Random Thoughts

It's hot down there and Latinos love meat. Not sure if that would appeal to all. I'm talking homemade smokers and grills. Real basic set up. Think almost roadside NC pit BBQ. Basic setting and costs to the business

Sample menu...All wood grilled and smoked. 11 to 7 or sold out

Tu/Wed/Th
Grilled BBQ Half Chickens
Smoked Pork (shoulder) sandwiches
Smoked Pork Ribs, 1/2 and whole
House Beans and Rice
Fried Plátanos
Cole Slaw
Potato Saĺad

Fri/Sat
Add Pit Beef Sandwiches

I could squeeze tacos in there easily. Taco Tuesdays and Thursdays?

Keep it simple and cheap. Easily produced

CNN — Finland once again tops the World Happiness Report’s rankings.

The world’s happiest country has managed to keep its No. 1 ranking for eight years running. 🤣

I actually think this is a great idea, as long as you keep your costs down to limit your exposure. Will getting the right meat by an issue in the DR?

Or you could set up a crab truck and sell crabs for $200/dozen to impoverished people who have no idea what to do with a Bay crab

I fully agree about costs vs sales price. I would have to investigate sourcing but shouldn't be a problem, the cuts are common - pork shoulder, pork ribs and upper/lower beef rounds.

Definitely want to attract all walks of life. Location will be critical. Definitely want foot traffic as well as some room for parking. I found a real American BBQ in Bogota which was amazing and it was only for people that could afford it.

I forgot to add corn bread to that basic menu. I make a bad ass corn bread that is drenched in butter and honey. But that means I need an oven.

No to the crab truck! But fish is plentiful and cheap down there.

Does it ever seem to anyone else that you can't ever have all facets of your life go right at the same time? Work is going well, taking our vacation on Monday, but my brother and I are in the middle of a huge fight and it's eating me up.

I suppose it would be too boring if EVERYTHING was clicking on all cylindars.
I was telling my brother life has taught me not to get too high and always have a governer on my emotions. A year and a half ago I was as happy as I could hope to be having recently retired. Then the doctor told me I had cancer. Such is life, I got through it but remain cautious about getting too high or too low.

Glad you got through it brother, but yes, unfortunately most of us will discover, life can throw some major curveballs at us!

Rabbit ears with foil over the ends for me. And fixing the picture generally only required a smack to the side of the tv.

Upstairs black and white had coathanger after the built in antenna broke. The one on the main set had rabbit ears with this little dial, you turned it and it changed the signal until you got a clear picture. I grew up in Bethesda so a signal was strong. But we like the Bob McCallister Show, before Wonderama, and it was only on out of Baltimore. That was a snowy picture but we got it.

Did you go to Whitman?

I don't think we had a rooftop antenna. I guess we were close enough to DC that we didn't need one. I remember we had an old 13" portable black & white Sears TV. The larger TV downstairs couldn't get a signal from Baltimore, but I was able to get a signal with that little Sears job if I put it in my sisters bedroom on her bed. It had a single rabbit ear. I was able to watch the Washington vs Green Bay playoff game in 1972 that way. Extremely fuzzy picture. Barely watchable. But I watched it that way, while listening to WMAL AM 630.

WJ Class of '77.

I'm still bitter I missed those playoff games in '72, the same reason I missed Hurricane Agnus. We were visiting our dad who was living in Malaysia both times. So the GB game was blacked out? I never knew that but I am aware that George Allen started 5 defensive lineman to take away John Brockington. The Dallas game was on tv in DC right?

Nope! President Nixon was pissed!

You don't remember Charley Grainger, do you? He went to WJ about that time. African American. Played rugby.

Edit: Actually, he might have gone to Churchill.

My parents split when I was 5, my mom took her life when I was 18 and a whole lot of shit happened in between. I'm not afraid to post such information, I did nothing wrong and it was so long ago. I was too young to really process what had happened, I don't remember feeling sorry for myself. As I got older I learned everyone goes through tough times. Mine just happened when I was 18. After I met my wife in my 20's life was great, I never had a messy divorce or lost a sister to breast cancer. We all have to deal with stuff and we don't know when they will happen. It's just life.

My first time visiting this random thought thread. It looks like we have a few that appreciate astronomy. Here is a video I captured of a Strawberry full moon last year. The scope is a 180mm SkyWatcher Maksutov. It was shot on a wooden deck which is why there is some wobble in it.

The camera used is a ZWO ASI385MC and the software is SharpCap.

Ashburn is a Bortle 7 sky, so I'm limited mostly to solar system stuff like planets and the moon. If we move to a darker site then I can capture DSO's (deep space objects) like galaxies.
