Tell the Truth Monday- Dallas Edition

It’s a given that Quinn was plan B. We would have signed him much earlier if he was our first or second choice. But even though he was probably our third or fourth choice, he’s been a great consolation prize.

It astounds me how short our memories are. He has done so much in year one. Compare that to Shanny, Gruden, Rivera, etc.

Yeah, losing sucks, but we expected losses before. We pretended that 6-10 and 5-11 was average.

This is year one with a new OC, DC, GM, QB, etc. This is year one with a make shift roster full of vets who were signed not to win or even compete, but to hold the ground until their replacements emerged or were drafted.

It’s okay to hate the loss, but don’t forget how far we’ve come… even if we still have further to go than we’d prefer.

I have to quibble with the idea that Quinn was Plan B. I don't believe that at all.

John Keim, a guy seriously connected inside the org and not given to being anyone's mouthpiece, has repeatedly reported that Johnson was not Plan A, Quinn was not Plan B, and Peters did not "settle" for Quinn.

They had a process to go through and that is what they did.

I'm worn out (already) with the thought that we got the wrong guy because we are in a 3-game losing streak. Give over already.

This is Year One of what we all recognize is a serious rebuild of everything from culture to talent.

Comparison is the thief of joy and some of you didn't have much joy to begin with. However, if you are hell-bent on comparisons, go look at Year One of Campbell's Lions.

At this point, that team was 0-11-1 and would not win their first game until December. The current Commanders' team had more wins in Quinn's first month as HC than Campbell's team had their whole first season (and he had Stafford under center).

Why did I pick Campbell's Lions? Because Johnson was his OC and some of your seem to be thinking he would have been better here than Quinn.

I don't think it's unfair for people to be extremely disappointed in the team's loss yesterday. The team is performing well beyond my expectations from early in the season. But the Giants with no Prescott are not a hard team. We beat better teams. We scored points against better teams. It was only a setback, but losing to a hobbled team like the Cowboys is the worst kind of setback we can suffer aside from injuries. Which we actually got, if we consider Ekeler and Robinson.

I won't argue Johnson over Quinn. Its doubtful Johnson puts up the same kinda numbers with our offensive roster. But the team clearly wanted him, otherwise they woulda just hired Quinn right away. They waited for Johnson. You don't wait unless he's a guy you really want. But he bombed the interview and then blew off the last interview, so that door effectively closed.

Its worked out though. I don't really have any issues with Quinn's coaching even after yesterday's debacle. It was a loss 100% on the players(well maybe 90%, KK could have been more aggressive in playcalling).

They clearly wanted to talk to him again. That isn't the same as wanting him.

And they had to wait to do even that much.

Remember, they also wanted to talk to Glenn again. Macdonald was also in the running right up to the point he signed with Seattle.

Again, insiders have consistently told Keim (and others) that there was a process and they were committed to that process.

My truth: This team can afford only to drop one more game if it wants to make the playoffs.

Is it necessary to make the playoffs this year? Absolutely not, but to miss them after a 7-2 start will be a significant let down.

The team drafted Jayden Daniels because they believed in him as a quarterback. That means being able to throw the ball. Time to put the trust in him. They should have enough confidence in his abilities, he's shown he can succeed repeatedly when asked to deliver with the game on the line. Time to recreate that outside the fourth quarter, whatever it takes to create the opportunities. If he's let down by lack of talent in the receiving group and on the line, then so be it. But the best quarterbacks in the league still pull out miracles when they're short on talent around them.

The season hangs in the balance. There's nothing to lose at this point in taking greater risks, so long as they keep Daniels safe.

They can drop two more and still have a good chance at the playoffs. Not a sure thing though, but 10-7 would be like a 75% ish chance of a playoff birth. 11-6 would guarantee it assuming one of those wins is Atlanta.

That's my point: 10-7  might get you into the playoffs, but the way this season is shaping up it puts their fate more in the hands of others. If they want to get there, they're best off taking control of their fate.

Playoffs? With this team? 🤣🤣🤣

I think not

The simple truth is not that complicated to discern.

Washington’s special teams had their worst game in several years and there aren’t any glaring injuries or lack of functional ability there, only a failure to execute assignments the way these players have done for the first 9-10 games.

Geez, let’s not build up a 3-5 Dallas team that is starting a third string quarterback.

What is the excuse going to be next week?

Miscues on makeable plays cost this team the win yesterday.

And by makeable I mean makeable by THIS team and roster not one we have two years from now.

Adam Peters botched the HC hire after Ben Johnson shunned the team.

1.)Dan Quinn has no business being an HC. He's picked up where he left off from being the head guy in Atlanta. This is what his teams do
2.)Kliff Kingsbury has no business being an OC at the NFL level. His system works at the college level, that's it. Once the NFL figures out his offense, about half the season, this is what you get. Same thing happened in Arizona. He had Kyler Murray looking all world then didn't.

People learn from their struggles. We are 7-5 with a likely franchise QB on board in year one of a rebuild. Players want to be here. Players who AREN’T here want to be here. And the attitude of the players despite the recent challenges is great. We don’t have our star players mocking the head coach like they did in Dallas last week.

I think this coaching staff over the next couple of seasons is going to make this post look pretty reactive and silly. That’s harsh I know. Kind of like everything you just posted.

I am going to call Quinn (Ron jr) all hype, no result. same old redskins
Coming off a mini bye.. came out flat on both sides. This game was an embarrassment... Loosing to a bad Dallas team. Terrible and ineffective coaching with zero adjustment .. and bad effort for most players.
I am not sure Kliff has the mental capacity to lead this offense and JD is going in the wrong direction.

This is why I’m disappointed in the fanbase. No capacity to absorb short term pain for long term gain. Already wanting to run our coaching staff out of town on a rail. I think that sucks.

It’s not that saying the coaches blew this one is wrong - I’ve said it myself. But using the worst performance of the season to indict the coaches as incompetent or fatally flawed, I’m sorry but that’s just over the top.

If anything, Quinn and company should be getting some level of credit that the team clearly never gives up. On top of that, the clock management at the tail end of that game was about as good as you can possibly get. Defense did what it needed to. Offense didnt. You wonder if B-Rob getting hurt on his first carry changed things.

The offense was very successful when we went back to the tempo style and we let Jayden just be Jayden. Dallas couldn't stop us.

I also wonder how different the game is, if Brown doesn't drop that early 3rd down conversion? Do we go down and score there? If we do, is Dallas' spirit broken? Part of their ability to win that game was simply that they were able to hang around.

100 reasons we lost that game yesterday, and I personally don't think any of them warrant and change in philosophy. Stay the course, trust the process, and grow from it.

How come absolute no discussion about BRob being injured by a text book hip-drop tackle? Was it not because it was in the box?

Yeah, I’m still not sure what a hip drop tackle is, but I heard multiple people talk about how that fit every definition of the rule. It even resulted in an injury. But like pretty much the whole first half, the refs had blinders on for anything Dallas did.

Again, not asking Commanders to beat KC or Detroit, my expectations for this team is that at home they can pull together and beat sub .500 teams like Dallas and Tennessee.

No one should be ashamed of setting some reasonable expectations.

It’s not enough to say well it’s a rebuilding year yada yada.

The truth is these teams we are playing now are also in either rebuild mode (Titans) or having down years due to critical injuries (Dallas).

Why did I think we would beat Dallas? Because they lost 5 in a row and hadn’t produced any real momentum in weeks.

It took Washington miscues to make them believe they had a chance to finally win a game.

Just because this team is not a finished product doesn’t mean we should not look to see the same prep and execution against these sub .500 teams as we saw in September and October against clubs with a similar profile.

If we can hang in and beat Kyler Murray and Joe Burrow we shouldn’t be vomiting up our lunch against the likes of Cooper Rush or Will Levis.

If that is viewed as being too hard on the players I think some folks need to reassess how you develop a winning culture and how after the Snyder years people may be feeling too self-satisfied with that change to do more than smile and dream about 2026.

I agree with Brian Mitchell. If you are going to suit up and play you might as well come out and put forth a 100% focused effort and make teams perform at high level to beat you.

We didn’t do that against Dallas.

This is the first loss that really got to me. Residing in Texas doesn’t help on that front, but still, I don’t think it was the loss itself.
What really got me was our offense looking mostly inept for 3 quarters. I didn’t expect us to blow the doors off the Cowboys, I just thought we’d look generally look more like we did earlier in the season offensively. The fact we didn’t felt like confirmation that this is a write off year, and indicated just how much we need to improve in the offseason.

Siinnott and McCaffrey look like late round picks and guys that were overdrafted.

Taking receivers in Rounds 2 and 3 I expected ONE of them to step up and have a solid first season and grow with Daniels.

We didn’t get that and it’s an eyesore for everyone to see.

The other major concern is durability. Can Brian Robinson, Brandon Coleman, Johnny Newton and others shake off a host of injuries and missed time in 2024 and become dependable performers week to week in 2025?
