The 2025 Draft Thread

I see this and I go Wow!

You are very new to Booker, clearly. That's the crux of the debate about him that we have been having. Great tape, great leader -- poor RAS. Power. Not speed. Massive wingspan. Massive hands. He will bully you, not out run you.

Here are the scouts on him.

GUARDS

1. TYLER BOOKER, Alabama (6-4 ½, 326, 5.34, 1): Third-year junior. “He’s a pretty safe bet to be the first guard,” one scout said. “He has the most solid foundation. Now he may be a little bit more of a gap-scheme than a run-off-the-ball wide-zone type. He’s a big body. Real big personality. He’s very much liked at the school. He’s been paid a lot of money. There’s some maturity there.” Rotated at both guards in 2022 before starting 25 games at left guard in 2023-’24. Last season, one of his starts came at left tackle. “Giant human being,” said a second scout.

“Heavy-handed, flexible, strong, smart, good athlete. Not a great puller or second-level guy but he’s a really good in-line player, run and pass. He’d be our starting right guard yesterday. Guards typically don’t go in the first round but he will. He could play some right tackle in some power schemes.” Five-star recruit from New Haven, Conn., and IMG Academy. “A guard like this, you could take him (first round),” said a third scout. “He’s not super talented or dynamic in any way but he’s big, moves well enough, plays on his feet, good football intelligence, he works. He’ll be good.” Arms were 34 ½ inches, size 11-inch hands were the largest at the position. “I don’t know if he’ll be a solid starter but I don’t think you’ll miss on him,” said a fourth scout.

Depends on the team. If I recall Lawrence would line up against our LG often, whereas Carter mostly lines up against the RG. Parsons they love to simply line up to the weak link on the O line.

In our scheme over the years, Jonathan Allen would line up against the LG -- often the weak side. Run stuffers for some teams often are more versus the right side of the O line -- the strong side, the side where often the TE is blocking.

I often consider the LG more important for pass protect and RG for run blocking. but again depends on the scheme they are up against.
That's kind of how I always saw it, too.

Even back to the days of Samuels, I can't remember having a above average LG, either. Even with the Gibbs II OL, we drafted that one guy, who left for the Bills and we brought back. Can't think of his name.

Derrick Dockery

Yeah.

At a minimum, its clear listening to Keim, they really really want a top o line. And I love that. I don't care how boring it makes their pick.

The way to beat Jayden is the same way to beat most QBs, kill them from the inside. Jayden can often escape pressure from the edges. Having Tunsil and Booker on the left side would be amazing.

Plus to beat the Eagles I was thinking about this some. Jayden was asked about it before the SB in an interview. He said to beat the Eagles don't let their D line wreck the game with big negative plays. That's the idea of their defense.

4 guys up front. with 7 guys in coverage. The Eagles can do what Ron hoped his 4 D lineman can do which is bring pressure with 4 and have the 7 lock down the passing game. to beat the Eagles, you can't let their defensive front wreck the game. If you do that, you can give your pass catchers the time to get open

Thanks for clarifying. I specifically remembered Carter going up against Cosmi last year

I am still surprised they have not announced getting Terry resigned before tonight.

It would give us more cap space for potential trade scenarios

It would keep leverage even. What I mean is if we don't bring in a WR early, Terry is even more valuable to us and therefore may expect more $. Or visa versa of course

Imagine if the Giants draft Jeanty at 3 and then trade up for Milroe. That team starts looking pretty good down the road.
Well, I would rather they not have Jeanty but Milroe doesn't scare me

Yeah.

Glad there's not more than one Jalen Carter. I'm curious to see Newtons second year jump.

I've become increasingly interested in a high DT pick for us.

I’m sure it’s a tough negotiation like the Niners w Aiyuk last year. He probably wants to be paid like an elite receiver and we probably want to give him more Mike Evans type of money

I am hoping not signing him asap affects their thoughts on drafting a WR earlier. If they have a couple players fairly equal on the board and one is a WR, they take him over another position where the player is slightly ranked higher or felt to be a little more of a need position.

Harmon IMO is VERY tempting. Ranked by pass rushing win rate. Peebles, Norman Lott among others later in the draft. I read that've talked to Hemingway.

This is a stacked draft for D line. another reason to trade down and add picks.

Him and Nolan are the two DL I'd jump on if they fell to us and be really happy about it.

I think we see here a break in PFF metrics once more on how they grade NTs. Phillips and Toia have some of the lowest grades on this list for run defense

You’ve already sold me on Booker. Thinking about a Wall of Tunsil, Booker, Biadascz, is super appealing.

Last year, it felt like we had to do so much schematically to cover for the OL. Sliding protection. Chipping. Leaning too heavily on the short passing game.

Adding Tunsil, plus another significant OL upgrade seems liKe it could really open up the offense. I’m sure Peters was already on it, but I wonder if Kingsbury had been doing some lobbying for OL.

No doubt I’ll love Campbell if they pick him, but I tend to think instincts are a crucial trait for a linebacker…
Of course, I assume he’d be their Parson’s, not their replacement for Wagner, so probably a relative non-issue?

I was thinking yesterday about a trade back with the Browns or Giants. Trade chart puts the value at pick 104/105 coming to us (as one of the mocks above mentioned), but what about the value of the 5th year? Seems like that should change the math. I do tend to think we’re… not desperate, but maybe anxious to gain picks, so we might accept slightly less than equal value. I’d push for a 7th as well.

It feels very weird picking so late, and it's really not great for those of us on the other side of the pond (really wish they'd start it sooner each year). I usually stay up to watch our Day 1 and 2 picks, but this year I've resigned myself to getting up early on Friday to re-watch it all unfold before work (benefit of skipping through all the ads too). My 16 year old is just getting into the NFL (rooting for the Commanders obviously), and yesterday asked if I could wake him up early so he could watch the draft for the first time. Regardless of if we trade out or not, I'm now looking forward to the father and son time (he rarely watches sports) just as much as finding out who we pick. I don't watch college ball, so also just wanted to say thanks to those who contribute to this thread - it's amazing for people like me, as at least I have a semblance of who these kids are as they come off the board!

Would love at some point to pick up another Guard / Center to back up Biadasz

This is a shift from McShay on Green. He did say he believes in his intel the most as the draft approaches. The thing about Green though is if he falls than as Keim said it likely is because concerns about his narrative so in that context this team would skip him.

But Keim comes off that this team has definite interest in the player and has met him multiple times.

Nolen I heard had some character concerns. Harmon injury concerns.

Top Talents Who Could Fall
  • Michigan CB Will Johnson
  • Alabama LB Jihaad Campbell
  • Marshall edge Mike Green
  • Tennessee edge James Pearce Jr.
  • Ole Miss IDL Walter Nolen
  • Oregon IDL Derrick Harmon
I consider the above six guys to be top-20 talents in this draft, which is why I’m shocked to hear how much uncertainty there is about when they will be selected. I can't remember going into a first round with this many high-end players who have such drastically different draft ceilings and floors.
Texas corner Jahdae Barron is another interesting name to monitor. Adam Schefter reported he could go as high as no. 7, but there’s also a scenario where he’s on the board until the mid 20s.

skinsinparadise Worth noting Logan has been echoing some of the guys Keim has been pointing out. Was going over EDGEs on a recent pod at 29 and randomly brought up Booker as a guy at 29 after not really talking about him all draft season. He’s also been talking more Scourton on recent pods

Logan did a podcast with Craig yesterday that i watched where they went through scenarios. I agreed with him on all of it including think it was a tough call between Harmon, Ezeiruaku, Stewart if that scenario arose.
