The 2025 Free Agency Thread

righting is on the wall. it s pretty obvious neither figures in to much of the Offensive game plan.
Mccafrey was in on 5 offensive snaps... 5.. let that sync in. This is after the team took a serious look at Bourne and in his 2nd year in the NFL.
Sinnot played 7 offensive snaps... and this is with Ertz basically being in the catch and fall down TE at this stage. I'd love to see Yankoff get more looks.. but i am worried if Ertz goes down.

If they were drafted late and were deemed major projects... eh ok. But both were drafted pretty high and expected to contribute sooner rather than later.

I don’t know. Luke was picked late in the 3rd round, so not that high, and he converted from QB to WR in college, so he was always going to be a project, but you have to like his pedigree and versatility.

Sinnott has been more of a disappointment given his high draft pick and productivity at Kansas St., but he has been a pretty good special teams player and shown some potential as an all-around tight end, so he is okay as a reserve and developmental player.

If they still haven’t shown anything more by year’s end, then I may change my tune, but they are only entering their second season so I would give it a little more time before declaring either a bust.

I think this is the wrong day to pick on Luke. Sure, he did not show up as a receiver nor did he get many chances, but he had a very nice kickoff return and if he can be an ace returner that spares Deebo or Ekeler reps and hits. That's really a useful role.

Tank is only alright, but it’s clear the Eagles want to maintain an identity if Barkley misses time. They aren’t under any circumstances going to be forced to be a team that lives and dies by Hurts’ arm.

returners are a dime a dozen in the nfl, you can get a really nice one as a udfa. As a 3rd rd wr pick you're expected to contribute heavily as a WR.. if your only contribution is an occasional punt returner... you're a bust.

The vast, vast majority of late 3rd round players bust. So it wouldn’t be a surprise

Eagles just traded multiple draft picks for Tank Bigsby today, reportedly because they feel they need him as a kick returner now that kick returns are important again. Thought that was relevant to the discussion about pick 100 or so being a kick returner

How long has it been since we've had a good returner?

he was traded for exchange of 5th and 6th rd picks... thats a far cry from a 3rd round pick... his is actually a decent rb and will be the main back up to Barkley.

the reason they haven't had a great one is not because they couldn't find one... it was because they could not justify a roster spot for a player thats only good at returning punts, and there were plenty of other player that contributed at multiple positions that could also return punts at a decent level. Even Deven Hester had a hard time finding a team towards the later stage of his career .. even though he was still considered the best punt returner in the game.

Luke’s value is not only as a kick returner, though he can do it well. He averaged almost 30 yards per return last year with a long of 47, did about the same in the playoffs, and again yesterday. And maybe the new kickoff rules do make that more valuable.

He doesn’t get many snaps, but when he does you see him getting open, blocking well, etc., and he has flashed the ability to get YAC. He only had five snaps on offense yesterday, but one of those he had a good block on Deebo’s TD run, so he’s making the most of his limited opportunities.

I also think the fact he played quarterback is a plus because I love a good trick play, but we haven’t seen that yet.

I get he only has 18 catches in his career, but we knew he was a project coming out of Rice and converting to WR. We also knew who his dad and brother are, and if there is any chance he could be half as good as they were, then he is worth developing for a couple years.

Maybe he will be a bust, but I would give it more time.

I dont want to keep beating a dead horse.. but the only reason he is still on the team is because he was a 3rd rd pick and his pedigree.. if he was a 5th rd pick and wasnt named Mccafrey he'd be gone already.
Jaylin Lane... a 4th rd pick, was in on 30% of the snaps. That means the team already views him as more valuable. While Debo also returned a kickoff. Yes, Mccafrey was grossly overdrafted but he was expected to at worst make a 2nd year leap... that obviously hasnt happened in the off season or he would have gotten more opportunities. His name will only keep him around for so long...

I don’t fully agree with this (that he’d be cut as a mid rounder, I of course agree that he’s been a disappointment). You need depth WR’s that play teams units and he does. A 2nd year fifth rounder doing what he’s done would be in the same position. Every team has a mid round pick type WR on teams and returns, it’s pretty normal. We wish he was doing more on offense because he was a 3rd round pick and that’s totally understandable. But we’d need better depth for him to be a cut candidate even as a 5th or 6th rounder without pedigree or the power of nepotism. Next year is where I hope he’s really in danger if he hasn’t taken a leap as a WR. That’ll mean we’ve kept adding WR talent

Just saying, 6'1 and 200lb guys who try hard on special teams/blocking/etcetc are usually more valued by teams than us fans. So no, I don't think he'd get cut. Also Lane and McCaffrey are viewed as different types of receivers.

It's a pity NextGenStats doesn't do Charts for every WR and only includes Targets. I'd be really curious to see how they tried to use Lane and how that shifts over time. His one catch was a short middle hitch he caught for like 5 yards turned up field for a 1st down.

For reference here's Deebo (gray routes are incompletes)

Signed Chase Edmonds to the PS. Receiving RB depth option, experience with Kliff’s scheme
