In fairness it was Carlos Rodgers over Aaron Rodgers. We traded back into the 1st right behind where Aaron Rodgers got picked, for Jason Campbell. But yeah, that was a blunder. Also league wide groupthink that somehow the pre-draft consensus QB1 had warts.

The Packers almost didn't pick Rodgers either. They were in love with DeMarcus Ware and had a trade up for him if he fell further. But then Dallas grabbed him.

But I'll say Jay aged OK in my book as to his tenure -- especially compared to Ron thus far.

Ron was a flag waving Dan Snyder fan right to the end and beyond. He finally bailed on Dan a little in his multiple attempts to spin his tenure here when he said he didn't want the power here but was subjected to it and leaked to his pal Mike Silver was hard to win under this ownership. This is after him saying the complete opposite multiple times prior.

Ron is like a dude running a restaurant who was flagged for a zillion health violations but is constant public denial and is trying to sell that he's incredible at his job and others let him down and now that the new owner of the restaurant is killing it, he has much to do with their success. It's really nauseating.

Jay is the opposite. Hey we did this well with the restautrant but on that front we sucked. He's not blaming anyone for anything and comes off really humble and at times funny in doing so. He doesn't have Dan's back to say the least. He sort of gets the fan point of view about this organization while Ron would be the dude who openly whined about getting the fans back but had IMO zero understanding of why fans were bailing and in turn just made it worse.

Ron is so convinced he can burnish his reputation that he won't let go. Or it's that he can't help himself. To me it makes him come off a bit like a loser.

lol, Jay for the ups and downs, is still the only HC under Dan who can ever say he won two seasons in a row.
 
Re our draft picks, I found it interesting that in Joe Whitt’s conference, he said he didn’t know if Kain Medrano was a safety like Chinn, or whether he might be a Luvu, suggesting some pass rush potential. I’m curious to see how that turns out.

He certainly has the potential to be either one, or both. But for now he’s neither, and that’s probably the most likely outcome unless he can make some significant strides in his tackling. I’m hoping for the best, but expecting very little out of the pick. He’s a long shot like pretty much anyone selected in that range of the draft. So if we can get him on the field at any point as a productive linebacker or safety, we should be thrilled.

Agree. I was just thinking about him in the Chinn role, and the idea of Medrano having to tackle Barkley in the open field, with nobody behind him, is terrifying.

He had some sacks, I recall seeing one in one of my watches after the draft. He's the only player they drafted that i didn't watch before the draft. He is a bad tackler, not hard to see why when watching him, he does it awkwardly, doesn't really bend much, looks upright when doing it. But if they can fix his tackling, he's a good blitzer, good in coverage, and more



I am also intrigued by Keim saying how Croskey-Merritt is always pushing forward on every play, reminds him of Alfred Morris on that front. And they had some sort of speed contest and Croskey-Merritt one that. And his physique is impressive.

Also intrigued by this, considering Schrager is close to Kingsbury.

Keim was talking about seeing them try Owens some in that role yesterday. Also mentioned Medrano. Should be interesting.
 
Medrano needs to pick up some weight if he wants to play linebacker in the NFL.

Hopefully he wants to be more than a third down guy that comes in to cover the TE.

Modrano is listed as 230?

Speaking of weight, what's interesting is going to be Nolan Smith being a full-time DE for the Eagles. He is listed at 238
 
At 6 3 230 it wouldn't hurt to add a few pounds especially considering his speed. It isn't really necessary though. He does however need to improve his tackling!!!
 
The Jaylin Lane bit is assumed (imo). I doubt he's as productive as a rookie as the veteran Olamide Zaccheus was. But a lot of what Kingsbury had him do, Lane did in college.

So he'll be featured in a lot of misdirection and other things to create space or leverage for the primary read. It's a natural fit.

I'll be surprised, happily, if Lane carves out real production for himself and not just helping the rest of the offense function.

Zaccheus had 500+ yards, he had the 3rd most targets on the team. That won't be Lane as a rookie, especially with Deebo on the roster.
 
Hopefully Lane can fill most of Zaccs shoes as a receiver and excel in the return game. That amount of contribution from a rookie 4th rounder would be more than anyone expects

He weighed in at the combine at 222 pounds. Its definitely possible he has put on some weight in 3.5 months since the combine. Its also possible the 230 is just a listed weight that a slight inflation of his actual weight. The truth is we don't really know what he weights. For prototype size in the NFL probably about 235 is idea for an off ball linebacker. Both Roquan Smith and Fred Warner weighed 236 at their combines. But you can definitely be smaller. Zach Baun is in that 230 range (or slightly lower). If you have good length, you can still shed blocks okay at a smaller size. Medrano has 32 inch arms which is fairly standard but maybe an inch less than your ideal LB.

If you are going to run a bunch of WR screens, swing passes, and short game, why not do that with a physical, 4.3 guy? Lane seems custom made to be easily integrated into that part of the offense. I'd imagine he'll see a bunch of action in that part of the offense, and we will gradually work on refining his route running and building from there. We have 3 guys now, that are a danger to turn any short pass into an explosive play, Terry, Deebo, and Lane. Why would you want to hit Noah Brown, for instance, on a WR screen, when you have these other guys that have the juice to break it?

What would be amazing if Bill turned out to be another Brandon Coleman.

A lot of us, me included, were so frustrated with Peters for not addressing LT (in a great tackle draft when that was a top need) and then they snagged this guy named Colemanin the third round. I was relieved at least we got one... and then he turned out to be good enough to hold the fort and is projected to be a long term starter (maybe at guard?)

So many of us really wanted to upgrade running back and here comes a great running back draft only for Peters to ignore running back, this time all the way to the seventh round. If Peters pulls another rabbit out of his hat and finds a starter...

Anyway, I have high hopes for the kid because I love his story, who he seems to be, and because I want a running back that defenses need to worry about.
