The 2025 Draft Thread

We can do what the Eagles did last year and double up for all I care. Grab Higgins and Thornton.

I'm on the table for Thornton. Our top 2 WRs are old and on the way out. We need two studs and if all Thorn does is go routes, that's cool with me, because Daniels will hit him every single time.

Green is the sexual predator, right? That's a hard NO. Pearce is just anti social? So am I, that's not a big deal.

SIP, just read your last post. Hadn't heard some of the additional rumors you mentioned on Pearce. Like I said, if he or Green are clean, I take them. If there is any truth not being coachable I remove either or both of them from my board

I got no idea personally of course. But listening and watching and various podcasts, different things have popped up. With Green multiple incidents that required him to be transferred, it doesn't feel great, but wow if they believe he's OK character wise and he drops, he IMO would be perfect. I like him as a player over Pearce.

With Pearce, it seems more vague and centers on locker room stuff.

As I mentioned, next week I believe the McGinn stuff comes out. McQueen back in the day used to hate it when I disclosed those comments because he thought some of the comments were over the top and cruel. And sometimes it would rain on the parade of players people liked. I recall for example (RIP) some of them weren't high on Haskins and his work ethic, I recall them saying Braeden Daniels had the lowest wonderlic score among o lineman and it was abysmally low. Not that I agree with all of their assessments. But the gossip about character tends to be on the money so will see what they say about Pearce.

Yeah like I said, I was thinking the same and did hear Paulsens discussion. To me it makes total sense to me to grab a specialist and would allow you potentially to drop a round on edge if looked that way with tweener options. Most all of the options do not fit APs criteria and a note, I don't recall being good against the run fitting his criteria even though it seems like it should. That's especially true after dealing with a dude like Chase who was a freaking gigantic disappointment for Washington.

I also am a huge fan of Jackson but kind of like him better moving around and inside on 3rd downs to allow a rush specialist to hit the edge. With all of the FA moves with the DL I am thinking he makes as much sense as he did. If they are clean I am still coveting Pearce and Green at 29. Of course my belief is the players with the highest grade at 29 will be WR, OL and DB

I associate long arms typically as big dudes who set the edge. As much as i like Jackson, if they trade down in the 2nd and its him and Higgins, I'd go Higgins.

The more I dive into this, I think i like the early 2nd better for WR than i do edge factoring depth. With edge in the third-4th -- guys like Princely, Swinson, Kennard, Stewart, Walker feel in the same strata to me as the ones mentioned in the 2nd.

I'd do a deep dive though on Scourton. If I picked up on this right, he won't do athletic drills which to me is a red flag albiet I do like what i saw when I watched him. I always think if I dude refuses to run, they've practiced the 40 and when their agent learns of their time they advise them not to run because they suspect it will lower their draft stock.

If the decision were mine I'd at least entertain the thought of a modest trade up for Tate.
I love Tate, he definitely will be on my short list if we do a my guys list like the past.

But I don't think I'd trade up for him. Judging by most mocks, they won't have to. But even if they did, with so few picks, I wouldn't want to make that worse.

When I do the mock simulators for example, I like what's there in the 6th. The 7th gets really thin. I'd assume to trade up in the 2nd, it would be the 6th at a minimum and probably change with it, maybe another pick from 2026.

I should have prefaced it with if we did an initial trade down to acquire more picks and then entertain the thought :) I agree we need to focus on getting more and not less.

Apparently Tyler Baron and Donovan Ezeiruaku had top 30 meetings with the Eagles. Hate seeing that.

Yeah if Iwas going pure edge at 29. Ezeiruaku would be my guy if he fell. I am just expecting the Eagles to come up with a prospect we love. Roseman has been killing the draft, especially the last few years.

Mike Renner's overrated/underrated 2025 prospects. I think Renner is one of the more accurate analysts out there and find myself in agreement with him much more often than not.

Overrated:

Jalen Milroe QB Alabama (love the athlete just does not see him getting better and opines for a position change for him)
Ashton Jeanty RB Boise State (The first prospect I mentioned months back as being overrated and felt is not the RB#1 in this group - not saying he's a bad prospect though)
Nick Emmanwori S South Carolina (Again, felt the same when ranking this group with Xavier Watts as my #1)

Underrated:

Charles Grant OL William & Mary
Carson Schwesinger LB UCLA
Landon Jackson DE Arkansas

If these are true, then I don't want either one like I stated. But I give some slack until these are definitive, some will come out more with top 30 meetings and interview info comes out more. I always think back to Warren Sapp and Tunsel getting hit with late in the process by allegations.

Rumors had you as both anti social and a sexual predator. I will need to reevaluate you and maybe put you back on my board :D

EDIT-The last paragraph was pure joking! I can see how it could be misinterpreted and don't wish rumors to swirl

Assuming Coleman is the RT, dang would Tate in the 2nd cinch up the OL further infusing with incredible talent even before Cosmi's return. Future could even have him move into a C role as he had taken snaps there in college practices, workouts and preseason.

Top of the 2nd is such a glut of talent. I would be thrilled there with Higgins at WR or Jackson or Ezeiruaku (first player I mentioned in this thread) or a number of CB's or OL.

Scourtons comment about the 40 turns me off. He may very well think that way
and be correct, but you don't come out and say it. If he was the best at his position that's one thing but if there are others available, with all things being equal, I'm picking someone else. Add in effort concerns and I'm looking elsewhere.

Miami Ohio has 2 players that interest me that could be terrific Day 3 value picks - I'm sure they're others just keying in on these prospects.

LB Matt Salopek
Edge Brian Ugwu

I tend to be partial to players I mention early. I know Egbuka was early. Ditto Hampton, Henderson and Kaleb Johnson. Though the earliest player I think I mentioned for this draft was last fall, RJ Harvey.

Renner though a Notre Dame fan didn't seem too high on Watts. Thought he was good but nothing special. I heard him talk about him on a podcast. Watt's ball skills are excellent. Tackling issues and so so combine I think might drop him all the way down to our late 2nd round pick if it does I wouldn't hate it.

I don't think we are going to be able to trade back from 29 but that second, third and even fourth have so much talent at positions of need. Imagine 2 picks in the 2nd, 3rd and 4th plus a couple late (I think AP has a bunch he'd love to grab in the 6th and 7th)

This is something I wanted to mention because the lesson so many are taking from the Eagles is "build the trenches," which, yes, it's a good lesson, sure, BUT last year they hit up 2 CBs in their top 2 picks, and on offense they've got 1) a top WR they traded for in Brown, 2) a 1st round pick as #2 in Smith, 3) an RB they paid a ton and were lucky even came free, and 4) Dallas Goedert. (and a 3rd for Dotson)

They've thrown a LOT of resources at their skill positions. Now yes, they built up their lines a lot prior to that, but the team they are today, between their WRs, RBs, and CBs, includes 4 1st rounders (Brown, Barkey, Smith, Mitchell) and two 2nd rounders (Goedert and DeJean).

The Eagles are (annoyingly) one of the most complete teams in the NFL. The lesson from them is "have a stud GM who hits on every pick" and "be talented EVERYWHERE." The Chiefs are a bit more of the "build the trenches" lesson team, bc they usually pull their skill positions together with duct tape and gum.

So I don't really have an aversion to drafting skill positions highly, with the sole caveat that we are lacking a floor under edge defender/pass rusher, so I would be concerned if one of our top 2 picks didn't go towards an edge defender.

I find myself feeling like I would be disappointed if we don't take a RB by the 3rd, 4th at the latest.

One guy I haven't heard or read much on but seems to have good stats, size, speed, and doesn't fumble is Gators Montrell Johnson. Am I missing something with him or would he be a decent later round RB? 212 LB's, 5 11, 4.41 40, speed is good although not a breakaway guy, good hands, rarely has fumbled, decent receiver?

There is chance we don't take a RB until late so was just wondering about this dude. Not super exciting but seems like he'd normally be ranked higher than I have seen him.

They're also the 3rd youngest team in the league I believe and have over half of that offense, including 2 OL signed until 2029 and beyond.

Eagles are the only team with more than 2 (3) +$20m per year OL as well.

Also, by resigning Smith and Brown (highest paid WR at the time) when they did, they're spending a ton less than the Bengals are for their duo.

Yes, their first two picks were CBs, but they took 2 OL on day three. The year before they drafted Ringo and got Ricks UDFA, so CB has been a focus. That year they took DL 1rst and they took Steen at the top of the 3rd, when we should have been focused on OL and not waiting for garbage like Stromberg and Daniels on day 3 and hoping for starters. Year before they went DL and OL (a center while Kelce wasn't retiring). They drafted a C high the year before that too (along with 4 DL that draft). One of those DL is going to be a 3rd round comp pick, which is where they got him.

Before all of that, they drafted pretty badly. Howie has laid out the blue print on how to build a winner. Get your offensive fire power aggressively any way you can and then pay them to stay, always draft the trenches (doesn't have to be in the first) and attack your weaknesses.

Kyle Williams does seem like he’d be instant offense. Seems like you could plug him, run the same offense, and get a lot more explosives without Jayden, the play calling, or the OL improving at all.

Renner can be wrong once in a while :)
