The 2025 Free Agency Thread

McLaurin isn't worth Chase or Jefferson money and he most likely isn't going to get anything close to it from anybody. And he's 1/2 a generation older.

Offer the dude 28-30M and if he doesn't want it, move on and watch him come back.

I don't know. I think there are a lot of teams that don't have a GM like Adam Peters who probably isn't going to wildly overpay a player, even one as top notch a human as Terry. Someone will though. I've said all along I think it's possible he just wants too much and a deal can't be made.

Still time to make it happen obviously, but it's getting shorter by the day.

When TM first held out I assumed it would be over quick and thought what the hell is the hold up? However as its dragged on the numbers being thrown around seem to have risen and are now at the point where you really need to start thinking long term and asking if he really is in that range? The article I was looking at over the weekend was suggesting top 3 league WR money. If thats the case then I think we move on. Ive always loved TM but with Jayden on a rookie contract our Superbowl window is open. If he is asking for top 3 money I think we work a trade and move on.

don't pay attention to any of this stuff. randos and ignorant analysts are just throwing stuff out there to generate clicks and conversation. worry if he isn't signed after the first couple weeks of july.

Agree completely. Terry wants 37 plus. Time to get what you can and move on. It is f'ed up because he finally got a franchise QB and decided to lose his mind over it. Deebo can do Terry's job.

There’s no evidence he’s demanding that at all. There’s almost no reporting on this situation at all, other than, um, “it’s a situation”.

Yeah. OK. Dude is north of 30 and it is only downhill from here. GREAT FRANCHISES trade Terry Mclaurins all day long brother. Because he will get shipped to a team without a franchise QB and be what he was here without one. Except he is getting old now. So it will be much worse.

I have no problem trading players with unreasonable contract demands, I’m not pushing back on the concept of it. I’m not sentimental in that way. I’m simply saying we have no evidence he’s asking for anywhere near $37M like you said, there’s no real reporting on the details of the negotiation out there, it’s all speculation based purely on the fact that it’s not done yet.

Browns cut a decent EDGE, wonder if we’re still in the market or just waiting for these elderly vets to have their markets (or lack thereof) settle

Terry deserves top-10 money, but $37 million would put him in the top 3, that’s too much. I still hope they can negotiate a fair deal, he is a great one and would be missed.

The TM situation has me pressing because I really feel like this team is now in a Championship window. It might not happen for another season or two, but this extension happens for at least another couple of seasons beyond the upcoming season I am pretty confident TM will retire with at least one title secured and given everything he has been through while playing for this franchise, I think he is super deserving and also the one player from the Rivera era that legitimately is the caliber of player that belongs on a team competing for a title.

However, he is also not going to get Top 3 WR money. It just isn't going to happen. Now maybe reports that he is asking for that kind of money are just stirring the pot for what has otherwise been a pretty quiet and going about business offseason. Also the total dollar amount isn't always as important as how the many is structured and what amount is listed as this or that.

Either way, I am giving the front office the benefit of the doubt with the TM contract situation. They are motivated to build a winner and so far they have been way ahead of schedule and I trust that they are exhausting every option possible whether it means TM stays on the team or the package a deal.

“The negative spin? That button-push is about Terry McLaurin ... and there is now. rumor about what the Commanders' No. 1 receiver and contract holdout wants that if true represents a holdout-related monkey wrench.”

(The bolded word is my addition. I take no responsibility for the awkward mistake in properly presenting the written text, which should be expected of those who do such work for money.)

Everybody does realize that it is just "funny" money? Bonus, guarantees, incentives hide the real costs. PLUS the salary cap will go up each year to cover this. It will become important after JD5's rookie deal.

Terry’s last contract at the time he signed it was for very good money, top 6/7 as I recall if not better.

He didn’t give the team a hometown discount as a poster indicated earlier in the thread.

The AAV thing doesn’t affect total dollars to player but agents push for this to show how big their ***** are.

I’m just worried that Terry’s agent is going to push him to hold out from training camp. Just because that seems to be the thing to do these days, and to be fair it’s probably the best way to maximize how much money he can get for his client. Hopefully though, Terry will prioritize training camp over squeezing out a few million more in guaranteed money. Either way he’s going to sign eventually, no way he would want to leave Jayden.

Is 37 the number were going to make up and get upset about? I think that's solid, so when he signs for 32/33 we can all yell "home town discount" and "atta boy Peters".

I can't believe Terry is demanding $37!

We’re not even in July yet. If we’re a day or two from camp starting and he’s still waiting for his deal, then I’ll be concerned. We still have several weeks before we need to start worrying about that.
