Yeah the article said he had a limited sample size, 35 carries. It is more about the stat fits what we see when he powers over people. If he were a preseason rookie he would be the next fan heartthrob, so I guess he doesn’t show out in practice/training camp. Just can’t see why he isn’t the short yardage back.

Jay, I think, for now, Laremy Tunsil, Deebo Samuel and Marshon Lattimore might be it for them in the “splash” category. They’re now down to five picks in this year’s draft. I think they’ll use those to move around and pick up some more draft capital, and then use it on college players, rather than those already in the pros.

The cool thing is they’ve taken care of four of the five so-called premium positions—quarterback, left tackle, receiver and corner—to an extent where they don’t have to force a pick at any of those spots. And at the one premium spot where they may feel like they do have to do something, edge rusher, there is a ton of depth in the class, so much so that they theoretically could use both of their first- and second-round picks on the position.
 
I don't think Rodriguez is likely the answer for a power back either. But I don't think its debatable that Rodriguez has flashed more in his limited stints than Robinson did. Rodriguez has basically played the equivalent of 4 games and averaged just short of 5 YPC, that's actually good.

Robinson is basically a tad over 4 yards a carry in his career. That's mediocre. That's Perine. That's who Robinson is IMO. I see someone mentioned 2023 as a breakout season for Robinson -- I dont see how. 4.1 YPC. Just 5 TDs. 733 yards. It's just OK. Every one of his three seasons he's been just OK. But to me the bigger issue with that is while most running backs are excelling playing side to side with elite running QBs -- Robinson is still the same dude. Up and down. Just OK at best.

Logan Paulsen is no flame thrower. If anything I get annoyed (though I like him) when he gets a bit too homerish for my liking -- so when he of all people is going it wouldn't surprise him if they moved on from Robinson -- at a minimum it shows that the people here who have had enough of Robinson being the lead in our backfield, aren't just some overreacting emotional fans.

I've watched about 20 backs for this coming draft. This is not hyperbole from me -- but of course its purely my opinion, all of them I think are better than Robinson. Heck as much as I love the top 6 or so RBs in the draft and I fear that they shop purely in that third tier of RBs: Harvey, Giddens, Tuten. Those guys are a major upgrade over Robinson. I think the 4th tier guys (my version of the 4th tier) J. James, Neal, Martinez, Blue, Marks are easily an upgrade over Robinson. Heck I think some in that 5th tier for me (Hunter, Etienne, M. Johnson) are better than Robinson.

The key point for me is these dudes would be in the backfield with Daniels -- its a great set up for a big season with an offense that thrives on RPOs. You don't have to be extremely fast to take advantage of that. See Alfred Morris. Adding speed though would be fun because Jayden as the decoy in an RO or RPO opens holes for RBs especially those who excel at one cut and go. Robinson main problem IMO isn't that he doesn't have the wheels to take it to the house. His issue IMO is he lacks vision. And for a physical back, he's not always that great at breaking MULTIPLE tackles. You watch for example Skattebo and he breaks one tackle after the other. Robinson has some moments like that but not enough IMO.

Also, if you listen to Clinton Portis or Alfred Morris back in the day, they would come off mega thoughtful as to how to set up their runs, how to use one play to set up the other, knowing the tendencies of the defenders on and on. I am a bit of an interview junkie for this team and have heard my share of Robinson interviews -- and if he thinks through his game plan in a deep way like an Alfred or Portis did, he keeps it to himself because he gives no indication that he's a technician as far as studying tendencies.

I think Washington and others would give up more if Hendrickson was less of a specialist and was 26/27 instead of 30.

Myles Garrett is a better overall player and a vocal leader on defense.

I'm all about us drafting a RB earlier in the draft (3rd) and going for Marks in the 6th, if he's there. Marks becomes a poor man's Deebo until he proves himself otherwise. I'd place Neal in the same category as Giddens and think that they could fall to the 3rd round along with Tuten and possibly Harvey too.
 
On a slow day, I thought I would watch all of B Rob's runs. I can tell you that I have a different viewpoint on him than most. I absolutely want to take advantage of any of these young backs coming out if the right one falls to us. We need to bring in a young AE. Someone who can learn from him and even go a bit further. Our problem last year, by far, was our Oline play. We lost so many battles with body position and quickness that as a coach, I can't get a real feel for how good B Rob could be in this offense when he didn't even get average blocking from the front 5.

At this point, addition and subtraction are calculated on the roster. B Rob was not the issue that needs to be solved as a priority. Its the Oline. When I see the LOS going backwards more than forwards in his runs, I am not helping my RB out at all. We have taken a big step in solving that problem. I do wonder if that monster from San Diego might be put in at G and see what he could do there. This part gives me great hope for this coming season.

The draft will be fun to see who shows up at 29 or what opportunities we get to acquire someone who really catches our eye. Always looking to improve, but it needs to be smart. If a RB is there that is at the top of our charts....damn right pick him. Same thing with a DE. The great part is as of right now, neither is a NEED as much as it is a want. Big difference when we pick.

And for those wondering, yes, defenses played us different based on who we had in the backfield. As they should. Our ability to get consistently to 2nd level blocks was just crap.

In three seasons, Walker has 24 sacks, 28 tackles for loss and 162 total tackles. He also has three forced fumbles and an interception. He also has back to back seasons of recording 10 or more sacks in a season.

Despite his success, Jacksonville has not yet extended Walker. He has a four-year contract that he signed as a rookie and has a club option in 2026 and then will become a unrestricted free agent in 2027.

If the Jaguars do move on from Walker, it would likely be due to them not wanting to fit the bill of what an extension would cost for the former first overall pick. However, the idea of letting go of a player that appears to be reaching his prime years of professional football also seems a bit questionable.

Good points here & ultimately I landed in the "don't really buy it" category also. I'll be interested to see what AP & the crew do with figuring it out & if RB is a need on the draft menu.

Would love Giddens if still there at our pick
 
I kind of like what they just did with Deebo.

They reworked the deal which should make him happy, but they also kept him on a "prove-it" deal to keep him hungry (and in case he has lost it or doesn't fit.)

Great take. If we continue to improve the o line it will only help the entire offense (Cpt obvious on my part) but it also negates to a degree chasing 30 mil a year contracts for superstar wide outs and running backs. RB can be upgraded through the draft every 3 or 4 years (rookie contracts and RB shelf life considered) and to an extent the same with WR. Bigger contracts reserved for QB, LT and perhaps a single stud WR. Having a formidable OL just opens up so much.

I would love to go after him. He is precisely the type of player bad teams lose that good teams keep a while. Well rounded DE who has gotten better every season and plays with passion. He is only scratching the surface
 
Walker I'd give up #29 for. He just turned 24, 20.5 sacks the last two seasons. Jacksonville does dumb shit all the time.

I'd give up a 2nd for him. Remember that we'd also likely have to give him a blockbuster extension too. He's pretty good but he's not a guy who strikes terror into opposing offenses.
