Regretfully have to agree, we are among the losers in free agency so far. Tunsil and Debo are nice pieces for sure, but they’re not FAs—we paid for them in draft capital. And there’s no denying both are on the wrong side of the aging curve. Kinlaw and Harris as actual FA signings were meh (with Kinlaw being an outright head scratcher for many) and they’re really little more than a lateral replacement for guys we let go in Allen and Chinn. I don’t see how the D has been upgraded much if at all. No corners???
Yes the Tunsil trade is big, but considering all the cap space we had to work with compared to other teams, free agency to me has been disappointing.

How about you grade us again in November, or even September for that matter
 
HTTR Look at what AP did last year. He took a team that was in the cellar to the NFC Championship game. In one season, he did that. Give it a chance. We only have a short window (with JD before he gets a MEGA deal) to take us to the SB and getting one of the premiere OTs in the game and a player AP thinks has grown into what this team needs on the DL along with a very good (good and more versatile than Chinn) FS/SS/CB has made this team better. Don't let these social media pundits get to you. We are headed in the right direction, bro.

Guaranteed pro-bowl season from Kinlaw, universe got his back to prove them wrong.

Gallup has been out of the league a year as he “retired” and is making a comeback now. Idk if you’ll see him signed anywhere soon, teams are doing their due diligence on him, but he could even be a vet who doesn’t sign until after week 1 when new veteran contracts are no longer guaranteed. I don’t think he’s a “normal” FA in the sense of the other guys they’re looking at, that’s why it was a workout. Updating the Rolodex, so to speak, because his file is a year out of date and his medicals are a mystery

I was actually wondering if this workout was DQ doing him a solid as much as it was due diligence. Put his name in the news, get on somebody’s radar…maybe we bring him in as a camp body later on, but I’d be shocked if anything extra and even that much would surprise me.

Sorry RWJ, I don’t mean to call you out specifically, because I’ve seen this type of quote bandied about by many here, and elsewhere. Are we going to automatically suck once we pay JD a big contract? We will have no chance to make a Super Bowl when JD is no longer on his rookie contract?

What I am seeing from GMAP is, making this team relevant right away, while trying to build for that future, 4 years down the line, when JD does get paid. I understand having a bit more flexibility to get some more expensive pieces now, but if the FO is not making moves now, to fit into their 5 and 10 year plans, then they are doing themselves, and us fans, a disservice.

No problems, Slotball. I don't mind. As long as things are done respectfully, I got no issues at all. (y) Way I look at it, we still have a draft and still more signings that can occur. AP has to do what he thinks is right (moves and $$$) during free agency and then he has the draft. Those are his resources. There are still some players out there (big talent is gone, for the most part) but let's see how things workout between now and the time we are at midseason, barring no major injuries. If it was because AP didn't make more moves or the right moves in free agency and didn't fill out needs in the draft, then I understand your concerns about "not enough being done".

Don’t misunderstand me, I’m all in on AP. I’ve given him the benefit of the doubt from day one and he’s done nothing but continue to earn it moving forward. I completely trust him on all of his moves, and of course I agree we are heading in the right direction. But if you are asking me who are the winners and losers in free agency the last couple days, I think you can agree our haul has been underwhelming compared to what we were hoping for. Let’s get a corner in here and then maybe I can sip the Kool-Aid.

Maybe, but there are a lot of variables there: Newton and Sanristil are going into their 2nd year. If they take a step forward, we’ll be a lot better. Magee is a really athletic LB that got hurt last year, he could show. Martin is heading into his third year. Lattimore was hurt when he came over—will he be better? We still have the draft, which is deep for DL and CB.

I realize the opposite can happen too—Newton is a bust, Wagner falls off, Kinkaw is a bust, Lattimore is done, yadda, yadda, yadda.

Point is, it’s way too early to tell one way or another
 
In two offseason, Peters has provided us with a potential top 5 NFL franchise QB, a top 5 NFL LT, a potential top 10 CB when healthy, while complimenting McLaurin with a pretty solid weapon in Samuel. We are currently missing a dominant edge rusher, but I would say overall, Peters has done quite well in a short time span after taking over a bottom five roster in the NFL.

As for the pipeline, Sainristril looks promising on the backend of the defense, as do Newton and Coleman along the lines. While there is work to be done yet, there is evidence of a long-term core being constructed that should keep us competitive for years to come.
 
Now that they have an all pro at LT, we can concentrate on defense with our first and second picks. I think this will be a step forward in defense. Whether we trade down or keep our picks I am pretty sure we can get 2 starters (Edge, CB) , In addition there are some decent edge players, still out there and CB"s that are better than BJS.

Yeah to some degree. But it is statements like
