The 2025 Draft Thread

Not sure about Caleb. But yeah agree about Maye and JJ. i am was one of the few last year who liked both Maye and Daniels.
I never watched Caleb because it was a forgone conclusion he was going #1 #1.

I watched Maye, JJ and Daniels.

I liked Maye more than Daniels but thought both were great prospects.

I REALLY didn’t like JJ. I watched the Michigan vs. OSU game with relatives and as I was just watching the game I came away thinking JJ was somewhere between average and bad.

Then I watched a cutup of the (I think) Michigan vs Alabama game and thought he was downright bad.

I might be proven wrong. But of the 3 I watched I definitely thought he was #3 and by a good healthy margin.

In full transparency, my biggest issue with Daniels was I didn’t trust his arm strength. There were times when he threw to the outside where I thought the ball hung. I have been proven to be very wrong about that. :)

I still thing BRob is a solid singles hitter. Problem was, last year he was a singles hitter who got hurt and then got into a slump. Slumps happen to singles hitters, but unless their glove is amazing it makes them pretty useless. Likewise, Robinson fell into a slump that was compounded by his three fumble outing. After that, I think he was so worried about ball security that he lost his edge. He tiptoed around instead of smashing into the line with abandon. He focused on his grip instead of looking for holes to exploit. He let himself get tackled instead of trying to power through hits.

So, BRob is a good singles hitter when he is right, but as of yet he hasn't been right for an entire season. He lasts about half a season before he starts to break down and just doesn't have enough speed, wiggle, or power to make up for it when he's not at 100%

For me, it was hard to look at Daniels and not have RGIII nightmares. Even during the season when he got hit I worried. I just didn't know which one would be the one. That's probably why I am so fixated on the trenches and adding a homerun hitting running back.

I got in on Loveland early. I'm down. I agree on RB, too. I said months ago in this thread my WR,RB,TE 123 draft options and I haven't changed my mind. Give the kid all the tools imaginable. I LOVE that we resigned Bates. I still think Sinnott is our FB/TE guy and if we add a TE like Love? Awesome. The fact that guys like Ertz and Wagner want to come back again and keep playing is a huge tell for this team. HUGE.

Draft lines on day 3 like you should be doing and keep signing 1 yr FAs I guess. Until we have to pay JD and the gang we draft.

I can't take the Hurts hate though. How do you call Mahomes elite when he just got smoked, destroyed in the SB. Allen is elite I bet? No SB wins. I mean, Burrow is probably the best QB in the NFL. I think Jayden can be that good, but Mahomes is not elite anymore. Hurts is. 4 years starting and 2 SBs? You can't knock him about if he can carry a bad team, because its not real. He was a day two pick and QB3 at one point and has been in 2 of 4 SBs and MVP of one. The NFC is us and the Birds. That's it. Hurts leads that team.
I don’t know man. Mahomes settles for second place this year, got another AFC championship, and he’s no longer elite? Jalen hurts is better than him?? I can’t even see Eagles fans staring through their Kelley green lenses agreeing with this. It’s no disrespect to Hurts to say that Mahomes is still the best.

Jalen Hurts is kind of Eli Manning like in that he seems so-so during the regular season, but somehow finds an extra gear in the playoffs.

He played fairly poorly against NO and Dallas prior to that Eagles game. The Tennessee game was the outlier. The running game worked that day.

He was really hot and cold all season starting from game 1 where I recall posting on the board, I was at that game, more Ekeler and less Robinson. He basically had 4 really very good games. And arguably didn't have 2 very good games in a row all season.

The inconsistency was season long.

I think Hurts is a good qb for sure. The play calling change last year after the first 4 games - specifically having him attempt (mostly) well under 20 passes - is not a great mark in his favor though.

I might be in the minority on our run game… yes, I think we could do better than Robinson, but I also think the oline was the bigger problem. Tunsil was a great add, and Herbig looks like a nice depth piece (and it’s possible he wins a starting role), but if anything, our run blocking might be worse this year without Cosmi. So to me the priority is beefing up the oline. Of course, it’s not necessarily an either or option, I’d like to address both issues.

It’s obvious the Eagles view Hurts as a liability. They really did put a straitjacket on him this season and made him into a game manager. He still isn’t good against pressure and makes bad mistakes when a team can generate it against him.

Boston College's Ezeiraku is an interesting prospect that may very well be there when we pick 29th. I like his bend and ability to beat the T around the edge. He also has a sick swim move to the inside that he used quite a bit. Has a nice array of moves and counter moves.

I’m not sure if he is or isn’t, which is my biggest concern. He was good early in the season. Then he was actively bad later in the season. It’s almost like he intentionally ran away from holes, couldn’t get through a hole, or got brought down by limited contact.

So, the question is, which BRob do we get?

I’m not really willing to gamble the entire running game we get early season BRob. Which is why I want them to draft a guy who could be a compliment to Ekler and better than CRod.

I think that fear is exactly why we need to upgrade.

We don't know.

In some respects, BRob had the easiest job on the offense. Everyone on D was so concerned with spying Daniels and not getting beat by him that he should have been able to shred some holes. Instead, he got worse as the year went along. I attributed that to injuries and fear of fumbling, but if SIP is right and he was inconsistent all year long even before the injuries then his decline makes even less sense.

The why doesn't actually matter though. He lost "it" and so we need to upgrade. If BRob beats out the competition then that's a win, but last year showed we should not be content with how running back group.

He also fits so many of the personal and physical characteristics and qualities looked for to be a Commander

It's funny that we think we all have that (what it means to be a Commander) locked down after one year.

I don't know that we could have defined it in year four of Shanny, Gruden, or Rivera.

He wasn't always good in the beginning of the season either. But the running game in general was strong because between Daniels and Ekeler, the running game as a whole was statisitically very strong. Ekeler really was the dude that started strong and faded towards the end of the season but had a great game against the Lions in the playoffs.

Brain's season in order:
Bad game
Very good game
Bad game
Very good game
Bad game
Good game
so so game
so so game
Bad game
Very good game
so so game to below average
Bad game
Good game
Bad game

And he missed 3 games. I think the feeling that he started strong is because he had two of his best games in a 3 game stretch early. I had to go back and think about it and go through the numbers to recall the games so I get the vibe that he started strong. But as I digested it more it brought me back to the roller coaster season was from the jump. lol, it brought back among other things my memory of baking in the heat in Tampa and posting about how bad Robinson was in that game.

The Eagles game I get why it felt it was a game changer for him. He shot his mouth off about how Washington was better than Philly then turned in a dud game to back it up. It was a low moment for him. But it wasn't a good season that was derailed by that game.

My point is he's an inconsistent singles hitter with or with out that bad Eagles game, its just clearly who he is IMO. i don't think he's a good singles hitter whose career might have been thrown off track by that game against Philly. The game against Philly is unique in that he doesn't fumble a ton. But being a bad singles hitter is something that comes and goes with Robinson and was evident from game 1 last season. Good one week, bad another, is sort of his story.

James Pearce: There are rumors that Pearce had some of the worst interviews at the combine and he had a former high school teammate come out and say he had serious anger issues and wasn’t a very good person. Rumors about his work ethic and if he really loves football have also surfaced.

We don't know what they tried to do Bulldog - come on - you're piling on now. I actually think this draft may prove to be extremely solid - maybe one of the best in recent memory. I'm sure Peters is aware of where our weaknesses are. You can't upgrade every position in a single draft and free agency. It's just not possible. Nor do we have unlimited funds in a given offseason. You've mentioned the Sinnott thing at least 3-4 times already. Maybe he was dinged - who knows?

I think Oronde Gadsden II Syracuse could be an interesting flyer for us mid-round wise.

I read that article last night/early this morning and moved Pearce and Green off my board begrudgingly.

I was also going to post in response to burgold 's earlier message. It shows what AP was looking for. Also we have had many tweets and interviews where AP and Whitt have openly expressed what they look for in players. We really have not had that with past regimes and quite frankly, most of them had no clue WTF they were doing anyways

Yeah the only thing amiss in that article is according to one beat guy who did the math -- its not ANY two meetings but its the combine formal meeting AND another meeting.

Clearly though alas we don't know al the combine meetings they've done.

But yeah: Conerly, L. Jackson, Amos, Higgins, Bowman, Oladejo. Noel (which the article didn'tt mention).Jordan James, Woody Marks, Milum are strong candidates.
