The 2025 Free Agency Thread

Hypothetical: We send our 2025 2nd and 2026 2nd for Hendrickson

We trade our #29 1st round pick to SF along with Allen for their 2nd (#43), 3rd (#99) and 4th (#112) and a 2026 7th round pick.

Do you make these trades?

I would for both. But we already know SF doesn't want Allen at the salary he is at right now -- that came out about the Deebo deal.
 
Thinking the Hendrickson request makes it more likely we can land one of either him or Garrett? MG obviously still hasn't been granted permission but this has to improve the odds.

Yes, we do know they talked. I would guess AP would have brought up a 2026 7th round pick too. If we were to offer the deal I dreamscaped for Hendrickson, I have to imagine that we would trade our 1st or 2nd at the least for multiple picks in this year's draft.

A crafty way by AP and whomever else may be wanting Cleveland to play ball to make MG available by getting Cincy to make Hendrickson available now.
 
Grant Paulsen just said on air he text'd someone with the team and he got the vibe this team thinks a 2nd rounder (won't require a first) for Trey because of the salary component of this where he'd get 30 million a year for three years.

Listened to some beat guys, the vibe I get is we wanted SF to take Allen as part of that deal but SF would only do it if we took some of the cap hit on for Allen and lowered the salary for SF and this team wasn't willing to do that.

A lot of smoke that Allen gets released in the next few days. The problem he has is you have to overpay to get him as far as his salary goes and teams apparently aren't interested thus far. Probably doesn't helped to have a stacked draft for DT.
 
If all we'd ship to Cincy is a 2nd rounder for TH for a 3 year 90 mill contract, get er' done!

I read that too but now that I saw the deal that Houston made for WR Kirk from Jacksonville, I would have thought that if we made the same kind of deal with SF for a 2026 7th, SF would bite but apparently not. I am hoping as is you and everyone that someone will ante up something for Allen but it probably is extremely low any team will. Here's to hoping though.
 
Yeah if we have to give Hendrickson a 3 year $30m/year salary in exchange for only having to give up a 2nd rounder, I say pull the trigger. Take advantage of JD's rookie contract and bring in talent that could help us win soon.

Some other team has to offer more value than a pick in the 60’s. No?

Also, maybe id rather pay two 2nd’s for Hendrickson than two 1sts and change for Garrett?

Yeah, Hendrickson doesn't have a no-trade clause, so they can send him wherever they want. A team with high picks and a decent amount of cap space (Pats, Titans, Jets, for example) could easily outbid us.

Could be a 2nd and change. Grant doesn't report much but not bad when he does. Don't know how high up the person he talked to from the FO but that was what they texd Grant back. Also maybe that's the limit Washington is willing to give and another team will give more. Who knows?

To play devils advocate he's turning 31 years old during next season, he's going to demand a mega contract. It's not crazy for age and contract size to dilute trade value.

I heard that too. He added later from his team source "2nd and some fluff" along with a 3yr/$95 mil contract
 
I would rather sign Bosa at 29 rather than give up high picks for the 31 year old Hendrickson.

Hendrickson was rated poorly by PFF as run defender while Bosa is a better two way performer.

That #2 pick in 2025 is an OT or DT or DB this team needs too badly to pass up.

This defense needs 4-5 adds not just one big trade.
