It’s a fine line to try to navigate - balancing winning now and sustainability, and I’d say there’s certainly a chance Peters is not succeeding at it.

With that said, I think you’re comparing apples and oranges IMO. The Eagles, as much as it pains me, have a top 2 roster, minimum. They’ve had organizational stability, and that’s not just Roseman, but all the way down to area scouts, even if they’ve lost some guys to other opportunities along the way. And yet, they too have traded away good draft picks - for Brown, Dejean, Dotson, to name a few. They also accrue picks by trading players, something we haven’t really had the luxury to do yet given the state of our roster, not to mention comp picks. Looking at our roster, I’m not sure we have anyone that should be extended through 2029.

Personally, I’m more interested in looking at the wins, and I don’t just mean the record. We’ve got guys on staff that garnered interest from other teams, yet we kept the band together. We have some succession plans for coaches and FO staff. We’re building out our analytics and scouting depts. We’ve got a culture that other players want to join, that helped take our lackluster roster to the NFCCG. We’re not mortgaging the future cap-wise. We have a franchise qb. And so on. So no, we’re not the Eagles, but we’ve made a shit ton of progress in a year.

If it’s all about the draft picks, well there’s a lot of volatility there, and I don’t just mean in hit rate. One trade down this year could net us a 2nd next year that could be higher than our actual (traded away) selection, which would give us a full draft next year. Or Payne produces and we trade him for a 2nd rounder. We could well be dipping our toes into the comp pool starting next year too. Point belong, while the angst is understandable (I’m a little squeamish myself about trading away picks), I’d say let’s just see how it plays out. Peters (and Quinn) has said sustainability is important… I’m going to take him at his word there - he hasn’t given me a reason not to trust him to this point (quite the opposite in fact).

Just my 2 cents anyway. 🤷‍♂️

And it can't be all about the draft picks. I mean look at the Redskins under Snyder. We were endlessly picking in the top of the draft. Look at the top of the draft and you will see the same teams drafting year after year after year. Next look at the bottom of the draft and you'll see the same teams have clustered there for more then ten years. Some with a full boatload of draft picks and some with very few. The Patriots, even post-Brady, seemed to have between 10 and fifteen picks a draft. So having high draft picks or a huge number of draft picks isn't the entirety of the story. It isn't even the sum of the story. Both can be a part of the story and certainly help, but it's not as clean cut.

I'd agree with the point in a vaccum. Of the moves they made the one I question is Lattimore. Will see how that plays out but that one involved dealing mostly with draft pick surpluses. A 5th rounder for Deebo is nothing. Eagles trade picks at times -- depends to them on context. The Eagles struggled to find a #1 WR, so they ultimately said screw it and dealt their number 1 for AJ Brown.

An elite Left tackle has become the biggest unicorn in the NFL aside of course from a franchise QB. And having one changes the offense. Especially for someone like Jayden and this offense. Jayden looks so often to the right and seems to get hit from his left. The strong side (mostly the right side) usually has the blocking TE to help. And not having the WR chip on the left side, too helps the offense -- let alone Jayden not getting hit from his blind side. It allows them to move Coleman who I think will be good at another spot and in turn likely strengthens 40% of their O line.

When I was projecting this team going forward, I was just accepting that LT would likely be mediocre at best. And we would be one of the rare contenders (hopefully) without our Wirfs, Mailata, Trent, Sewell, etc. Bad draft for tackles and were picking late. And good chance it repeats itself next year. And FA typically sucks at left tackle. So lol it would be one weapon that the typical contenders has and that we don't.

But now that has changed. And I am blown away. How often do you see Vegas SB odds change after an acquistiom? Now it feels like they can build a legit SB roster. It feels like having a great LT, just comes with the turf for many strong contenders. And now we got one, too.

Not having a 3rd and 5th round pick is what we are talking about this year and the Wirfs deal didn't really effect our current year draft capital much. So lets say we can't get our McCaffrey and McGee. And next year can't get our Sinnott and lets say Dominque Hampton. I think an elite LT is worth that and much more.

And this is assuming that Peters isn't successful accuring more picks. Will see.

But yeah Peters inherited a weird situation. A roster with little talent as to youth. The defense was built on grossly overpaying an underachieving DT and another who was past their prime. O line was bad. No weapons aside Terry. No TE. Terrible Lbs. A bad secondary.

And if you look at the roster now, after an off season and half, you got plenty talking about them going to a SB. They can't really slow build this ship because the ship is already crusing the world so you got to fortify it now.
 
I am very happy with the Tunsil trade. I do agree however that AP needs accumulate some picks for this year and if he can push one out to replenish last year, great!

AP has had a pretty good history with later round picks. I think he ends out with a few 6th and 7th rounders this year and next

Yeah, I know how important LT is and how hard they are to find.

I'm great with spending a ton of FAs, but trading picks to get older is questionable.
 
It’s not that difficult. Trade down and recoup some of the assets you have given to get the players. Nothing to stress too much about right now.

Of course you are right - the idea of 'trading back' is always mentioned but as we've seen in previous drafts, it is not always possible. I do think having a 1st rounder late in the round makes it more likely. At that point in the draft most of the 'sure fire' sexy picks have been made, and teams are focused on grabbing someone there who wasn't expected to be available. Because we are near the end of the round, there is a mindset of 'if we don't move up to grab 'player X' at the end of the 1st round, someone else will steal him on day 2. There is also the desire to have a 5th year option which also helps. I think it's much more likely we are able to find a trade down partner at pick 29 than it would be if our pick were earlier in the 1st round.

Riggo's Rag has a great mock IMO for us:

#29 Jihaad Campbell (they think he'll be long gone and I tend to agree) I had Carson ever so slighty ahead because of his cover ability and the fact that I blended the OLB/ILB group because the ILB group is pretty weak overall but Jihaad Campbell is likely the best pure LB in this class. This dude is good and that's an understatement.

I think my (unrealistic) favored scenario is for Jaxon Dart to make it to 29 and for us to trade him for a 2026 1st round pick and a 2025 third round pick.

Being what I think is realistic based on where they'd fall.

43: Landon Jackson (almost took Henderson, I think he's gone before our next pick despite some of the mocks) Torn between those two players. I think the best DT left here is TJ Sanders who I also considered.

61: Norman-Lott. I think he's in this range. I'd consider JT if he fell this far. If Tutledge falls, one of my favorites in the draft, I'd be torn between him and Norman-Lott.

67: Torn between Skattebo, Tuten, RJ Harvey, Giddens. I am still digesting the RBs and I like all of them for different reasons. I dug Tuten well before his killer combine -- I know some mocks consider him to be a 5th, etc but I am betting they are wrong. Skattebo I want to see what he runs. I know some hate the idea for a power back and I prefer speed too. but the idea of Skattebo and Deebo in the backfield would be tone setters -- be fun. Giddens IMO might be the most underrated RB in the draft. He might be who I'd take here. I know mocks have him later will see. Love RJ Harvey, am partial to him because one of my kids goes to his school and I watched a lot of him. Him I can see fall though later in the draft because he's a bit older.

85. Maybe Peebles, DT, maybe Dorian Strong, CB.

FAs they are doing it conservatively, some think too conservatively. Short contracts, low guaranteed money. With FA, the idea of going older, comes with the turf typically.

They still have plenty of picks.

Sinnott has the excuse of Ertz just being Jayden's favorite and Bates solidifying that Donnie Warren role. Luke needed just to be better than OZ, Crowder, and Noah Brown... and he couldn't do it. He couldn't earn snaps.

The weird thing is, I always kept hearing about how McCaffrey was opening, but for whatever reason Jayden never found him and even weirder, McCaffrey was the one player whose throws from Jayden often felt off target which makes me think he wasn't where Jayden expected him to be or where he expected him to get to.

McCaffrey was in on 36% of offensive snaps, Sinnott 26%. The concern for both was snaps actually declined in the last third of the season. Also when they were in they were just not getting targets in the passing game.

Big offseason for both guys - we have to hope the experience they gained and a full year in an NFL program plus second year in an offense gives them a sophomore boost.

To the central point we need picks like this to become solid contributors.

Yes. They’ve been a little conservative for me.

We needed an established pass rusher and we’ve basically done nothing. Maybe Sweat and Mack and Reddick etc just weren’t worth it and wouldn’t actually have been that big an upgrade. At least resign Fowler then.

I just don’t see how you can basically have zero pass rush threats and go into the draft picking 29, and expect to go to the Super Bowl. Has any team ever, like, ever ever, won a Super Bowl with this little talent in terms of pass rushers? And if that’s not the goal, why give up the draft capital for lol of these trades we’ve made?

I also don’t know that I feel like we have, “plenty of picks”. Think that 3 picks in the 1st five rounds is a little rough.

I don’t hate what they’ve done. I LOVE the Tunsil trade and think that could outweigh every single other move.

I just don’t see us as a legit Super Bowl contender unless things magically come together in terms of finding some guys that can get to to QB reliably.

Those elite/plus pass rushers typically come in the first couple of rounds though. Not always - but you increase your odds. We have not traded away our first or second round picks this year - decent chance one of those picks goes on someone who is primarily a pass rush threat.

I totally agree we need a couple of blue chip players at least on a D that lacks that kind of player. Mainly through wasted draft picks on the Rivera era (Young and Davis spring to mind!)
 
Just surmising but I think DE/LB/DB will be the primary target with our first pick unless a stud OT falls and I'd even consider RB personally. We've had a formal team meeting with Ohio State Edge JT Tuimoloau whom I really like, but perhaps Oregon's Jordan Burch could be in play. I think he's the better prospect of the 2 - not night and day'ish but a pretty good gap for me. I think Burch would be a good addition to our DL.

Thanks for playing man. .. very very interesting picks!

Lots of the guys you picked are “supposed” to go later in the simulator I use, but I love to see the thought process of DE DT RB and Dt/CB and where everyone thinks their guys will go.

I could see us doing something like you suggested. Nothing would surprise me.
 
skinsinparadise (and anybody else who wants to answer), if I put a gun to your head and said "THOUGH SHALT DRAFT A WEAPON IN THE 4TH ROUND!" which direction would you go.

I get BPA and all that, but I'm just going to guess, unless there is a trade down, we're going to go edge, CB or OL with our first 2 picks. Just a hunch where BPA and position value are going to intersect.

We currently don't have a 3rd. I kindof think we're going to end up with a 3rd, but I don't have a DeLorean time machine, so I'm not going to predict a trade.

I want a weapon, either RB or WR, who can stretch the field and be a threat to a defense. The place I think we'd get that would be the 4th round.

So, who's makes the most sense?
 
That weapon for me would be:

WR Kyle Williams Washington State; Jaylin Lane VaTech or maybe Isaiah Neyor Nebraska could be too high but he's a definite riser
RB Woody Marks, Tuten, Judkins, Giddens, Sampson but good chance they're gone in the 3rd all of them - Donovan Edwards, Trevor Etienne or Raheim Sanders next up.
