I like Ezeiraku but I'd be equally happy with Josiah Stewart in the 2nd after a trade down from our 1st round pick.

Stewart is now the Edge/OLB prospect I feel that's (seemingly) not getting enough attention. As a pass rusher, he can hang with anyone in this group IMO.

I give the credit to skinsinparadise as his mention of Stewart had me zero in on him and via more research really like what he brings and how he could fit in well as the EDGE on this team.

The obsession mock drafters have with sending Nick Emmanwori to WAS needs to be studied in a lab.

I think my favorite guy to hopefully drop would be Mykel Williams. Somehow doubting it tho.

J. Stewart in the 2nd would be great but I am doubtful he makes it 61. He's slowly getting hype built up around him which suggests he'll probably go no later than mid 2nd.

We don't necessarily need a choir boy. Our locker room is strong enough to bring in a guy with some issues - it's possible he might learn something from a guy like Wagner or Laremy Tunsil. The guy is a game wrecker.

True but if we trade down with another team in the 1st round, depending on who we trade down with and acquire their 2nd round pick plus another pick or picks, he could be taken by us, if he's the target.

Yeah he's on my watch list too. The possibilities at edge in the late 2nd-3rd look good. I don't thnk taking an edge with the first round pick or the first pick they use in a trade down has to be edge.

Depends on how true that narrative is but if its indeed he doesn't love football or work very hard -- a good locker room isn't going to change that makeup. I recall Cooley once saying if he were a GM, his number one criteria would be do they love football because you can't change desire.

I am half way through rewatching Dylan Sampson.

He's interesting. Not a perfect prospect. He has issues -- fumbles and drops in the passing game. He looks smaller than the listed 200 pounds. And he faced mostly light boxes and had some of the better blockers in this class (very low number of teams penetrating at the line of scrimmage)

But...

The dude for a small fast guy runs so hard and keeps shifting his feet and turns where its tough to get a square shot at him to bring him down easily. He actually reminds me of Jordan James if James was fast and had some homerun ability. Like James, Sampson doesn't often break that 3rd or 4th tackle but he's good at breaking the first and 2nd.

He is not the most patient guy. He often just goes at it and quickly finds a hole versus waiting for his blocks to be set up. The Alabama game was an exception. He was patient in that one.

I think he's a good fit here because he runs inside quite a bit. In that way, he's like Henderson. Some of the other speedy backs, Tuten, Harvey, Blue like to turn the corner and run outside.

He's better at getting those tough yards than you would expect for someone his size. He's not as explosive or a big play waiting to happen as you would expect with his size and speed either.

I am still a big Dylan Sampson fan!! VERY QUICK and VERY FAST!! And he has terrific vision!! Could be a bit more patient at times. And has fumbled a few times (not any more than Skattebo though, per attempt . . . lol) but he played against damn good competition and found away to be a beast even without a top o-line in front of him.

What needs to be mentioned about Stewart is he got to play next to the best DT duo in football. That needs to be factored in.

Logan & Craig had Mike Renner on last week and he mentioned Scourton was on the list of guys with character issues. We have a sense of what they are with Green and Pearce but I wonder what they are with Scourton - he was voted team captain at Purdue prior to departing

Beware, at this point of the year, several character concerns could well be smoke screens put out by teams hoping to get a player to fall to them.

I don't think they're gonna throw all of that away for the 1st pass rusher who winks at them. Decisions aren't being made from the Lady S any longer and I think character will be a MAJOR factor in deciding who catches their eye.

Thinking about re-ranking the Edge group because I had Stewart pegged as an OLB but the majority of his snaps were at the Edge position whatever if I have the juice to do it - anyway your comment got me thinking about Mike Green and his character concerns. Maybe they could vet him sufficiently and clear him - who knows and yes they're serious BUT strictly judging him as an Edge he is still easily my #2 after Carter. What sets him apart is his sheer strength which constantly pops off the screen to me. His rip move is elite and he hits way above his weight to my eyes. Maybe that Conerly Jr. rep at the SB was more a testament of his power than any misstep by Conerly. Mike Green is just damn good to my eyes. Tyler Baron would be a big riser and so would the VaTech Edge - Mykel Williams scored poorly RE athletic testing and it shows to an extent lack of explosiveness BUT he is very good at the point of attack, has a great inside move and seems like a smart player as far as I can tell.

By the same token, you can't draft risklessly forever and expect not to have a talent shortfall. That is not to say they should take someone against their better judgement, or that it's definitely time to take a risk in year 2 as they continue to lay the foundation. At some point if you don't aim for some ceiling you'll have problems.

I agree, but that player should be the exception, or you risk losing the team first tone that every team strives to attain. A player who "fell" due to work ethic/character concerns may turn out to be the hungriest of them all. Or he may be an ass and you lost the draft value spent on him. Gamble wisely.

I wonder if class of character issues matters to this group. If it's something like Tet admitting to not watching film or Pearce's effort issues, I get dropping them down the board. If it's something off the field specifically like with Green, I think that takes them off their board too given how they treated the McManus situation.

I was in the minority of the fanbase who was pumped when we claimed Reuben Foster. Sheehan and others went overboard criticizing the team for claiming him back then despite the diligence they did.

It's a shame he ultimately blew out his knee in preseason in 2019 and never actually go to play for us. With his charges, they were dismissed and nothing else has come up on the legal end since.
