Team name...Post it all here

(new guy to the forum from ES here)
I do not like the Commanders name, but I agree with others that think it may stick with us winning. My preference would be RedWolves. It was always a lame excuse that we couldn't use RedWolves because other teams have "Wolves" in their name or trademarks. There are multiple teams in different leagues with the same name.

Welcome to BGO!

The Name Nuts on X that would rather lose as "Redskins" than win as "Commanders" make my eye twitch.

I guess for them it just doesn’t feel the same, so they can’t enjoy the success of the team. I get that loyalty to the former brand, but if I thought I truly couldn’t live with the change I would just consider my team gone, (like the Baltimore Colts leaving Baltimore in’83) and just find a new team to root for. We all had to deal with this in our own way. Redskins will not come back and in my opinion (only my opinion) people would do well to accept that, but the organization could pick a better name if they wish. Until they release if ever a definite statement on the brand one way or the other these conversations will continue, and from a business standpoint it’s probably not wise to do so. The market will tell them if the brand works or not by how much merchandise is being sold, and at the end this is mostly about dollars and cents.

One thing that has me confused.... What does a taco holder have to do with being Commies? I just don't get the symbolism of the logo.

I think it’s meant to represent like a military style font, which I know some people don’t care for.

Im one of those people. Just really don't like the logo or the name. When I say the word "Commanders" it catches in my throat and I still cringe a little. The only negative IMO about the success we are having this year is that a rebranding is even less likely than it was. I don't kid myself thinking the team can ever go back to Redskins I just wish they would change it to something else. Almost anything else. Warriors, Warthogs or even Redwolves which I didn't like much either. Commanders with the "W" logo mixed with the new "Raise Hell" written in some sort of gothic/medieval font mixed with Tuddy/Hogs mixed with some military symbolism all seems confusing and clumsy. It doesn't seem well organized, clear or most importantly inspiring. It is also and will always be tied to Dan Snyder.

I have a couple shirts with WFT and maybe one that says commanders (My wife probably bought it). Then I have countless hats/shirts with the good ole Logo and "Redskins" on it. Im such a diehard for what was that ive recently bought hats/shirts and even an infant outfit (I recently became a grandpa) off eBay that has the old logo etc. perhaps Im just stubborn and stuck in my ways and need to move on.

It’s got to be Warriors. Could you imagine the entire stadium doing this?!

this was always my first choice. The argument Jason Wright made was we can’t be Warriors because it was too close to what came before.

I say we can be Warriors now because we would be going to it from Commanders.

I could support that. I want a connection to our native Americans. 1/8 Cherokee here ;)

I think if they do change the name, and even if they don't, they will avoid any native American imagery/associations. They just don't want the drama regardless of how ridiculous the basis for objections might be. I mean, there was an outcry that 'Wolves' and 'Warriors' could never be used because they had native 'associations'. It's dumb, and I'm sure the Harris group thinks it's dumb, but they still probably would prefer to avoid controversy/distraction having left all that behind for the most part.

I prefer ties to our legacy, even if a slight nuance. Remember that they grew up Redskins fans as well.

I'm hanging my hat on that fact. I think there might've been a compromise available before Snyder caved where if they'd gone with something like 'Potomacs' and really made it about honoring them, they could have kept the rest of the imagery. The whole outrage about using groups as mascots I think is mostly viewed as an overreaction. It's really hard to be offended by something that's done in remembrance or in honor... Anyway, water under the bridge. I think Snyder was trying to survive some pretty rough ownership waters ahead when he caved and would've done anything the NFL asked in hopes of not being forced out. In the end, even that wasn't enough.

I still say Werewolves.

Howl for the Werewolves
Howl victory
Predators of the moon-path
Fight for old DC

Admit it, you'd love to hear the whole stadium screaming "Arooooo!"

Plus, the Washington Werewolves has that cool alliteration thing going for it and no other team is sporting werewolves whereas a hundred teams call themselves Warriors or some kind of wolf.

I just buy Redskins stuff on ebay. I guess the team doesn't want to sell things to all of their fans.

Are there any plans for a protest outside the stadium about the name and cancellation of Extremeskins? This isn't right.

I hated Commanders at first but now that the team is good I honestly don't really care. "Commies" is a funny nickname for a team in the nation's capital and the W logo has grown on me. If Harris does want to change it, though, he ought to do it this offseason because once this team really takes off a whole new generation of fans will know them as Commanders and - excuse the pun - the ship will have sailed.
