our paygrade. But obviously he is not on our radar .

I’m guessing he still thinks he’s owed a good starter’s salary and not an “I was signed off the street after multiple injuries after week 3” salary.

Savage has some wretched coverage grades from PFF for years now. So am guessing he's mostly and in the box safety.
