I work for a 23 billion dollar global company and my job is 100% remote. There really would be no difference and I can travel globally from Santo Domingo without a problem. My clients are global but I rarely travel. It's all emails and con calls

I think that there have been studies that shows remote work actually increases productivity, Personally, I think there is a balance. There are times when it's absolutely great to poke your head around the corner and get that immediate answer or give hands on help. I find working remotely helps simply because the clock doesn't control my day and there are fewer interuptions and meetings. If the goal is getting shit done and not "punching in and punching out" then remote works just fine.
 
I’m at a large corporation and they have forced us into the office 4 days a week. We were all remote for 2 years before even having an option to go in. Then it was optional for a year longer before the mandate. I can do my job 100% from any location with internet. I don’t mind becuase I would rather go into the office and leave work at work and have home be home. I also only live about 7 miles from work. So that style works for me. But others I work with, some are in major metropolitan areas with bad traffic and long commutes. Others in more rural and smaller cities live in the country and 25 miles from the office. The fact they are forced to go in and don’t have a choice that fits their lifestyle and work style bugs me. Our team is not even in the same location. 4 people in one city, 4 in another city, and 3 of us are in cities where none of our teammates work. I’m surrounded by people from other teams, which I don’t mind because it fits me to be there. But my teammates in other cities with longer commutes and no teammates to even bond with, it’s just such a bad decision for a corporation to force people into bad work styles. It’s such a step backwards in my opinion.
 
I worked from home the last few years of my career. Anyone who says they don't play with dog or go to Walmart while working from home is lying. I loved it because I was winding down, but I never would have wanted to do is long term. I missed co-workers, not only bouncing ideas but discussing the football game type of ineraction.
 
I would venture that those who work remotely don’t spend any more time on ‘activities’ outside of what they are being paid to do than those working in-person.

This site, as a small example, is much more active during traditional working hours and days than during nights and weekends. And that is not a new phenomenon.

I posted on message boards equally in the office or at home. I was lucky, they didn't monitor us or if they did they didn't really care I guess. In addition to message boarding I also did the above activities while working from home, things I never did in the office. I'm sure I'm not alone.

Exactly. One of my coworkers when he is away from his computer but in the office says he is “collaborating” about hunting and yard work and whatever else they talked about that day. It’s just a different way of doing it when you are in the office. But it is easier to do some things when you are at home and no one sees you. Of course I’m currently in the office and eating lunch while “collaborating” on here about work styles.
 
I have been working remotely for almost 20 years. I'm extremely efficient and get things done. I am on conference calls from all over the world. I do not have a 9:00 to 5:00 job but nor do I get 9 to 5 pay. I do travel sometimes, mostly domestic
 
Oh boy do I feel my age (66) today. I dropped a tree, now it was a big tree but nothing I have not handled before. 2 chansaws going I cut out the branches and dragged them to the burn pile, then proceeded to cut up the rest for firewood. I'm absolutely exhausted and never really did reach the end. The last 8 feet or so, the biggest part by the trunk, remains on the ground but out of the field and in the wooded area where it will remain for the rest of time. Well my time anyway.

There's actually more to the story. Before I dropped the tree I had to burn the burn pile to make room for more branches. I went down with a pole saw just to trim branches but the battery died. So I decided to burn the burn pile in a spur of the moment decision. It was windy and I knew this was probably a risk but I had a fire extinguisher and water and really wanted to burn the pile. Bad idea, wind was blowing smoke right toward the trees that seperate my property from my neighbors.

I didn't want to use the fire extinguisher because the wood would then be coated and never burn. Ambers never were a problem and I kept an eagle eye for any spread. I finally put it out and as I was headed to the house for more water the fire department showed, the neighbor had called. Seems burning was not allowed on that day. I was lucky that nothing happened and they were satisfied the fire was out as they saw me with the extinguisher and empty pitcher. But I should have never done that.
 
I get to preview Epic Universe tomorrow before it opens to the public, they don't allow cell phones in to avoid pictures being leaked (smart thinking on Universals part) it is definitely more a kid centered amusement park but hell given the chance you can't turn it down and the weather here is fantastic for a day of overpriced concessions and rides.
 
Still bummed. Thinking about taking it ($) all to the DR, buying a place by the beach and starting a simple (non tech) business.

MD Pit Beef? American BBQ? Real tacos? Hell I don't know. They really don't have that down there and locals as well as expats would really dig it. Keep it real, fresh and simple. Need to find someone to run it which is the real challenge. As well as a good welder. Open from 11 to 7/sold out, or something like that
