McD5 is just excitable that's all. I know we hate Shanahan, but he did win us a division. That may mean nothing to everyone else here, but I enjoyed the hell out of that season, and it didn't just happen by accident. He also had a hell of a lot of success with Denver. And yeah, I know about John Elway
I think the era of control freak 'my way or the highway' coaches has passed. Shanahan's style of coaching just isn't a good fit for modern NFL clubs anymore. Joe Gibbs was a frigging saint and he failed to have the success he had in his first tenure. Shanahan surely didn't. But worst coach? He's not even in the top 5 of worst Redskins coaches.
I like this response, but I believe when you really step back and take a look, it's not even a question about who was worse. I'm about to go out for dinner, but here's a shortened version.
Shanahan had a lot of experience, with SBs to his name.
Zorn had virtually no experience. Neither as a HC, nor as even an OC with a playbook.
They had nearly identical, if not identical records.
Now sorry, but if the guy off the street walks in and does as good as the guy with 20 years of experience, I'm giving the new guy the nod.
In addition, Shanahan oversaw the single worst ST in the history of the league. Not Zorn.
Shanahan had 3 WR coaches in four years, and guys like Bob S. He didn't know what a good coordinator looked like. Not Zorn.
Shanny risked three first rounders. Not Zorn.
And to add insult to injury? He leaked ugly info before games on Sunday morning about our team. Over and over.
Sorry, I just don't see how a case can be made for him. Zorn was less qualified, and a terrible hire. But Shanahan did more damage.
