Team name...Post it all here

Yes, that does come back to me now. I remember him talking about it being too vague to trademark.

Redwolves, or Wolves are my picks. Warriors sound kinda corny. Plus all the wolf tie ins would be awesome.

Maybe I'm old but this is my first thought when I hear Warriors.

We were burgundy and gold before Snyder got here and we will be burgundy and gold long after he is gone. I saw them play in 4 Super Bowls wearing those colors.

I think the easiest fix all along would’ve been to go with the Burgundy and Gold (short version BnG)

As the team name? I thought we were done with weird names such as Football Team. That was so lame and I was shocked people got on board with it.

I don’t know how those two are comparable in any way? My point would be that we already call ourselves the Burgundy and Gold. I get it would be different from ‘City+Mascot’

It's been our colloquial and alternative name for as long as I can remember and I've always thought this was the best option.
Art Monk, Riggins. McLaurin, Daniels, ...
They didn't all or always play for the Redskins.
All of them weren't Commanders.
But, all of them played for the Burgundy and Gold.

It would take getting used to, but it’s a hell of a lot better than the ‘C’ word

Agreed and since Harris has mentioned "easy fixes," even if they don't fully rebrand, my expectation is that they go fully back to a classic look in the meantime. Hopefully we get at least that much for next season.

I doubt that they would do anything that big as an intermediate step. If they are even considering a name change at some point in the next 2-3 years, then they shouldn't waste a uniform change now. They won't be able to go all-in on what the new brand would be, so they might as well coordinate the two events.

Now, if a name change isn't happening, then I guess go ahead and correct the uniforms as best as you can ASAP.

So the trademark conflict is with a school? I thought it was the Minnesota Timberwolves. Isn't there a college team that goes by, or went by, Redskins? How does that work?

Sorry missed this along the way. I’m no lawyer, but I think the way he explained it in layman’s terms is that trying to use a name like Washington Wolves would be difficult to trademark, because so many trademarks already exist with the word “wolves” therein. The Redwolves trademark that already exists for example, and the several college and pro teams that use a “wolf” of some type to include the Timberwolves, His point was largely it would be very difficult if not impossible to pacify all those trademark holders if we went with Wolves. He actually stated it would be easier to get Redwolves than Wolves because a mutual use agreement could be struck with Arkansas State…assuming they would even be willing to make such an agreement. As I posted already they strongly defend their trademark.

What I have learned is that high schools or other small “pro teams” don’t usually cause a concern for trademark holders. They don’t really pose a financial threat. For instance a high school team called the Warriors wouldn’t pose a financial threat or cause “market confusion” to an NBA team. Now an NFL team that calls themselves Warriors. They absolutely would because every google search for Warriors would reveal for instance Washington Warriors and Golden State Warriors on the first page. I know this all seems ridiculous to us that follow sports and would have no trouble distinguishing it, but this is quite often how they make their arguments for their trademarks.

I think we discussed this earlier in the thread, but the reason people liked “Football Team” is because it’s “Redskins” in absentia.

In the end “Football Team” amounts to a not so subtle “fuck you” to the establishment for forcing us to change our name. While I absolutely understand that sentiment, and largely agree with it…“Football Team” was not and could not ever REALLY be a serious contender for the forever name. Football Team is not a name, it’s a thing, and it’s definitely not a brand.

The truth is Snyder (of course) had no back-up plan in case he had to change the name, and that is why we had to have no name for 2 years while they found the easiest way out possible. Commanders.

Great point. I could definitely get on board with “the burgundy and gold“. I call them that quite often anyway. It’s either that or the skins when someone asks me who my team is. What I will not say is the C name. I hate the awkwardness of it all, but I don’t want to show even the slightest bit of acceptance for that name. I know the owners don’t give a crap what I think, but I just don’t want to give them any reason to think fans may eventually just get used to it. If At some point they announce they are not changing the name, I will do my best to cope. But it’s always going to remind me of the pain Snyder put us through and I’d rather move on from that if possible.

I didn't see it as any message from the team to the establishment. They were forced to change the name and as you said they didn't have a contingency plan. As you also said Football Team is not a name, it's as if Ford got all excited about their new model and decided to name it Car. It was a stupid idea from a stupid owner who was caught unprepared.

Yet so so many fans liked it or learned to like it. Said it was simple and classic or some such nonsense. Kevin Sheehan, who I usually agree with, was in this crowd. I will never understand it but if it's already been beaten to death I should probably stop here.

I was always surprised that Washington Football Team was never shortened to Teamsters.

I generally say "Washington" when I mention my team, but as they continue to win I've started mixing in Commanders. I have a sweatshirt, want to support new ownership, and probably will get a hat.
