I almost guarantee you we offered more - he just didn’t want to come here. Honestly guys, who would want to come to DC?
 


So given that Watson hasn't played in over a year, and a legal cloud hanging over his head, is it fair to assume that he comes at a cheaper price than Wilson?

If so, that scares me - ALOT!

I might be clouded by the fact that I am a Russell Wilson fan, but my first impression is that the cost to acquire him wasn't beyond astronomical.
 
So in addition to the draft picks, the commanders would have had to send the approximate equivalent of Henicke, Payne, and Thomas. (I think Payne is better than Harris and Fant is better than Thomas, but we will call that a wash). Could they have afforded to do that in addition to the draft picks. That’s a steep price to pay that may weaken the team overall.
 
Any possible chance of getting Wilson meant weakening the team, now, and in the future. There’s no way around that. Folks want to reassure themselves by saying Seattle didn’t want to trade him to another NFC team. If you were Wilson and could go to Denver or DC - which would you choose? I said it before, he wanted to stay West Coast. I am betting he refused to give up the no trade clause for Washington if it even got that far.
 
I wonder how much there is an element of Denver overpaying?

They were rumored to be all-in for Rodgers this year and obviously missed out on swinging for him. So, does the price they paid have anything to do with a desperation move to do something at QB? Were they simply more desperate than us?

Just a thought.

I'm now definitely leaning towards the draft now. Our veteran choices are severely limited. Only Watson has the cache as an elite QB to shift the needle for us,
So now I'm in the mindset to take a leap on Malik Willis or someone, let them sit behind a second tier vet (or Heineke) for a year, and then see what we got.
 
I think Russ and his lady wanting to stay close to the Left Coast was a major factor. I’m married. I get it.
 
They tried for a vet a few times & it didn’t work. Hopefully RR will quit messing around and just draft a guy while keeping picks where they belong.

You're right.

I was bummed out about Russell Wilson and still am to a point. That said, I will get over it fairly quickly. I just think he is a great player, and more importantly, seemingly a better person - the perfect player to serve as the posterboy for a rebrand and to help us become relevant again.

At the end of the day, if you think about this roster as it is currently constructed, and you reflect on the guys that bring us the most happiness on Sundays, I don't think it is ironic that the majority of them are our own. Jon Allen was found money at #17 in the draft. I believe he was projected to go 2nd overall in his draft year. The same goes for Terry McLaurin - we found the guy in the third round. The list goes on - guys like Holcomb and Kam Curl have turned into pretty solid players and were basically excellent value in the 5th and 7th rounds respectively.

We are desperate to be relevant again - let's get serious about doing our homework and bringing in the right drafted QB and everything will fall into place. If need be, swing for one in the draft every single year until it happens.

Right. If the team is coveting Willis they’re gonna have to trade up to get him, probably with Jax at that. You’d think they’re on the phone with Shaka Kahn right now seeing what it would take.

You guys are far better talent evaluators than I but there HAS to be someone to build around at pick 11 if a trade up falls through. I mean take a look at what Denver gave up for Wilson, and to think RW wasn’t picked until the 3rd round. Hell maybe trade down with a team and take Ridder later in the 1st or something.

This team does NOT need an all world QB running the show. They need someone who’s smart and has a decent arm. If that sleezeball Turner ever gets back to running the ball then all QB ‘X’ needs to do is put the ball where his receivers can make a play. Play action like a muthafuh!

The Washington Commanders have also had interest in Watson this offseason. The organization was researching his legal situation and reviewing his games, according to sources.

So many factors were involved in this ... clearly playing for Snyder is not something we'd offer as a plus for coming here (mega-duh), but Russ clearly wanted to stay away from the East Coast, plus ya gotta figure Seattle would rather not have had Russ in the NFC if possible.

The three firsts must have looked pretty good to ol' Pete Carroll though. Sigh.

I wonder what the general consensus among Wash fans would have been though, if we had given up 3 firsts, plus players and other picks ...

Genuine excitement, hope, intrigue.... it would have sent a jolt back into the fanbase and injected excitement... at least on social media and the radio

There would likely be a segment that was very critical of the package, but excited that a potential MVP candidate would be under center, and he could 'make up' for a large part of the shortcomings...


just a guess.

I just posted that as a gratuitous cheap shot. 😉

I would have not been happy with losing all those picks plus 3 players that Seattle viewed as favorable. Not happy at all.

A bridge FA QB is preferable to me along with whoever the team feels is their guy in the draft. They need to solve the long-term QB situation the old-fashioned way; draft and develop. No to Wentz, no to Garoppolo, no to any trading of high draft picks for other teams undesirable talent.
