Peters wasn’t making the decisions in SF, and saw Kinlaw escape the injury years and have his best year as a pro this past season elsewhere. We also have the DL coach that coached him during his original rookie contract so obviously they see something in him.

It’s essentially a 2/31 deal with the out we have in year 3. Look at the money these clowns are getting across the league, is a decent DL with a high athletic ceiling, who is still improving, really not worth close to $15M in this market? Idk, I think we overpaid to a degree but Dyami Brown will make $10-12M this year on a one year deal. Much worse contracts out there as well. The OT who gave up the most sacks in the NFL last year just signed for $20M/per.

Idk. I was shocked as well and have no idea how it’ll turn out. But the market is silly this year (even more than normal) and they handpicked a guy they know and overpaid him a bit to ensure they got a guy.

I just don’t think referring to the fact they didn’t pick up his 5th year option in SF after an injury-plagued rookie contract stint really means anything when AP wasn’t making decisions there and clearly still believes in the talent after seeing him develop a bit. It’s not a gotcha, and this year in FA $15M per for a couple years doesn’t get you very far.
 
Hey, I'm just saying that if he doesn't get you 10 sacks and/or a ton of pressures and is Fowler vs the run then I guess he's not really an upgrade. But yeah, Fowler could be about to sign somewhere for 20M a year. Who knows.

He's also cheaper and probably going to be an upgrade to Allen so it's not bad. I guess some other team was probably offering similar money so they had to pay.
 
The Tunsil move was nice but Kinlaw and Harris are underwhelming. If the goal is to net upgrade all departing players to truly reach a Super Bowl level, why not pursue Reid? Not that much more expensive than Harris and a proven leader and stud with the range to get to guys Wagner and Luvu can’t get to. He hasn’t made a Pro Bowl but adding him would’ve been adding a top 12 safety in his prime at a reasonable price in a role that would’ve been a great fit for him

Right or wrong, it appears AP and DQ don’t believe in investing a lot of $ at the safety position.

Kinlaw is not going to get you double digit sacks. And that’s not how you judge if this move is successful.

I think he’s going to play some big edge in base and be expected to set a hard edge and turn runs back inside. On passing downs he might move inside and give some interior pass rush. I’d judge this move on does our run defense improve overall, some of which will be schematic and Kinlaw has been signed because he apparently fits the scheme.

We still need to draft/sign the guy who will play edge to rush on passing downs. If we can get Fowler back on a reasonable deal that would be the ideal situational role for him.

I think AP doesn't mind taking a big swing (see Lattimore and Tunsil), but mostly sees free agency as a way to hold the fort until drafted players are ready to star. In terms of Kinlaw, Peters chose the opposite of an overwhelming pick, he wanted a guy who absorbs blockers and stops the play versus the guy who makes the play... at least that's my guess.

He's not a stat hound or highlight reel player who pops on tape. TBH, I don't know much about him. I know what I want though. I want a Dave Butz type (a guy who never gets pushed back and maybe doesn't get the tackle, but stops the play from going anywhere.)

How about CB Asante Samuels? Bringing in a CB cable of playing the outside would be a big relief come draft day. I am surprised he hasn't already signed with a team.
Sign Samuels and bring back Noah I

Agreed that they could look at DL and RT/G with their first 2 picks. There will be good players at those positions in that range.

YES!! Give me 2 Dave Butz and a couple of Dexters Manleys and we'll be set. The Eagles were marching through the NFC east not by bombs to Desean, but by Barkley and tushes making conversions and maintaining drives.

edit: On 2nd thought, perhaps we can only handle one Dexter at a time. Let's add a Mann to that combo so we have a tough but cerebral end, 2 brick walls in the middle, and a cocaine fueled madman on the other end.

A strange thought just occurred to me. We may be getting 2026 compensatory picks.

Allen received a bigger contract than Kinlaw
Chinn got a bigger deal than Will
Dyami got a decent deal
Neither Tunsil or Deebo should count in terms of compensation because they were acquired by trade.

Heck, I'd take a Charles Mann! (Actually, I loved Charles Mann. He usually got double digit sacks, too, but also played the run. He was just quieter so didn't get as much media love.)
 
This thread has been busy the last few days! Just wanted to say I’ve enjoyed reading all the differing opinions here. It’s great to see that although opinions can differ on a player or on the direction chosen by the FO all of the points are made with respect and with a passion to see this team succeed. Personally I’m thrilled with the Tunsil trade. I think Kinlaw is an interesting one but I trust that they have a clear plan for him given he was the first guy they went after. Now I’m keen to see how Peters approaches the rest of this offseason. I’d like an edge, a wr and a CB before the draft.
