The 2025 Draft Thread

On the 2024 QB Draft talk, I would actually be a bit surprised if McCarthy doesn’t have at least a solid year this coming year.

- Basically got to sit and take mental reps for a year, which he probably needed given the lack of college experience
- I believe the injury was a meniscus vs a more major knee injury so he should physically be okay
- Minnesota has a loaded roster including offensively
- After the season Darnold had last year, KOC is truly a QB whisperer

Based on how Darnold played down the stretch in high pressure games including the playoff last year I wouldn't have given him a big contract either and gone with McCarthy for 2025.

Butler?

Dude has been around for several years now and hasn't done a thing.

Would actually be amazing if he turns out and naturally Rivera will be jonesing for his SB ring.

I remember thinking Butler showed a little something at one point, Weren't our safties at one point Kurl and Butler? I think he fell out of favor once he got hurt or benched and had a hard time earning his way back on the field.

Butler has always been in a shadow though.

Under Rivera he was buried behind Curl and Forrest, though he started 15 games in 23 because Forrest got hurt.

Last year, Quan stepped up and Chinn was locked in at SS.

I still wonder, is his fate directed more toward starting safety, or premium Special Teamer?

Quan (IMHO) is locked in at starting, and i imagine so is Will Harris.... though i think Harris is vulnerable to be overtaken, more than Quan at least.

Liked hearing that Sinnott had a good off season but... not that TE University is the be all and end all. But if Sinnott's issue -- as Paulsen has hinted -- is not being assignment sound. He's not where he's supposed to be on plays. Juxtapose that with Jayden who runs though even the practice plays at 5 am so by the time he's on the field for practice its all rote to him -- makes me wonder a little about Sinnott not showing up to this especially with Tyree Jackson and Cole Turner going to it. Both Tyree and Turner seems to intrigue Logan from what he's seen this far in practice.

I agree, but my question is what is he doing instead? Is this the only place for TE specific training, or is it just the most famous because of who runs it?

I get what you’re saying, but there’s obviously no better place to be during this for a TE than there, right? Cole Turner is there lol, they obviously let anyone attend. I do think it’s concerning Sinnott is not there and you could take all day dreaming up an ideal alternative training regimen for him and I doubt I’d consider it “better” than being with his teammates at this specific camp, no matter what else he’s doing.

It’s not the end of the world but I think it’s far more likely he probably booked a conflicting vacation with his family ahead of time and didn’t realize. And that’s fine, but it’s not good.

Well, I don’t know if there’s a better place, that’s what I’m asking! 😁 Maybe it’s the only place I have no idea. But yeah, you would think not only to be with his teammates, but also it looks like most of the good TE’s around the NFL are there. Seems like the place to be if you consider yourself with an NFL tight end so yeah, absolutely he should be there regardless. Disappointing that he’s not.

Right, I got what you were saying I was just musing that I don’t think we could even dream up an acceptably “better” or equivalent activity he could be doing to grow his game lol

Maybe if he was training individually every day with Tony Gonzalez or something

Well, there you go, you just dreamed one up! You’re always going to get more out of a private lesson than one with a big group, and Tony Gonzalez is one of the best who ever played the position.

All joking aside though, he should definitely be there mingling with all of the other TEs around the NFL not doing something on his own or going on vacation. It’s another log on the fire of him looking like a draft bust.

I. Want to disagree about the importance of Sinnott being there, but that’s the same thing I did with Chase Young. It’s not like he had 100 catches last year.

Logan Paulsen has repeatedly talked about being worried about Sinnott as a contributor, and he’s around the team a lot.

I think with the lack of performance, the decreased playing time as the year went on, being rumored not to be assignment sound, not being at the TE camp. There is just too much smoke for there not to be any fire.

I don’t necessarily fault them. I don’t know that Nix is anything other than a great game manager and I don’t think most people had Penix that high, and he hasn’t yet justified that. McCarthy reportedly looked great before his injury, and Peter’s was rumored to have McCarthy as his 2nd ranked QB, but he hasn’t shown it in the regular season yet. If the Giants didn’t like this 3 guys, and the goal is the SB, maybe grab an eite talent and then continue the tank.

But, I don’t know that that’s how they saw it. They signed a bunch of QB’s, their coaching and FO staff’s jobs are on the line. I think they will push for every win and have a slightly less than mediocre ceiling, and miss out on the top QB’s again.

This is the situation where, I don’t want my GM making moves to preserve his job for this year. Would have been better to move on, probably.
The thing about the Giants taking Nabers, which is what makes it so much more fun for us, is that they didn't just go WR in an amazing QB draft, they also doubled down on Jones, while letting Barkley walk to a SB with a division rival.

They fucked up in every possible way.

Jones, Nabers, Tracey (who I like)
Vs
JJ/Nix/etc/ Slayton/Barkley

You intentionally got worse and sold your future.

They gave Slayton more money than Barkley was asking for…

Oh, my God. That’s so funny. And choosing to lean into Daniel Jones? All of us goofed on them when they drafted Jones, and they still couldn’t figure it out that far into the experiment?

I remember after his first season when lots of sports media people were screaming about "Danny Dimes" and how everyone who trashed the pick were idiots. There was one time that a PFF guy went on to one of those shows (can't remember which) and basically said "Um, just hold up a bit, guys. Daniel Jones literally had the most turnover worthy plays of any starting QB in the NFL this season. He got insanely lucky many times. Let's wait for another year or two before crowning him" and he was immediately shouted down.

🤣🤣🤣

Florio sucks so much that I can’t even describe it. This is his second article I’ve read since the draft complaining about how unfair the NFL draft is to the players. That they should be able to choose where they can go and play.

It’s like he’s not even a football fan. The draft is what makes the league work. And every pro sports league has a draft. Because they have to. Would football be better if the top prospects all went to the same 8-10 teams every year?

Get your name out there anyway possible I guess. Loud, wrong, and stupid seems to be Florio’s strategy.
