The 2025 Draft Thread

I think part of the argument here is that we traded for Tunsil and Samuel.

That's enough draft picks given up in trades.

Now we need to focus on the draft and making some other mid-tier free agent signings.

We need to stay away from any more splash trades where we give up a #1 or #2 pick in 2025 or 2026.

The Eagles and other rivals in the NFC are stocking picks and we need to get younger.

Washington is actually one of the older teams in the league now.

Lets play a little game:

Assume we trade down from our first round pick a couple times to the 43rd pick in the draft.
We pick up an additional two picks giving us 4 picks in the top 85.

Lets say 43, 61, 67, and 85

How do you configure your 4 selections from the list below... Edge/ CB/ WR/ DT/ OT/ RB/ S

Yes some of these picks will not be there 43-85 but for sake of this exercise all these guys are there when we select.

I'm interested to see your position selection and then your actual selections and thought process.... Thanks for playing..

As you can see the DT's dropped a bit as did potentially some DE's and CB's depending on the rankings you use.

Are all of these players available for us to pick them in whatever order (i.e., EDGE, CB, S, RB, OT, DT, WR) or do we need to consider their draft order projection?

Hail Raiser I hear you, and ideally we could stockpile picks and build the team for when we have to pay Daniels about 20% of the cap. I get that.

However.

That's going to take too long because we have a situation RIGHT NOW where the window is wide open. If we were to accumulate picks and draft, you have to wait 2-3 years at the minimum to see the final fruits of that labor. We'd have a very young team and would, at least in my opinion, somewhat waste the next 2 years.

I'm not in favor of doing what the Rams did (thought it won them a SB) and basically not draft anybody of consequence for half a decade.

But I also think you have to treat draft picks as assets.

The other thing to keep in mind, the average tenure of a 5th round pick is something like 2 years. And it gets worse from there. So, in theory, the majority of the players picked in the 5th, 6th, and 7th rounds probably won't even be here by the time we have to pay Daniels.

And the hit rate of any draft pick is sketchy. And we hurt our re-build through the draft by making the NFCCG and picking 29th. (Which, I'll take 10 times out of 10.)

Yeah, the Eagles are set up because they've been a well run organization for 20+ years. We've been the pits of the world for 20+ years.

We need to draft players, develop them, hit on draft picks, and over time, it will be ok. But for now, if you can get a consensus top 5 LT, you do it. A 5th for Deebo? Yeah, that's fine. The Lattimore trade is the one where you have to wonder about because his play at the end of last year was inconsistent at best, and terrible at worst.

All this to say, we have 2 impact draft picks and a mid-round (4th) pick this year right now. We need to address the premier positions with those picks as best as possible. We're going to have to live with trading some mid to late round picks for older players, and we're going to have to live with picking older players in FA, because that's what's there to do.

I think another thing to think about is when the season ended most of us would say we had two blue chip players. If we were being more generous, we might include Wagner to McLaurin and Daniels and say we had three. Now, we have between 4-6 players that opposing coordinators need to account for and gameplan for.

So, that's a decent improvement.

No team gets and stays good trading draft picks. Are we trying to be a good team in the next two years and then suck again? That's what it feels like to me. However we're not the best team in our division.

We're building a team that might hang with thye eagles this year or next, while they have 6 picks in the top 100 and their offensive stars signed until 2029.

Yes all of them are available when we select at 43, you should consider their projections as you continue to select.

Just talking aloud but I get the Snyder era fear of we're relying too heavily on FA's to fill out the roster perspective. I've read on a few occasions how some feel Lattimore's likely cooked at this stage and may have to switch positions - we'll see. It seems plausible that Deebo & Tunsil can still provide value for the next 2-3 years. I hope we can trade down but Captain Obvious says you need to build the foundation of your team with the draft. We're not there IMO. I think Chris Rodriguez needs more snaps too.
With the failures in the draft under the previous admin the team had to trade to get a solid player. With the cap going up 40 million the last two years it made it easy for teams to resign their own young freeagents

I'll share mine once a few people have done it.

My picks would be:

43. Maxwell Hairston or Azareye'h Thomas CB
61. Jayden Higgins WR
67. Quinshon Judkins RB
85. Shemar Turner or Kevin Winston Jr if available

Are these pass rushers bonafide difference makers at these draft positions? I'm not sure at all.

That's why i leaned towards potential Studs on the offensive side of the ball.
I think I'd rather swing on making this offense absolutely bonkers special with these additions.

Interested to see how you guys feel about the choices available.

Tranquilo amigo. We hear you and agree with you. We ain't there yet, this is year 2

I simulated those picks on PFF

Really want one of Thomas, Hairston, or Porter at CB....and one of the Jewels of the RB's Judkins, Henderson, Hampton..... Those are the two positions and guys I want the most in this scenario.
I can live with the rest being different. That is what I would really be shooting for if I was Peters. I'm sure he's got his must haves too.

Trading out of the first allows this. If we dont, the whole board shifts to 75-140 targets which are good too, but it changes the calculus. Will be interesting how we feel about it come draft day.

I think that is possible. I will try to get in those areas without forcing trades on pff

Top 20 OG’s to my eyes (there are a crap ton of solid Day 3/UDFA types in this class and I mean a crap ton)

  1. Tate Ratledge Georgia *Clear alpha in this group to my eyes with an insane RAS score; Needs work in the hands department but stout; excellent in the power/zone run game and can hold his own in pass pro; not sure if versatile enough to play outside though
  2. Jonah Savaiinaea Arizona *Played mostly RT struggles with power but excellent hands and feet; better zone than power blocker; personally think he COULD be eaten alive by NFL pass rushers at OT but perhaps coaching could help; excellent potential though long term
  3. Donovan Jackson Ohio State *Not quite as explosive as I remember watching a couple years ago but filled in for Simmons @ LT after he went down admirably by accounts; good with power/bull rush struggles with inside speed
  4. Marcus Mbow Purdue *Underrated prospect in my eyes; Exceptional spatial awareness, lateral ability, great zone blocker, excellent feet, redirect and mirror ability very fast off the snap can play both inside and out at a high-level IMO
  5. Tyler Booker Alabama *Disastrous RAS score with a tendency to lunge forward, still my eyes say he will be a solid OG with staying power even he if he is likely to fall out of 1st round consideration
  6. Dylan Fairchild Georgia *Has the potential to be a great one ala Sherff potential ; excellent zone and power blocking; strong hands, good in pass pro maybe needs a bit stronger core
  7. Wyatt Milum West Virginia *Better in pass pro than run game but solid in zone blocking; short arms will likely kick him inside and he does struggle with speed & power inside moves
  8. Jackson Slater Sacramento State *Underrated in all aspects
  9. Marcus Wehr Montana State *Under the radar type; a technician
  10. John Williams Cincinnati *OT but likely does not the feet for an NFL not that he is dead-footed by any means but could be a fantastic OG and affords excellent versatility; his game film is much better than Senior Bowl reps imo
  11. Luke Kandra Cincinnati *Underrated athlete needs work in spatial awareness but looks like a plug-n-play OG prospect to my eyes
  12. Jalen Rivers Miami *Much better than I expected had him pegged as an OG only type initially; gets dinged for footwork and stiff hips but my eyes say otherwise; long arms excellent versatility; better in pass pro than run blocking
  13. Connor Colby Iowa *Excellent zone & power run blocker needs coaching up in the pass pro department
  14. Clay Webb Jacksonville State *Versatile OG/OC type better in run block than pass protection but solid; short arms can struggle with power
  15. Caleb Rogers Texas Tech *Underrated in all aspects; very versatile OL can play any position – any scheme imo
  16. Tyler Cooper Minnesota *Underrated versatility OT/OG great zone blocker solid all around sleeper potential
  17. Luke Newman Michigan State *Better in zone than power blocking; good athlete solid all around to my eyes
  18. Hayden Conner Texas *Solid all around
  19. Torricelli Simpkins III South Carolina *Center/OG versatility; nasty demeanor solid zone blocker and all around; could be a sleeper for some team
  20. Marcus Tate Clemson *Tools for days OG/OT versatility but injury history is a knock could be a sleeper pick for some team

Tied: Miles Frazier LSU * Garrett Dellinger LSU * Drew Moss Colorado State * Michael Ford Jr. Kansas * Mehki Butler Arkansas State (legit sleeper potential) * Jack Conley Boston College * Addison West Western Michigan *Great Day 3 under the radar sleeper pick imo

I think we can fill all holes in the draft with quality players but would love to see us sign one of the older edge's --

Za'Darius Smith, or Von Miller

So this was the round 2 trade with Philly last year. How do you guys see translating to what we have in draft capital this year to what we can get by trading down from 29th pick without looking at Mock Draft sites? There were lots of swapping the picks here and I know we don't have 3rd rd pick this year.
