The 2025 Draft Thread

I think this is the guy who would be the Dotson type of pick for me in this draft. Guard is already middle of the pack in terms of value and Booker is a guy with athletic limitations that will likely prevent him from becoming a top player at that position. Gives off OCyrus Torrence vibes - not a bad player but a guy who was properly valued as a 2nd round pick

If I’m taking a guard in round 1, I want to have a high degree of conviction that the guy can become truly elite.
Great points. Although as others have said I think guard is becoming more of a premium position than it used to be because of the shift in defenses toward a stronger interior pass rush. The Philly DTs plus sexy Dexy in our division coming up the middle is a scary thought… I want those guys getting to Jayden as little as possible! One of the top couple of guards may be a better bet then say the sixth or seventh tackle off the board.

Looking at our division, we have to face some monster defensive tackles and it wouldn't be bad to have a monster of our own. I'd be wary of going monster hunting in the first round, but finding someone who can stalemate Jalen Carter 1:1 regularly is appealing.

The knock I’ve heard on Ezeiruaku, and Sheehan mentioned this the other day as well, is that he is more of a pass rush specialist only. A guy who would probably only play on passing downs initially and is not necessarily going to have the size to be effective against the run. Certainly the kind of player we really need, but is it worthy of the first round pick or is that the type of player we can get later in the draft? I feel like the first round pick should be an every down player not a “situational” guy.

It is true he is light but the guy also has 34” arms that allow him to keep blockers off of him. The thought is he can add weight in the NFL and his frame is not maxed out.

He had 21 TFLs last year. He shows the will to play the run.

Even if Lattimore regains his stud play and later in his career discovers durability that he's not had in years -- we still need a CB IMO. What do we do right now in dime coverage? Who is our 4th CB? Jonathan Jones is 31 going on 32, not 21 going on 22. And we are banking on a bounce back season from him. Even if it happens, how much we are counting on him for the future. Since when having 4 corners is a luxury? It's a passing league. And forget Lattimore for a second, corners tend to get hurt, not just him.

CB you always need 4. Ideally 4 good ones. So if Lattimore rediscovers his form and somehow discovers why he keeps pulling his hamstring and finds his fountain of youth for a late career rival, we can still use a young and up an coming corner.

And again this is a SB window. just counting on Lattimore on a variable that likely won't work out is sort of depressing way for the season to fall short IMO. And I can't really think of another ticking time bomb on this team like that. Right now we are betting against the house on both Lattimore and Jones. And again i like the Jones signing but to just assume later in his career he's going to bounce back when the team that knows him best let him go even though he was cheap -- that's also betting against the house.
We do need a CB agreed but I'd put my choice at EDGE then CB. This is why I am hoping that AP trades down because right behind CB is RB which is sorely needed. I am just hoping Donovan Ezeiruaku in on the board still at #29 and selected if AP doesn't trade the pick.

No one of course nails it all the time but Schrager is one of the more plugged in ones. He doesn't have Ezeirukau even going in the first round. The mocks tend to be closer to on the money this week. That also dovetails as I mentioned weeks back when I saw the scouts who McGinn interviewed put Ezeiruaku in the 2nd round. My point is I think there is more than a fighting chance (in spite of what Jeremy Greene said) that he's available at 29.

Will Johnson dropping this far has occured to me of late. He seems to be slipping with some. Some seem bothered that he didn't run at his pro day.

I recall the year we got Jonathan Allen saying early that college season wouldn't it be great if we could get him but alas it won't happen, he's going too early. I said something similar on a board last year early in the college season about Johnson. Maybe karma, fate? It's been eons since I watched him, I'll try to watch him today.

12. Dallas Cowboys

Tyler Booker, G, Alabama

Booker, a bully of a guard, could help add some much-needed beef to the Cowboys' line. Having had Zack Martin retire this offseason, there's going to be a desire to fill the interior with a plug-and-play lineman.

Everyone will be clamoring for the Cowboys to take a running back or receiver. Let's go guard, though. That's how I see it.

i

16. Arizona Cardinals

Jahdae Barron, CB, Texas

The Thorpe Award winner is the top corner in this class not named Travis Hunter. The Cardinals have been quietly adding premier talent through the draft the past few years. Remember: Head coach Jonathan Gannon is a defensive backs coach by trade. This one makes a lot of sense.

i

17. Cincinnati Bengals

Mike Green, Edge, Marshall

The pass rusher who led the FBS with 17 sacks last season could go even higher than this. The unfortunate truth is that whichever defender Cincinnati takes here will be pitted against veteran Trey Hendrickson, who hasn't been happy with contract negotiations and has requested a trade. It wouldn't be fair to Green, who is a great prospect and fit for the Bengals.

i

18. Seattle Seahawks

Grey Zabel, C/G, North Dakota State

I've heard some buzz that Zabel could go as high as No. 12. That's a little too rich, but I do think top 20 could happen. The Senior Bowl star turned heads and has been as consistent through the draft process as anyone.

i

19. Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Tetairoa McMillan, WR, Arizona

The all-world athlete would be the perfect addition to a wide receiver room with a mix of veterans and young players. The Bucs love Mike Evans and Chris Godwin, and Jalen McMillan is coming off a solid rookie year. McMillan would be the perfect student for the veterans to teach.

i

20. Denver Broncos

Emeka Egbuka, WR, Ohio State

Bar none, Egbuka is the most universally well-liked prospect in this draft. He is smart, reliable and sure-handed. He could be a 10-year captain somewhere and is most often compared to fellow Buckeyes legend Terry McLaurin.

Coach Sean Payton and general manager George Paton hit a home run with Bo Nix a year ago. This could be another no-brainer.

i

21. Pittsburgh Steelers

Shedeur Sanders, QB, Colorado

I know Sanders had a good meeting in Pittsburgh when he visited a few weeks back. I also know the Steelers still don't have a QB1 on their roster. This might be viewed as a "slip" down the board for Sanders. He could go anywhere from No. 3 to the Giants to the second round.

Going to Pittsburgh here as the second quarterback in the class wouldn't be so bad.

i

22. Los Angeles Chargers

Kenneth Grant, DT, Michigan

Coach Jim Harbaugh and general manager Joe Hortiz went big-school prospect with their first four picks a year ago and ended up with an outstanding class.

Harbaugh and defensive coordinator Jesse Minter know Grant well from their time at Michigan. They'll be able to get the best out of the 331-pounder inside.

i

23. Green Bay Packers

Matthew Golden, WR, Texas

I know it's out of character for Green Bay to take a receiver in Round 1 -- they haven't done it since 2002 -- but in this scenario, Golden could slide right to them. And I can't see him sliding much more.

Green Bay could go in several directions. I doubt anyone thought the Packers could get the consensus top wideout on many boards, though.

i

24. Minnesota Vikings

Omarion Hampton, RB, North Carolina

The Vikings have needs elsewhere and wouldn't list running back as a clear hole on their roster. But if Hampton is on the board, he'd be a wonderful addition to a young core that the organization hopes can grow old together.

i

25. Houston Texans

Donovan Jackson, G, Ohio State

The Texans could look to their offensive line and add a guard who has the potential to kick outside to tackle. They're rebuilding their protection in front of quarterback C.J. Stroud. This isn't an attention-grabbing pick, but it's a sensible one in this draft.

Projected trade: NYG makes a move up

It's time for another trade, this one with the third quarterback coming off the board.

In this deal, the Giants would send pick Nos. 34 and 99 to the Rams to move up to No. 26. And crucially, New York would keep its original third-round pick -- No. 65 -- to continue to add talent to its roster.

i

26. New York Giants (via projected trade with LAR)

Jaxson Dart, QB, Ole Miss

If the draft falls this way, I think the Rams would be OK with this. They don't currently have a second-round pick, but if they agreed to this deal, they'd have four picks on Day 2.

I think the Giants would pounce on Dart. I just am not 100% certain.

i

27. Baltimore Ravens

Josh Simmons, OT, Ohio State

Simmons could slip because of an injury -- he sustained a torn patellar tendon in October -- but he might be the best of the bunch in the offensive linemen class. The Ravens could add another potential star, and watch -- he'll be a difference-maker in no time.

i

28. Detroit Lions

Will Johnson, CB, Michigan

Johnson's stock has slipped a bit. He had a foot injury last season and was inconsistent for the Wolverines. He also sat out Michigan's pro day because of a hamstring injury.

He's a top-level talent, though, and he'd be the perfect corner to complement Terrion Arnold.

i

29. Washington Commanders

Shemar Stewart, Edge, Texas A&M

Stewart slipping this far? It could happen. He'd make a lot of sense for the Commanders given how their run defense performed in the NFC Championship Game.

I am not really married to a player at 29, I like a whole bunch which makes it easy for me to love a trade down.

If they took Ezeiruaku I'd be thrilled. Ditto Hairston. Ditto Stewart. Ditto any of the top WRs including Egbuka. Ditto name that guard. Heck even if its a less sexy name like Scourton or Landon Jackson. Heck even Hampton and Henderson. The only move that i wouldn't love but I'd go along with it because I trust this FO are the safeties: Starks, Nick E. I am on the fence about Carson Schwesinger-- I dig the player but late first feels a little rich.

i am braced to the idea that if we are stuck on positioning in the mocks, we are going to be disspointed. Mock media value and scout value supposedly doesn't line up well.

Most in need of an upgraded starter - DE and RB, maybe RG is in the mix. #3 receiver is probably next, along with PR and Kicker.
Note: DE and RB positions are deep, guard not so much. Of course, the team is also looking at tackles, which potentially moves Coleman inside, thereby addressing G to an extent. Tons of slot wrs/PR throughout the draft.

Most in need of quality depth - corner, followed by (for different reasons) - C, TE, WR and LB, not necessarily in that order.
Note: Corner not the deepest and fit reduces that group for us. Losing Terry, Luvu, Wagner or Ertz would be scary, but losing Biadasz is possibly the worst case scenario (along w/ corner).

Highest overall priority - protecting our #1 asset (Daniels) and making his life as easy as possible. In that respect, I think IOL is the most straightforward improvement as it can help both pass pro and the run game.
Note: Lots of avenues to make Daniels’ life easier - a better RB, improving the pass rush, improving corner depth, adding a receiver that can separate quickly.

My conclusion: Gaining picks should be a priority. OL and corner should probably be addressed in the first 3 rounds, but there’s a little leeway there IMO. Quality DEs (or DT instead) and RBs could be had later (round 3+). Generally though, BPA while factoring in positional depth.

I start with the admission that several of you study the team and the draft deeper than I do, but I still just don't know that I agree. I look at Jonathon Jones, Lattimore, Sainristil, and Iggy and I see a solid group. I'm okay going into the year with that group. I look at Newton, Payne, Kinlaw, and Armstrong and I think as a starting group that's subpar. So, if the players available are equally rated I'd much rather go D-Line.

We went a little back and forth on this yesterday but I keep circling back to my original position. That said, I think we're in a place where Peters almost can't make a pick that will upset me. If he goes corner, edge, wr, rb, or even safety, te, and lb I could get behind it and get it because even if we are "okay" at wr and corner, both units want improvement.

Outside of Lattimore, we don't really have a corner we ideally want to start on the outside. Sainristill can do it in a pinch but we didn't draft him to do that.

Jonathon Jones is not an outside corner.

So it would be Sainristill and Iggy on the outside if Lattimore were to ever go down (and he hasn't had a full season healthy in many years). That is a massive concern to compete this year, especially considering we haven't really improved our pass rush to help them.

This part to me is spot on. A big time guard should have a mutiplier effect.

A. IMO the way to get to Jayden is the same way to get to most Qbs. That is, interior pressure.
B. Arguably the two of the three best DTs in the league are in this division.
C. Allegreti is the weak link of this O line. Removing him should help both the run and pass game.
D. To defeat the Eagles, see the last SB, you can't let their guys, especially their interior guys, wreck the game

While I do really hope we draft EDGE + CB with our first two picks just based on the tier breaks of talent, agree I could never fault the front office for prioritizing protecting our franchise QB.

One thing to also remember:

This is the deepest EDGE/DL class in decades. The DL across the entire league theoretically should be improving across the board. The Giants are almost surely getting Abdul Carter. Micah Parsons should be healthier. Addressing OL today is preparing for that.

I am not really married to a spot. But lol i took a few arrows here for saying if I had to pick the code red spot it would be corner.

Yep aware and agree about the depth at D line, I've talked about it plenty.

And yeah I'd love to build a strong O line for a change. Ron dismantled it. I recall a scout once saying its tough to be a bad team if you got a QB and a strong O line. Look at Philly, Detroit, etc.

We're Redskins' fans. You should have known we come armed with arrows ;)

That's cool. I understand and in the end, AP makes the pick and we hope for the best. This statement is broad and truly makes the most sense. I think we all have a favorite player that fits where we pick and you know mine. LOL. Bottom line, my guy doesn't make it and trading down makes the most sense to me and we have more ammo for the draft and can select more players.

So is this gonna be the live draft day pick by pick thread or will there be another? And has Vegas posted the O/U on our pick occuring during a commercial?

I didn’t want to spell it out in my previous post for brevity’s sake, but yes, spot on (on all points). And of course there’s the ground game factor (as you well know).
Allegretti is the weak link, though it remains to be seen who’s in at RG until Cosmi returns. Regardless, I’d love to get to a place where Allegretti is competing to backup both G and C.

I saw your plug in your profile of "Nobody Bodder Me". I grew up in Fairfax and was taken back to the Jhoon Rhee commercial when I was a kid. I had to post this. Mods, please forgive me but this was done in good taste.

I remember those commercials. :)
