Team name...Post it all here

100% agree. No worries about “beating the topic to death.” I intend to fully beat the topic senseless until I know it’s settled. :sneaky:

Also, I think it was definitely the fans that wanted to keep “Football Team” for the reasons I mentioned. The only message the team sent at the time was we have no idea what to do so we are “Football Team” for now. Some of the fans took it as a way of telling everyone off. I don’t think the team ever saw it that way. Even Snyder knew it was a non-starter.

Oh I always assumed it was a temporary name until they got their shit together. But again I was amazed at how many people actually liked it and wanted to keep it.
 
I would prefer Washington Football Club (not team) over the current name. Generic? Yeah. Sounds like the Premier League? I get it. But I have no problem with Washington being the brand. It’s already that for me now outside of still using Redskins.
 
I'm indifferent to Football Team and don't like Commanders. However, if the goal is to rid the stench of Snyder, why go back to Football Team?

Dear Lord no. It's the same issue, this is not a name. This is an NFL team, not the USFL or some other minor league. We should not appear as if we are trying to emulate another league in any way, shape or form.

For me the ideal way to end this forever is to pick the best name possible. I think the large majority of fans would get behind one of these…

Warriors, Wolves, Redwolves, or even Sentinels. If they could somehow work it out to get one of those the debate is over. Only the most stubborn Redskins purists would continue to hold out at that point. I think even if you don’t like it at first you will definitely come around to it in time.

I’m not in the crowd of “anything is better than Commanders.” Anything most definitely isn’t better. Yes, we could absolutely do worse than Commanders even if Snyder did pick that name. As much as I disliked Snyder as an owner that is not enough to get me to want to change it to literally anything else. Honestly, Commanders isn’t even the worst name in D.C. sports. Wizards gets that distinction IMO.
 
Also, one thing that always bugged me with the trademark argument is that we are talking about an NFL team in the Nation’s Capital. The NFL can practically print money. I don’t really believe that trademarks are an impassable roadblock other than just something else that would have to be worked out for the right price. I believe any name they really want could be bought from whoever owns the trademark if they are willing to do it. Some kind of deal could certainly be cut. The trademark squatter guy in Virginia I’m sure has a price.

Agree with almost all of this. But I don’t think we could do worse than commanders, or at least I don’t think we would do worse. Yes, there are worse names I suppose, but I’m confident our new ownership group is smart enough not to pick one of them. The names you listed would work. They would not be loved by all, but any of them would be much more popular than commanders. Wizards I agree is epically bad but that’s irrelevant to me.

If it can't go back, I'm WFT.

Maintained it on ES, and I'll remain that opinion here. As long as the colors remain, I won't need to change my wardrobe.

Yes, exactly. It's true. Anything is not better than Commanders, but anything they would actually pick, most likely would be. And, if we can do better, why wouldn't we ?

They're not going to change to Defenders, or Brigade or Admirals or anything like that. Those names are too simular to Commanders, and would be met with the same cold reaction.

I'm confident any name, they would actually choose, would be better than what we currently have.

But, maybe I'll still be disappointed.
We'll see.

What I’m really saying in the end is that if it’s not one of those four that I’ve listed above, I see no reason to change the name again. There is no other name I can think of that would unify the fanbase and largely end the debate other than one of those four.

If it we cant be Wolves, Redwolves, Warriors, or even Sentinels we may as well stay Commanders and learn to live with it. I will even add Wolfpack to that or any other Wolf variation that can be obtained. Those names were the clear fan favorites.
 
I'm all but certain we won't be any of those bottom four. I'd love to see the preferences of those 42 %. Yes, I know a certain percentage of them want Redskins, so I'd like to see the breakdown of that 42% if given more choices and forced to pick one.
