Random NFL Thoughts

How in the heck does Antonio Gates get subbed by the HOF?

Paramount+ streaming of the SB is no better than the free streams someone I know uses during the regular season. 👎

Not going to dwell on it, but every time they cut away to Taylor Swift yesterday I thought, "That looks like someone totally into the game. That looks like a fan. That looks like me." I felt no Look-at-me-look-at-me vibes at all.

I think the cynicism surrounding this is a shame.

Agreed, burgold.

The anger and hate directed at Taylor has been crazy, IMHO. She didn't come looking for this. She doesn't direct the cameras or the broadcast commentary.

In fact, if I were to wager on it, I'd say she dislikes it as much or more than anyone else. I can't imagine the pressure of knowing there is a camera watching every second of every game and needing to temper my reactions accordingly.

For all its faults, the NFL is a marketing genius. They know what sells and what doesn’t. They know that showing Swift generates a ton of attention for the league. And the net of it is that is a lot more fans watching the game. The people that don't like it are already fans of the game and aren’t going anywhere. I would doubt anyone didn’t watch the game because they showed Taylor Swift, but there are a ton who watched it specifically for that reason.

For me as a fan, it’s too much. I don’t care to see celebrities at the games. I’m there to watch the game. I don’t watch pregame shows, pregame entertainment, halftime shows, and I don’t even care to see the commercials. I rolled my eyes when they went through the crowd at one point showing all the celebrities there. The reality is those people being there are the reason regular fans like us can’t go to the game. It’s now a status symbol to be at the game and be seen at the game, making it no different than a Hollywood party. When Kyle Juszczyk got the ball, you could barely hear the fans calling his name. You normally hear a louder response than that when they are on the road. It’s because there are so few actual fans of the team that get to go to the Super Bowl and that’s the shame of it.

In Swift’s case, she’s not even there for that reason this year. The people saying anything about her other than in a joking manner are just ridiculous. Lots of good jokes to be had like the one at the Grammys. But people who are legit mad at her are just dumb. The media knows they won’t get the heat for the over the top coverage either, so it’s a win-win for them.

I doubt there are more than a handful of NFL fans who have an actual problem with Taylor Swift, they are just sick of the attention she garners. The whole outrage about people having a problem with her is a big red herring. It's no different than seeing a lame commercial for the 50th time - it's annoying.

I noticed, btw, there was no cut to Taylor Swift when her boyfriend was making an absolute ass of himself in front of millions of viewers.

He's just another reason I can't stand the Chiefs.

The Kelce bump of Reid is a topic I want to explore. What do people think about what Kelce did to Reid?

In my opinion, it showed he has no respect for Reid. If Reid had any balls, he would have benched Kelce for a good length of time, if not the whole game. But instead he let Kelce emasculate him in front of the whole world. And to me, it was the bump that was the issue. Yes, the yelling and screaming was inappropriate as well, but the bump is what should have had him sitting for the duration of the game. But Reid wasn’t going to do that and he was going to do what helped him win.

What happens if Red falls there? He’s old and quite rotund, so a fall is not out of the question. He could have hit his head, broken his hip, arm, wrist, pretty much anything. It was just such a bad incident and made worse by there being zero consequences.

100% agree. Should’ve been sat down. And he’s getting more or less a free pass for what should be viewed as outrageous behavior.

I think he should have been sat down as well - at least for the 3rd quarter. And as for Taylor I don't get it . Im pretty conservative politically but I think the people attacking her are fools. It's not her fault everything is political these days and we as a society can't disagree with someone and still get along. Sports used to be that part of the world were politics didn't matter....

The quote is obviously fake. He’s a Rams fan obsessed with the 49ers.

So I've been scratching my head around this love for Wilks. I know a lot of people on this board were calling for him to be hired as the head coach. I just never got that. The guy failed miserably in Arizona and then to his credit, he did a good job as interim coach with the Panthers. If I remember correctly, there was a problem with him in SF this year. I think he moved from the booth to the field to help fix the defense. That's normally a sign of trouble. Now he's fired from the 49ers, and while I don't think that is the right decision, their defense faltered in the playoffs. So while this is surprising, I'm also not shocked by it.

I think a lot of has to do with the Panthers and the sense that he was robbed of the role he earned. Panthers should have done what Raiders did with Antonio Pierce. Clearly, their plan A wasn't any better since that guy has already been fired.
